Some footage from the canceled console version of The Witcher has surfaced over on YouTube, and it really makes you ache for what could have been.

its ashame that us console owners wont be able to enjoy :(

Raf1k15089d ago

It'll run pretty well on most modern PCs and it's prett cheap now so it's worth picking up.

I see a lot of 3rd person view footage for these games. Am I the only one who played it using the top down view?

Darkfocus5088d ago

wait there was a top down view for the witcher? 8/ I played through the whole game without realizing that.

morganfell5088d ago (Edited 5088d ago )

It isn't top down unless someone added a mod. You can change views on the fly with Over the Shoulder, Low Isometric, and High Isometric.

Raf1k15088d ago

Well, it's as mroganfell says.
What I meant was high isometric but I said top down since it's basically more of a birds eye view since isometric kind of implies it's a fixed isometric view when in fact you could rotate the camera angle. Sorry for the confusion.

Darkstorn5088d ago (Edited 5088d ago )

@raf-
This is not footage from the original Witcher.

I loved the first Witcher, but I doubt my 256mb video card will be able to handle The Witcher 2. Time to upgrade...

Raf1k15088d ago

Yeah I know but all the footage of Witcher games I've seen (this one, the actual Witcher game that was released and the sequal that's in the works) have been shown using this view.

sid4gamerfreak5088d ago (Edited 5088d ago )

the videos taken off....cant see it....

loved the first witcher btw...

MR LOOKINGBILL5089d ago

i don't know if my pc will run it ..but im definitely interested in this game. The PC footage i've seen blows this away.

voice_of_ reason5088d ago

That's because the pc footage you've seen that "blows this away" is from the Witcher 2. This is not the Witcher 2, just a port of the original that never happened.

Video no longer available :(

Anyone knows where can i find the vid? i really wish to see it :)

hassi945088d ago (Edited 5088d ago )

So I never knew it was cancelled :/ At least I'll be getting a moderately good gaming PC in a few weeks so I'll probably pick it up for that.

How do you think a 2.6gHz AMD Athlon II X4, 4GB RAM and a ATI Radeon 5750 will do on this?

TheIneffableBob5088d ago

I ran the game maxed out on a 7900 GT, so I think you'll be fine.

Xof5088d ago

As fun as it would have been to play the Witcher with a better, more action-oriented combat system, I'm much happier that we're getting a whole new game (Witcher II) instead.

lbartley5088d ago

White Wolf wasn't even being made by CD Proket. We're not getting Witcher 2 INSTEAD, that was coming anyway. This was cancelled, along with other Widesceen Games projects, because apparently they can't manage to actually produce anything, so CDP pulled the plug.

Its to bad it does not sound like it really will happen. But as long as Witcher 2 comes out on the consoles that will be great.

Interview – The Witcher 2's senior producer, Tomek Gop

VG247: With CD Projekt having now formally announced The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings – along with nice assets to back it up – we grabbed some time with senior producer Tomek Gop to chat about the game's new engine, what's going on with The Witcher on consoles and what to expect from Geralt's sophomore release.

"I remember that before release of The Witcher we got an opinion from ESRB saying that “the game contains really little violence compared to the amount of sex”, while at the same time PEGI was like “hey, the mature content in your game is so teen, you could easily spice it up a bit if you’d like”."

US vs EU, too funny.

YEEEES :)

MurderMyDoll5266d ago

Yes! Rise of the White Wolf is not cancelled! this is brilliant news, really looking forward to the sequel Assassin's of Kings, The Witcher is the most amazing RPG i've ever played! Cannot wait!

Tony P5266d ago

My only hope is that this game is not in any way toned down by a console release. I wanted the "dark fantasy" Dragon Age to be it's match, but DA is bloody milquetoast compared to The Witcher. The language is foul, the locals are horny, and the morality is truly gray. The Witcher is not a series that needs to be censored.

"They want the game to be published in identical form in all countries..."

a sign that you'll get your wish?

toaster5265d ago

Just kidding.

The first The Witcher was amazing. One of the most enjoyable RPG's in my opinion.

Perkel5265d ago

hey now they are be using their own engine developed from the scrath :D

dynamic night and day weather, advanced physic etc.

kraze075265d ago

Still haven't played the first one. I'll def pick it up after I beat Dragon Age the first time through.
