Sony Releases Castlevania: SOTN on US PSN Store

Sony has released one of the original Playstation's best titles, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the US Playstation Store. The title is priced at $9.99 and can also be played on the Playstation 3 with upscaling. Sony also release d a batch of new game and movie trailers as well.

great update to the store, but i can't help but wish there was a firmware update today. Also the Australian and UK stores got the darkness so i just signed up and got them so I'm happy. Hopefully next week 1.9 comes though.

You might want to save $10 by waiting for the redesigned Dracula X coming for the PSP (the exact Symphony copy is included in the game), unless you're really dying (pun not intended) to get some vampire whippin'.

Difference is since there's not a limit on filesize on the PSN and this is a regular PSX ISO, there are none of the graphical and audio anomalies/absences that the 360 version has.

Not that I wouldn't play it anyway, but this is the purest version.

bottom line, Symphony of the Night is one of the best video games ever made, and rocks on *WHATEVER system you happen to play it on, whether it's the PS1 back in the day, the X Box Live Arcade, or on your PSP and PS3.

hopefully this game will sell well on the PSN also, and prompt Iga to think about making an original 2D Castlevania as a downloadable title (whether on XBLA or PSN, ideally *BOTH).

Wow, releasing such big and important game without warning? XBLA made one heck of a buzz about Symphony coming to marketplace, why isn't Sony doing the same? This is one of the best games of all time and deserves a lot more attention.

in a way its good to be humble about your releases, since it keeps ps3 owners coming back to the store every week. on the other hand, it would be good to at least get a heads up before the week of so you know what to expect.

IMHO i think sony doesnt announce psn releases because they arent 100% sure if and when they will be able to get them up on the store. no one wants the kind of flack that comes about when a game is delayed.

I have never played castlevania but I just bought symphony but I got an error when i tried to download it. Did anyone else have this problem?

Just check in the Download list now and when you download it should download and install fine.

Great game for the time. Even a great OST. My favorite track "young nobleman of sadness". For those that have never played this game get it now, you'll like it. The last Castlevania I played was the 3-D one "curse of darkness" for the original Xbox, it also had a good OST.

i still have mixed feelings about 3-D Castlevania's ever since the (N64 debacle).

I never did get to use "RICHTER", I think I still have my gamesave on a PS card somewhere.

After playing this game and having the castle flip upside down with new monsters and such was great. I believe this game should come back as a 2-D game with 3-D backgrounds, similar to "viewtful joe" for the cube. Imagine how gargantuous the "castle" can be, and how much they could pack, and probably make this a 60 Hrs game easily like other RPG's.

Just like Final Fantasy VII, this is a must play.

LOL!! You make it sound like Sony fans have yet to enjoy it, considering it first came out for the PS1!! Well, actually that's mostly true for "original", older PS fans. Anyway, like the guy above me, it's a good thing you enjoyed it on the XBLA; it's proof that the classics are still fun to play.

The only reason I would download this is to play it on my PSP... I have a lot of PS games because I don't get rid of them cause I always like to play them again. Yes I have all the FF games too. There are a ton that I would like to see be available to put onto my PSP and FFVII would be great and I would spend the money on that for sure.

This game brings me back memories of my old high school days. The soundtrack, especially the chapel theme, make the perfect Halloween music. Speaking of the chapel, the part with the 'confessional booth' was surprisingly the freakiest part of the game for me!!

Man, i would get this on the ps3 just so i could play it on my psp.... if i didn't beat this game twice on the PS1 and then once again on my PC emulator.... great game though, best castlevania of all time and one of the best games of all time.
