Is Nordic Games Preparing To Make A Darksiders & Red Faction Announcement?

Otaku Dome: Back in 2013 Aus gaming publisher Nordic Games ended up buying two of THQ’s key franchises; Darksiders and Red Faction they also snagged MX vs ATV as well. Many were left disappointed by the acquisition as they feared that a second sequel to the cult hit Darksiders would be replaced in favor of a reboot, however Nordic reassured fans that a sequel would indeed be the next entry in the franchise, however there was some sour with this sweet, as they confirmed that gamers shouldn’t expect the sequel until 2015 at the earliest. While no news on the dormant Red Faction franchise was given, it was at least good to know that Darksiders 3 was perhaps their top priority out of the two AAA properties, and it was even in what may be the early stages of development.

ATi_Elite4092d ago

PLease oh please and take Red Faction back to the good ole days with the great story and adventure of the original Red faction.

Red Faction was my first PS2 game (bought a PS2 just watch The Matrix DVD on it lol)

OtakuDome4093d ago

Might be a minor glitch or on your end, it works for me.

Mankey4093d ago

Must be. I've tried opening it a few times now and nothing.

OtakuDome4093d ago

Oooooohhhh, please please please PLEASE let there be a Darksiders 3, and please let it hit the Wii U as well as other consoles.
I still own and love Darksiders II on the Wii U, despite not having all of the DLC. I can only imagine how great the third entry will be if it is made with all the same love and care as the second one...

************SPOILERS********** ********

I don't think Death died at the end of Darksiders 2 as Darksiders 2 was a prequel to Darksiders 1. Death went through his journey to allow the events of Darksiders 1 to take place and if you watch the ending of Darksiders 1 and 2 carefully, you see 3 comets falling to earth as the final battle is about to begin. When War gets asked if he will face the challenge alone, his response is "no, not alone," and the camera moves towards the 3 comets and we get told about the 4 Horsemen being unleashed as the seals are broken.

DragonKnight4093d ago

There's nothing to think about. Death did die, but when War broke the seal it immediately revived Death which is why he and the other 2 Horsemen are heading to join War at the end of Darksiders 1.

Also Darksiders 2 isn't a prequel, it's a simultaneous story. It occurs after War initially is summoned to Earth at the beginning of Darksiders 1 and he is defeated in the opening of the game. He is put to rest for 100 years and it's during that time that Death's story is taking place.

fei-hung4093d ago

Thanks for clarifying that. I dont know why, but I keep thinking it was the breaking of the seals that instigated Wars arrival on earth on Darksiders 1. I think I need to play through it again :)

On another note, I hope if they do make a 3rd Darksiders it is only on the next gen consoles and PC. You can tell they pushed the last gen consoles as far as they would go in terms of scale of the game and architecture.

Hopefully it wont be a co-op experience, but a natural evolution of the previous games; a solid single player experience with tons to do. I think co-op would totally ruin in.

Worst comes to worse, they could easily split the campaign between Strife and Fury, where you 2 stories running side by side e.g. Strife has to complete a mission in hell, Fury has to complete a mission in heaven. The missions take place on opposite ends of the good / bad spectrum.

The story could be that the next piece of the puzzle to return things to normality takes a new dimension to be unlocked, but due to the conspirators being on both sides, you must tackle puzzles on 2 separate worlds simultaneously.

Anyhu, enough ramblings, time to go munch!

Would love a new Red Faction as long as it's not as bad as Armageddon.

randomass1714093d ago

Haven't played any of the Red Faction games. What are those like?

SoulSercher6204092d ago (Edited 4092d ago )

The first two are classic FPSs IMO. What made them so great were the destructible environments, especially the first one. In FR1 ANYTHING was destructible. You could blow a tunnel through a wall forever if you wanted. The destructability was toned down in FR2 but played much better. They'll feel dated now but if you don't mind that you'll enjoy them. If you own a PS3 they are both up on the PS Store for 9.99 each as PS2 classics, for NA mind you.

As for Guerilla it's probably one of the best TPS out there. While not the entire environment is destructible, the buildings are. They work on real physics and if you blow a hole in its foundation it will eventually topple over or fall straight down. If you're lucky it'll fall on top of other buildings like a domino effect or crush enemies. And as the name suggest you use guerilla tactics to take out your enemies. Such a great game, and it's $20 or less now.

Don't bother with Armageddon, it changed the series for the worst. Hope you give the first three a try :)

aliengmr4092d ago (Edited 4092d ago )

I agree if its a choice between Guerrilla and Armageddon, its Guerrilla all day long. I have spent hours destroying buildings and (with a mod) rebuilding them.

But I will defend Armageddon just bit. When you consider its lineage, its brought down quite a lot and rightly so. The transition from RF:G was just terrible. And as a concept it was just a bad idea to go from open world (where GeoMod, which is responsible for the amazing building physics) was really useful, to, literally, tunnels where it mostly wasn't.

However, if you forget about Armageddon's lineage, it becomes a fun little TPS with neat physics. Not a "bad" game. "Bad" idea? Yes, but for what it is, despite how much I don't want to like it, I am forced to admit its not a bad game taken on its own merits.

Red Faction Armageddon "blows the whole world out"

THQ's Executive Vice President Danny Bilson talks up the Red Faction universe in the latest dev diary, including the new game Armageddon, the downloadable game for PC/PSN/Xbox Live, the television series on SyFy, and a bunch of webisodes leading up to the launch. Red Faction: Armageddon is "the center of the universe" with all of the trans-media marketing to support that universe.

When talking about the improvements in Armageddon over Red Faction: Guerrilla, he stated "We polished everything".

nedensmelly5427d ago

I'm looking forward to the multiplayer as well. And the co-op downloadable game I keep hearing about. Just blowing everything up in general, hell yeah!

Am I the only one who thinks this story title is just a step away from sexual innuendo?

Red Faction 4 Goes Dark, Gritty?

GGTL: "All that's been seen is the picture above you - the title text. Now, title texts usually don't tell you anything other than how to spell the damn name, but this... this is interesting. Compare the 'Red Faction 4' screen with this Medal of Honor shot (after the jump)."

Certainly will be nitty gritty :D

Hideo_Kojima5505d ago

I am hoping for some variable environments... Like snow mountains and maybe if the game is set 100 years after RF:G they could have a few forests?

Valay5505d ago

Hm...I'll pay attention to this.

DA_SHREDDER5505d ago

I really hope they bring the old Red Faction feel back. Make it a FPS, bring back the old destruction along with the new. Keep the old story intact. Red faction 3 was a huge disappointment to us old RF fans. Its like turning FF from a JRPG to a WRPG. You totally screwed over your old fanbase. Sorta like how Squeenix is pissing off their fanbase.

Dnied5505d ago

not to the extent Square did but i miss red faction 1 with fps and OMG making tunnels was the most fun I had in a game since goldeneye lol

peeps5505d ago

I do wish it went back to how the original red faction was but i really can't see that happening now tbh. after all the effort they put into Guerrilla i wudda thought they'd wanna keep it open world and third person. Time will tell

poopface15505d ago

Either way is good for me. I just really enjoy the destruction and crazy different ways to destroy things.

ElementX5505d ago

I don't see the purpose in everybody on the Internet over-analysing everything that's released. You have pixel counters, side-by-side comparisons, people digging through each frame of trailers, blowing up, cropping, looking at things backwards... Some people really need to get out more.
