Why is there a constant urge on this site to label a game GOTY? Every gamer has their OWN GOTY based on what they play and what they personally prefer. I won't be buying RDR this year, so for it to be MY game of the year would be impossible.

lol Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one.

*que the haters

Still think Mass Effect 2 is the front runner of Game of the Year. It's been the best game we've had this year. My short list right now are Mass Effect 2, God of War 3, Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Maybe, maybe Super Street Fighter IV just because of how well it has been reviewed.

Who cares what gets labeled GOTY anymore? Review sites give every functional game an 8-10/10 these days anyway.

Very true

My personal GOTY of 2009 was Assassins Creed II, of 2008 Fable II

Red does have a pretty good SP going for it MP is horrible (good when it works) But other than that I cant shake the feeling that its just GTA all over again just with horses. This doesnt mean its bad just not all that original. How quickly we forget.

Heavy Rain on the other hand at least IMO will be game of the year. I cant think of very many flaws other than a few plot holes in the story. Stellar game and original concept and new genre.

I feel so duped with RDR. I expect the reviewers with glowing reviews to at least mention huge game breaking problems with the multiplayer. If not mention them, DEDUCT points for them like you would any other game.

RDR will not be GOTY. I think front runners for that are: GOW3, Heavy Rain, and ME2.

BeaArthur3072d ago

To be fair, those problems are probably from server strain and since the reviewers were playing the game before the mass public got their hands on it those problems may not have surfaced.

It's way too early to call any game GOTY. Halo: Reach and GT5 are still yet to release.

I totally agree Drek. Although RDR is a good game its nothing like what the reviewers were calling it, which were 9-10's. I find this game to be the same quality of GT4 out of the gate, which were mostly glitches. I wont be fooled by another R* game again, not even Agent.

I completely agree, but I have to say that between myself and a couple friends, there are a bunch of people who have had pretty poor single player experiences as well. For example, I myself have had way too many bugs and glitches occur, some of them even game-breaking, that have ended up draining a lot of the fun aspect.

Like the other day, I had played through a mission where you need to get a deed for an old guy's property and give it this other guy with a dowsing rod who wants it. I ended up paying $200 for the old guy's deed in order to get the honorable outcome, but when I went to drop it off, the game gave me the cutscene you would get if you killed the old man and stole the contract off his corpse. In no way did I attack the old guy or him end up dying, and because the game autosaves right after giving him the contract, I am stuck with the bad outcome for no reason, unless I reload an older save and redo the entire mission and any other missions I would have to redo since the last save I made.

And that's hardly been the least of the problems. I've ran into far, FAR too many in the time I've played so far, in just about every main area, controls, graphical, gameplay, etc. It's not to say that it's a bad game by any means, but so far my experience has not at all been what I was expecting for a game so highly praised.

I'd say it's a pretty good game overall, if you are able to put bugs and glitches aside. I've personally just ran into so many issues since I've started playing, that I am honestly blown away and insulted that reviewers have ignored this completely and just praised it to death calling it GOTY and best sandbox ever, because in it's current state, I don't think it should even be a contender for best sandbox of the year.

playing it on the 360 here ! and yeah easily goty

GenghisKhan3072d ago (Edited 3072d ago )

The gameplay has no depth. it just ride and shoot. uncharted 2 had the traversal system going for it but RDR's shooting while riding a horse is as bad as gta4 drive-by shooting mechanics. ALSO, THE COVER SYSTEM IS CRAP. graphics are overrated. and MP is as bad as GTA4's, which no one really played.

gt5 will be game of the year.

Pennywise3072d ago

Auto Aim ruins the experience in MP. I know they have hardcore mode, but no hardcore free roam makes me sad.

LOL You remember when the deducted points from MAG dont you?
They called it glitchy and IGN I believe took away points because of the type of people they were grouped with in matches.

It didnt matter that many problems were patched up later they only cared about the out of the box experience. But now here with Red no one, NO ONE mentioned these types of glitches in the MP. In fact many people here on N4g are saying oh well..they should have it fixed by the end of the week. Again were waa the love for MAG man? LOL.
I just dont understand how this could even be considered a GOTY nominate.

Pennywise3072d ago

Exactly.... they are all hypocrites. MAG online is 256ppl and has less problems than RDR.

cobraagent3072d ago

Buttons3072d ago
