Game Informer Alan Wake Review

Redefining Video Game Storytelling.

“Stephen King once wrote that nightmares exist outside of logic, and there’s little fun to be had in explanations – they are antithetical to the poetry of fear. In a horror story, the victim keeps asking ‘Why?’, but there can be no explanation, and there shouldn’t be one. The unanswered mystery is what stays with us the longest, and it’s what we’ll remember in the end.” These are the first lines of dialogue spoken in Alan Wake. Through this message, Remedy reveals its hand of cards to the player, outlining exactly what to expect from this horror experience.

Great score for a great game. To bad i won't be able to play it anytime soon

Leio5100d ago

Great score for a great game I never played xD
Talking about The hype effect.

Arnon5101d ago

Freaking hurry up and release it. It's gonna be such a good game.

StarScream4Ever5101d ago

Not too bad at all. Sucks for me that they axed the PC version. :(

sak5005101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

why? for the price of less than half a decent vga card that you would have required to play it on your pc you can buy a 360 to play this game or for that matter many great games.

mrv3215101d ago

And let's say for a moment, I know it'll be hard for you to imagine, but hypothetically if he already had a PC to play games then it not coming to 360 would cost quite a bit.

Lich1205101d ago

Also, some people like the improved graphics quality and resolution of PC titles.

Lets say you're a PC gamer, for say.. since 2007.. and play games that run just fine in higher native resolutions, fx, etc...

You need to spend more money to run one that doesn't boast the specifications of other titles like Crysis/Metro2099 .. etc?

Thats flawed logic. Compare the 360's specs to your average game pc please. You're saying the 360, at $199 is a super computer, to where you'd need to upgrade your PC to run it.

Shame theres no PC version, especially when they ran all the original demo's on the PC.

StarScream4Ever5101d ago

I highly doubt AW even needed a super PC anyways. Its not Crysis. Problem is that I'd rather see my PC investment worth paying off for the next 5 yrs than having to get my 360 fixed/a new once awhile.

Maybe I'm one of those with bad luck on 360 iono. But I just had enough of going through the headaches and all.

Greywulf5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

I can understand that star scream. I had bad luck with my bullet proof PS3. YLOD on my 60gb.

BUT, your PC isn't going to see any action. Multiplatform developers aren't wasting resources to make super versions of PC games anymore for the small audience.

The worst thing about the consoles success is that it has really shifted the concept behind a AAA pc game. Before Dev's were out trying to 1 up eachother with the next big PC franchise. Consoles barely run 720p, and DX9. So why bother with your super PC version? Even crytek is making console titles now. The day for super PC titles is gone, it will be missed. But a wider audience is enjoying the titles rather than a handful of alienware elitist.

How many Crysis' are there compared to GTA halo..gears uncharteds etc.

@ Greywulf

I've a fairly decent PC 2.4ghz o/c 3.2Ghz 2 gb dual channel, Asus 5870 and just got a new monitor Asus MS236H. Even the jump from 19" 1440x900 to 1920x1080 on the screen doesn't make me wanna play any games on it. I still prefer laying on the sofa and playing on the 50" plasma @ 1080p rez. I connected the pc to the TV but doesn't feel right as i'm so used to the controller. SO if anybody is crying so much about a game missing a pc release can save up and buy a 199$ console to play a game on it.

@Sak

Very few console games actually run at 1080p. Im not saying I care, because my tv is only a 37" 720p anyway. But some people do like the better look of pc titles. Also, if you had your comp hooked up to your TV you could buy a controller (ps3 or 360) and use it with PC games on your TV from your comfy couch. Thats what a good friend of mine does. Personally I prefer the Keyboard / Mouse, but to each their own =)

Hallmark Moment5101d ago

Kind of like Rush Limbaugh passing up dinner with Obama.

BeaArthur5101d ago

It's not so much pass as you don't have the means to play it.

Hank Hill5101d ago

Are you guys seriously this butt hurt because he said he's passing on the game? What's wrong with gamers these days? No one can give their opinion without the fanboys getting all hurt inside.

Homicide5101d ago

He doesn't have a 360. He's just trolling the game and Xbox, as usual.

SaberEdge5101d ago

The only reason you say that is because you are a fanboy just like him and you like to troll 360 articles. People like me who just like to play good games, regardless of what console they are on, don't enjoy shifting through all the crap that guys like you write.

Halo3 MLG Pro5101d ago

UGH! One of the many open zone veterans that have been given a second chance. To bad he didn't use that second chance wisely. Already at one bubble.

Solidus187-SCMilk5101d ago

Too bad you dont have a choice anyways. Soo many ps3 trolls in AW articles.

I guess they need something to do while their waiting for mod nation racers to load.

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran88d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto8d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia8d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger8d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie8d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

Profchaos8d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie8d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh8d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

A thermos is upending the Alan Wake community

Remedy has Alan Wake merch on sale, including a pretty blue thermos. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone according to plan, and many players who want a thermos find themselves without one, though it does appear that Remedy is attempting to fix things. Nevertheless, it has resulted in a lot of upset, illustrating just how much the thermos means to Alan Wake fans.
