Epic Must Stay Exclusive For Xbox360 To Win This Generation Backlash Episode 3

Epic Games seems to be the true company still loyal to the Xbox Brand, and with the new arrival of Gears 3 early next year Microsoft may have to dig even deeper into their pockets to keep Epic on board as well.

Microsoft in the battle of HD Consoles still have the lead but that lead is fading fast, with the lost of bungie exclusivity the HALO brand at this point could be in jeporady which isn’t good at all.

The Gears franchise is Microsofts bread and butter but will gears still be an exclusive considering Microsoft doesn’t own that IP?

Well, I agree that it's a discussion, deep down, and it'd be wrong to call a discussion "Fake". However, HHG tries to pass off his opinions as facts, without anything to back it up. He uses Bungie going multiplatform as a basis for thinking Gears 3 is all MS has to fall back on. Why not Fable 3 or Crackdown 2? He may be trying to open a discussion but pronounces verdicts - flop sided verdicts, at that - on one too many issues. A discussion should be an exchange of ideas - and feature more than just one person standing in front of the screen, jabbering away to glory.

Also, his whole stance on Bungie is complete and utter misinformation. I still don't understand his reasoning for the Halo brand being in trouble. Did MS really lose Bungie? They never had Bungie to begin with - and Bungie's deal with Activision has nothing to do with them not working on any more Halo titles (for the next 10 years, at least). It's simply that they've gotten tired of it, and rightly so, since they've spent the better part of the last decade on it.

I wouldn't call fake on a discussion but when it's propaganda like this, there will always be many "opinions" and "thoughts" that can be defeated with real world facts.

Um no they don't. Epic Clearly stated they own Gears and they can do whatever they want with it. Microsoft has no say in where GEOW is going whether its Pc Ps3 or the 360. That decision is up to epic not microsoft. And not all Ps3 owners hate gears I like the the gears of wars series. Played it before its a fun game.

Honestly though I don't believe any PS3 owner will buy a 360 for a bunch of time DLC which we will get eventually. Sony sold over 120mil Ps2 while xbox only had 20mil. So of course sony had 3rd party exclusive there was no reason to go the the xbox when you had a console with over 120mil units worldwide. It's true what you said bro, but in reality there is nothing wrong with MS depending on third party developers this generation. Sony did it with the PS2, so it's really not that big of a deal. The only difference between the PS2 and Xbox 360 is that Sony starting picking up first party studios during the PS2 era. MS on the other hand would rather pay these third party developers huge amounts of cash for "timed exclusive" DLC.

(Cause there are PS3 only owners that will happily buy it if it goes multi, and there are 360 only owners who won't especially after the fiasco with Gears 2's online regardless) I still think Gears 3 will stay exclusive as it's type of game suits the 360 so well. E3 will be interesting and hopefully they will have more than Reach (2010) and Gears 3 (2011) because MS's strategy of one or two exclusives a year hasn't been doing much service to them outside of the US...

Gears will probably keep first party gears is the flag ship title for the unreal engine. So keeping it to one platform will show the potential unreal engine has.

And of course going multiplat means they won't have microsoft marketing resources.
That means that epic has to sign a partnership deal with Ea or some other publishers.

Epic will have made 3 360 exclusives by the time Gears 3 comes out and they will have made a couple of multi plat games also.

Gears won't show up on Playstation, I'd be very very surprised if that EVER happened.

It did make me wonder if Gears 3 was coming to PS3 when it was revealed on Jimmy Fallon's show instead of at Microsoft's E3 presser. I thought maybe Epic had to reveal it themselves because MS was mad about them bringing it multi-plat, but then i realized that Sony would have snatched Gears 3 as one of THEIR E3 presser announcements if they could have. Great if it does happen, but I'm not expecting it.

I actually blame Epic for some of the issues with this gen. UE3 being generally adopted when it had problems.

The main thing was MS launching the 360 sooner than they should have. his whole gen probably should have happened two years later than it did.

For starters, Epic's deal with Microsoft covered 3 games (See I told you Gears 3 is exclusive!) Not so fast deathrow! So far 3 games have been made for 360 from Epic, Gears of War, Gears of War 2 and..... Shadow Complex. So the decision to put Gears 3 on PS3 is quite possible. Also since Epic owns the IP, they can easily find another publisher and do a "Sigma" for the PS3.

Now with Mass Effect 2, the chances of it being on PS3 is to high. EA is a multiplatform publisher, Mass Effect 2 is most likely timed exclusive. To much rumors, to much evidence, to much of bioware devs trying to stay quiet by just saying its exclusive. People like Crapgamer claim you need a ME save file to play, no you don't. You can create a new sheppard and your good. Your experience won't be the same but its still playable.

For these multiplatform companies to ignore such a install base, I don't know. Maybe they are exclusive and mayeb they're not. I really don't think Microsoft needs Gears 3 to win this gen, because, Gears 3 aint so big to destroy the other consoles, not even Halo is. Because its like, if Microsoft has Gears 3, Sony has Uncharted 3.

Frankly, keep Gears on the 360. After playing Uncharted, Gears is too much of a step down in every respect - gameplay, graphics, storytelling, and UC2 is not even as glitchy and laggy despite using similar P2P. Besides, Gears 3 will be the same as Gears 2, UC3 will be miles ahead of UC2.

after their 3 game deal with microsoft ends. Their games have had huge development costs, and were advertised to hell in Japan, and still had terrible sales (In Japan).

They'll most likely go PS3/360, or just move to the Wii to compensate for their weak sales.
