Examiner - The Agency: Covert Ops review

Last week, Sony Online Entertainment announced The Agency: Covert Ops, a social action game. Based on the same world as The Agency, SOE's upcoming MMOFPS, The Agency: Covert Ops (affectionately known as TACO) is a free-to-play casual game available on Facebook.

In TACO's announcement, John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment, said, "It's a great way for Facebook users to play a casual game with exciting missions, great mini-games, and even the ability to share achievements with your Facebook friends. It's the ultimate in spy-genre Facebook gaming." After some long hours with this game since its release, I'm confident in saying that Smedley was not far off from the truth.

Are they not doing a PS3 version of this anymore? I hope so --was really looking forward to it.

The Agency is still planned for PS3 as well as PC, yeah. This is just a Facebook casual game they made to keep fans happy.

I have a good feeling VERSUS XIII will be some incredible game that will satisfy even the most hardcore of Final Fantasy fans. So it can wait, and have more work put into it.

I get a similar vibe from AGENT. It should be something of magnitude. There must be some reason we haven't been shown anything yet.

The rest I'm not so bothered about.

i cant wait for ffvs 13 exclusive on ps3 everytime i see this trailoer man its mind blowing peace out ?

I dont know about FF versus. I mean FF13 was in developement for 3+ years and the only thing to show for that time was the graphics. If versus turns out to be a so so game I will not be buying SE games like I use to.

DigitalRaptor5153d ago

I don't think you have much to worry about!

I agree with Digital Raptor, Versus is a FF7/8/9 styled FF game with a KH/Tps combat sysetm. With great music so far. Yoo shimimura does great music. One of the things I like about KH.

Wow I kind of forgot about the agency and as much as I would like to see FFXIV released on PS3 I'd rather they take the time to fix the problems [after they regain their balance after the quake and tsunami of course!]

Has there been any new information on the agency lately that I may have missed?

Capt-FuzzyPants5152d ago

The agency sounds interesting.

Take all the time you need on Versus. I really dont care as long as it is going to be a historic game. Plus it gives me something to hope for.

Gamasutra Interview: SOE Talks Building Out The Agency Onto Facebook

Much has been made of the opportunities for Facebook as a gaming platform, but alongside the rise of the metrics-focused social gaming industry and exploding casual user bases, few developers see any relationship between this burgeoning space and the traditional business.

But Sony Online Entertainment sees a way to bridge that gap -- it's extending its massively multiplayer shooter property currently in development, The Agency, onto Facebook with a social game subtitled Covert Ops.

Wow, this title is more ambitious than I thought it could actually be. Now Im intrigued. I wonder what kinda cool things they are gonna come up with this? This is not only a good marketing tool, but it makes games more accessible to people who generally dont play games, and could possibly turn non gamers into the most hardcore of them all.
