IGN: Where's the PS3 Red Dead Redemption Review?

Some of you may be waiting with much anticipation for Rockstar's next game, Red Dead Redemption. It comes out this week and if you'd like an early verdict on it, make sure you read our review of the Xbox 360 version. Unfortunately. Rockstar was unable to provide us with a copy of the PS3 edition of Red Dead Redemption early and so we've had to delay that review until we get a chance to take it for a spin.

I wonder why they're making 2 different reviews for the game. Aren't they supposed to use the same review for both versions?

If they received both versions, and they were reasonably similar, they probably would do just one review. Since they haven't played both versions, I agree the responsible thing to do is wait. If any differences are minor, they will probably just copy and paste the Xbox review into the PS3 channel.

The reason there is no PS3 version is because they are still playing the extra exclusive PS3 content which seems to add a lot more game play time

There's no way to do that now. The game went gold weeks ago. And if IGN has to wait for an update to the PS3 version to download before they play it, you can bet your ass they're going to reflect that in their review.

...with respect to this game. Mainly because I already paid off my copy and secondly I made up my mind about purchasing this game after seeing the free roam mode. That mode with 7 other pals sold me on this game and it's reason enough for me to play RDR.

The only thing left to decide upon now is if I'm going to jump right into the free roam mode right away or try the SP campaign first. Outside of those thoughts I DO HOPE to NOT feel in ANY way like I did a few days after my GTA4 purchase.

EDIT: What I really would like is another video review now that I'd read the 360 Review of the game. I don't expect any differences in those write ups.

Of the reviews of the PS3 version I've seen, all have been positive. The secrecy about the PS3 version is quite odd. No footage, few reviews, ect.

There's nothing odd here. In the U.S. media, it's typically the 360 version that is completely reviewed while the PS3, if at all played, is only done a bit to determine any peculiar differences.

Same thing happened with FF13 but with the 360. Neogaf reporting sub HD resolution on the PS3 version of RDR and the PS3 version meta score is lower. Mostly the 360 version has been shown up until a day ago. The same people that exposed FF13 and Alan Wake resolution say the PS3 version of RDR is Sub-HD. Of course there isn't 100 articles about the findings because N4G is a pro PS3 site.

GTAIV and RDR use essentially the same engine- though RDR is a better/optimised version. On PS3 the resolution of GTAIV was 640 or something wasn't it?

If this is indeed true- I think its pretty ridiculous this late into the cycle that they can't make identical ports by now.

On another note for Australian gamers...

The Australian GTAIV was slightly censored on release to conform to our antiquated rating system. Besides the sexual content some of the minor violent aspects were removed from the game: the location damage and blood pooling on Niko's gunplay victims (and himself).

The most recent patch to GTAIV, released just prior to the Episodes from Liberty City release for GTAIV seems to have removed censorship of the blood pooling and location damage: I'm assuming because when the episodes were rated these aspects were overlooked and allowed into the final products.

So my point is...

I was fearing that we would find out (after release) that RDR was subject to the same minor (but noticeable) violence censorship, which I thought that, in a game so heavily reliant on gunplay, would have a noticeably negative impact.

This has allayed my fears that RDR is censored in this way... though it remains to be seen.

Dude, You can't use off-screen capture for determining quality. Too many variables on the shot itself, including the interlace issues with the capture tool.

You do know that the one who posted the pics isn't the same guy, only the guy who commented and said this is under the assumption that it's running properly at 720p as well.

Those screenshots are horrible ones to use due to blurring through hand movement and other screen elements.

Take a look at one of his other shots and tell me that's a good image to use even though even the sharp text is blurred:

they're more worried about the 360 version's score over the actual game itself. In the case of FFXIII, if you really have to pause the game and look at still snapshots to see noticeable differences, it really doesn't warrant a different score, ESPECIALLY when the game performs equally well on both platforms. And the funny thing is, half the people complaining weren't even planning to buy that game in the first place.

Seriously guys, give yourself less stress and just do your own thing on your PS3. You really expose your pointless insecurities when you go around stalking every pro-360 article, quietly disagreeing with everyone who supports the 360, bashing 360 games for "sub-hd graphics," getting angry that the 360 version's score wasn't lowered, etc.

I don't think there's been any direct captures of the PS3 version yet, The Sub-HD is mostly based on assumptions about the RAGE engine and GTAIV - it does make sense, but we don't have proof yet of any of it, they may be closer than we think by now to matching visuals.

i dont count lines or whatever for resolution but as it was pointed out int hat forum, in order to give a good guess or even an accurate count, would the image in question need to be from a tv thats in hd? cuz the picture i saw had a tv in it with a round tube, it wasnt even a flat screen...

I wasn't surprised that we were going to see the 360 version of RDR first (it's IGN after all). But that doesn't make any sense that they received the copy late when other sites that are not even as big as them got both versions on time. Hmmmm....Well hopefully we get to see the review unlike the FF 13 review for the 360.

Wow guys, FYI there is a limited number of review copy's for a game. It would make little sense for R* Marketing team to give IGN or G4 or any place 2 review copy's when they can give it to them and another site. What IGN is saying is they have to go buy it when it comes out then review it. Your all way over paranoid.

The reason the 360 versions meta score is higher is that most sites (that gave it a perfect score)have reviewed the 360 version. Im sure they would have given the PS3 version the same score. Also Eurogamers 8/10 score which was for both systems is missing from 360's Metascore.
