S.T.A.L.K.E.R. COP with DirectX 11: Consoles, eat this

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat comes with DirectX 11 - and mods for better graphics combined with Downsampling techniques make this game look even better that out of the box. New screenshots show the improvements - console players should check this out if they're talking about Uncharted 2 graphics.

Sorry but when you consider the power of a high end PC and then compare what we are getting from consoles with less than a 3rd of the power we really should be seeing better than this, I have not really seen that much of an improvement since Crysis, PC's should blowing this away by now.

You can't build good looking games entirely from good technology. For a graphically rich world, you need lots of artists.

For a relatively small studio with limited resources, I'd say GSC Game World's effort is pretty impressive. The textures are fantastic and the lighting is great, though the geometry is pretty blocky.

It's a shame. The PC can definitely deliver a far better presentation, the problem is finding a developer with enough passion to pull it off. And so far, we've seen none. But I'm not worried, it's all a matter of how long it'll take for Nvidia, AMD-ATI, and Intel to invest in a developer to justify the tech.

I loved CoP, the lighting is the best there is seriously, however the polygons show the old age of their engine. I personally don't mind, but if you're comparing graphics on the whole CoP falls a bit short in the polygon aspects. However lighting (seriously when there is thunder and rain it's mindblowing) and textures in certain areas (except ground) are great.

You know Alan Wake was also a PC game, right? If you compare the PC shots from a couple years back to the 360 version right now, you can see that the PC version looks quite a bit better. Imagine what it would look like if they continued working on that version.

Lolwat? Maybe if you were to buy brand new as soon as a graphics card comes out. But you don't need to at all, you can wait 6 months or so and it will be far more affordable. I only buy a graphics card every 3 years or so anyway, I save a fortune and still have a respectable setup that deals with the latest games.

thanks. Thats cool. 8800gt is not that steep. I love stalker but my poor laptop barely runs Shadow of Chernobil @1280x720 with 2xAA.

I'm playing with a 8800gt and it runs pretty sweet with most settings on high. Due for an upgrade I think.

Because you can find High Profile GPU's capable for DX11 like the 5770 or 5850 for under $250.

speaking as the owner of a GTX295, q9650 quadcore cpu, 8 gigs of ram etc self made desktop. after playing GOW3, i have even more respect for the potential of my ps3, from the AA to the lighting to the scale to the textures etc, are all at the cutting edge of the industry. articles like these just puts pc gaming in a bad light. it's a very dumb article.

The game isn't old, it came out only a month or two ago. And just wait til modders are finished with this game, it will look FAR better, just like Clear Sky and Shadow of Chernobyl.

Could not agree more, and you have a hefty system compared to mine now, because i won't upgrade anymore for awhile.

I've seen nothing to upgrade for.

I'm not sold on DX11, until proven otherwise, i don't honestly care anymore whether or not everything is realtime and not coders trick, as long as it pulls me into the game.

Of course PC has various highend hardware, but in the software stakes graphically, it's not used.

Crysis pushed the pc to it's limit, and other then scale tweakage can be done on a console.

It was obviously a PS3 owner who gave you the disagree. Why? Well, you may not have heard this yet, but:
The PS3 totally and utterly DESTROYS the 360, and so OF COURSE Crysis 2 will look MUCH better on the PS3. PS3 and 360 could not possibly have the same features, so your statement is TOTALLY WRONG.
PS3 is soooooooooooooo much more advanced. Have you seen Killzone 2? Man, best looking game ever! Those crisp textures, WOW, just WOW! Killzone, I'm telling you, man, Killzone is THE BEST. And don't even get me started on UC2.

The features displayed in the PS3 version of Crsyis 2 is a feature THAT is in the CRYENEGINE WHICH is in ALL versions....

Also keep in mind this will run at 1080p or higher with aa. . That adds a lot to the visual experience. The textures and ambiance look fantastic.

Now let's talk about gameplay. Hundred of quest, open world, dynamic day/night/weather system, ammo gestion, factions, so many details you didn't even scratch with any game on console like radioactivity management, hunger and such.

Oh, and you can mod.

This might not be the beutifullest game on PC that's true, but gameplay is something console just cannot provide, and you're missing GREAT things.

wandering in the zone with almost nothing but weird noises is something that can't be translated in screenshots ;)

and hardware wise my q9650/hs4890 runs it just perfectly and it's not that expensive

That wasn't the point i was making or trying to make.

It was just video i had a link to concerning the Crysis2 vid, merely pointing out that features in crysis are infact used in the console versions.

I'm not sure why pc owners are angry about consoles, or hate them? I have PC/PS3/360/Wii.

What gets my main use is both my PC and My PS3, The wii is for my son to play, and it gets used, the 360 does not get alot of my time.

It's like people here have a thick skull and no matter what you say it cannot penetrate. Maybe you need to take your anti virus off?

Nobody is hating on PC. Most of us use them. for both net and games among other things.
