If you look at the features list, it looks like they were developing a completely different game within the lines of "play/create/share", it's not even "just" a platformer anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if MM decided that this will be LBP2 just few months ago... Actually, it's probably Sony's idea, advertising a sequel is easier than advertising a new IP, especially if the original has many GotY awards.

That was in 2009 though and before Sony branded Media Molecule as part of the First Gen family! Lots has changed. Sony is magic for developers, they inject cash into devs and let them have the creative freedom of a painter.

LBP 2 is more revolutionary than any of those games. It's definitely at least a contender for GOTY, if it comes out this year.

The Hell I went through making bi-pedal robots that would walk across the whole game one time, then fall in two steps the next time. My lab was full of all kinds of crap that failed 50% of the time, but worked like a dream the other 50% of the time. I created all kinds of weapons and even broke apart other peoples creations to make my own. I would drop heavy stones on the locked creations to detach what I wanted from what I didn't!

The randomness of this game was amazing! I would test something 50 times and it would work 49 and really mash up the level 1 time.

LBP2 is essentially what LBP was meant to be originally. Like I said earlier, Mm knows what they need to do and this proves it. It's also not alienating LBP1ers because it still retains the core gameplay. It's the creation aspect that has exploded like crazy.

but if you decide to make a level,then yes it would take a lot of time

i absolutely LOVE LBP, and seeing what they are planning for the sequel already has my mind bursting with potential concepts.

this could elevate game prototyping to a whole new level. i've had a few ideas floating around my head for potential PSN titles that i'd love to pitch to Sony, but i'm only an artist, with no programming knowledge to really create a prototype to present.

if LBP 2 allows the freedom to create more than just platformers like it says, then i can see budding game designers using it as a tool to prototype their concepts, and potentially sell them to Sony. the PSN (and XBLA) are great avenues for indie developers, but often getting a dedicated team willing to work for nothing, and remain dedicated to YOUR concept is hard.

it looks like Media Molecule has another award winner on their hands. i wasn't sure where they'd go with LBP 2, but this is NOT what i expected, that's for sure. outside of The Last Guardian, LBP 2 has just become my most anticipated fall 2010 release.

I have been in the industry for just over 20 years now,back from the Bitmap Bros Gods,Magic pocket days,and cannot pick a game I have been more excited about.

LBP is my game of this gen! And this sequel sounds like a major advancement in every way. And I can only imagine how much more they will be showing at E3! Where I will be hanging out in front of their booth front and center.

When I first saw this at GDC 3 years ago,I was floored,and I expect the same this time around.

I just built an RPG type of upgrade system where you can spend credits you earn/find, and spend them on upgrades in LBP1, takes up 3rd of the thermo. Took me months to build it lol, so to hear that the next game may have a simple way of doing it is awesome, however it will take away from the craft of doing it.

Still I can't completly believe this. If it sounds to good to be true then it probaly is.

There's one thing they should seriously add to LBP2 and it's downloadable levels. Tracks in modnation racer are downloadable and that's awesome! you can actually stock some good tracks in your ps3 and play it with four player split screen offline. even if the levels are big, I don't care at all since you can upgrade your hardrive easily. it's one of the feature that would have been nice in LBP 1.
