Playstation Move first look :stuff.tv

stuff.tv: I had a first look at the Playstation Move system in action this week, and I wasn't disappointed.

First off, the big glowing orbs look brilliant, and even at the end of the session I felt like I should be bringing planes into land.

whateva5115d ago

you have to love all the reports of how accurate the PlayStation Move is.

Nicholas Cage5115d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

it does look very accurate, i think thats the main reason im looking forward to this. i wonder with the accuracy what they can do with it.

SPUNUPS I AGREE. i want them to untilize it,like they are utilizing bluray for games, ex: uncharted 2, gow3, killzone 2, these are good examples. i want something new! fresj that is very very accurate and runs based off of accuracy.

Absolut_Turkey5115d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

Agreed. I do enjoy all of the positive news and reviews that are coming out for the Move. What I really enjoy is the fact that when talking about the Move, we don't have to say crap like, "Let's wait for E3 to find out more." Sony's got the tech, and isn't afraid to show it off.

5115d ago
Knushwood Butt5115d ago

The Move may not be original, but Nintendo's failure with Wii Motion Plus deserves to be exploited. Not only is the Move way better tech, but it is going to have healthy support with software gamers want to play.

Darkfocus5115d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

sure the wii's success was probably the factor that pushed more funds into this project and started mass production but what exactly do you call the eyetoy? for it's time it was extremely innovative. not to mention LBP, modnation Etc.

Oh and by the way in no way do sales mean a product is good. It means a product was well advertised but not necessarily that it's good.

Ven10005115d ago

This is a tech demo from 2003. Sit down and learn something....

Shendow5115d ago

You might want to do some history check on Sony an controllers, it go's back to PSOne.

1.Trophies: Do you know how long Sony was thinking about bring it to the PS3? No I don't think you do, plus you can't say they are the same because you don't get a gamerscore from getting Trophies.

2.Home: Home would have come to PS2 but the PS2 lack power of online, another thing to keep in mind is how long were they working on it and if the had help from the people that made 2nd Life.

3.PSN: Ok so XBL is a copy of Sega Dreamcast online, how do you like that uh? Guess Xbox didn't have it first.

4.Background music: OK you most be dumb or something to say its the same, PS3 background music is offer to developers to add to their game if they want to, 360 offers you the chance to do it anytime you want. At the cost of your game freeze or losing in game sound.

5.Move: It maybe look the same but like I said, you don't know how long they work on this an it was way before the Wii came out, plus your comment about "Tell the 70mill people that" -_- please no one buys a Wii for the Wii plus and the games that use it have sold as good as Wii Sports or Wii Fit.

Another thing, each company copys something from some one, 360 doesn't need HDMI for HD "BOOM IT HAS IT", 360 does need to waste memory an install games "BOOM it got it an helps". Think before you say Sony is the only one copying things.

HolyOrangeCows5115d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

"Trophies- Achievement clone
Home- 2nd life clone
PSN- A poor clone of XBL but its free so can't complain there..
Background music, Ingame XMB- All features copied from the 360
Move- Wii clone"

Here we go again...
Move tech was in the works long before the Wii was born, Xbox LIVE charges and uses mainly P2P servers, even with 1st/2nd party games (Give me the many dedicated servers of PSN in many titles (for free) anyday), Whoopie features! I guess we can excuse the inferior online connection in exchange for features, and home is not a 2nd life clone it is a place to connect with other gamers to play games with.

thief5115d ago

At least if Sony "copies" the wii they will bring out some decent, imaginative games using motion control
What has the wii produced in almost 4 years? The same old Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart all with the same gameplay that you saw 10 years back, with laughable storylines and flawed game mechanics, such as Kart's rubber band AI
Its Sony's exclusives that have been responsible for most of the innovation and creativity in this generation. LBP, Heavy Rain, Modnation Racers, Flower, where is the wii's equivalent of these games?

jaysquared5115d ago

@Dark- Sure sony will say that the move has been in developement for years.. You think they are really going to come out and say "after the Wiimote sucess we decided to copy it!"

"Oh and by the way in no way do sales mean a product is good. It means a product was well advertised but not necessarily that it's good."

You really think the Wiis commercials was good advertising? LOL!! I thought theose commercials was stupid.. The reason the Wii is selling good is because its fun and non gamers are buying them up! I mean when have you heard a nursing homes wanting to buy a gaming console for their residents?? Yes to us "gamers" the Wii is garbage but for the rest of the population it was great!

@ven100- Looks more like atech demo of a new feature for the PS eye..

@THC Cell- Wow its been a while since i've heard the 360 go the route of the Dreamcast.. Last time I heard that was before the PS3 launched and Sony fanboys proclaiming that the 1 year headstart the 360 had was irrelevant b/c the Dreamcast had a 1 year head start last gen but was still crushed by the PS2..

Fast forwared 4 years later and the PS3 still in 3rd place with most of their big guns already out(MGS4, GoW3, KZ2, FF13)only thing left is GT if that game even gets released but if M$ does come out with a 360 Slim, Halo Reach and Gears 3 it would be too late for Sony to overtake them for 2nd place! Oh and the dreamcast comparisons aren't really valid anymore that's so 2005!!! M$ has sold 40 million 360s with more to come and the 360 is still getting support past 1 year of life!

thief5115d ago

"The reason the Wii is selling good is because its fun and non gamers are buying them up!"
Exactly. A system that is much cheaper (or so it seems to non-gamers who dont know anything about gaming) and its mainly non-gamers that are snapping them up
So basically, now you can buy a system that offer all that the wii offers but in a superior format, with HD, free online that thrashes the paid Live (try playing Gears online with its laggy, host advantage and glicth-ridden multi) and games that are far superior to the tired, boring games that the wii throws up. Which can only be good for gamers.
Incidentally, I know several "non-gamers" who have bought the wii, and none of them have used it afterwards, or would buy another console in their life.

5115d ago
jaysquared5115d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

@Icyhot.. When and what article did I bl*w natals nuts off? If you check my your PM i told you i'm one of the few 360 fans who think Natal is NOT going to be a system seller! I doubt both move and natal will introduce the 360 and PS3 to the casual gamers/non gamers like the Wii has.. Both consoles are made for real gamers and Sony and M$ is trying to get the appeal of the non gamers like the Wii but it won't happen. All these non gamers already have the Wii and if they don't they would rather have the Wii for casual gaming because i'm prett sure they've either played with one at a friends house or heard how much fun the Wii is..

@Thief- At least your a Sony fan who can admit the move was clone.. LIke I said above casual gamers clamor to the Wii because of reputation.. The motion controller has been there since day one and 4 years later both Sony and M$ comes out with one like it.. They are both too late to the market.. The Wii just has the market of non gamers lock down...

Look at Apple and its Ipods.. Companies like Sony(Walkman), M$(Zune), Samsung, Panasonic etc.. They probably make better MP3 player with more features and cheaper than the Ipod but people still buy the Ipod up because everybody and their dogs have one and Ipods are just synonamous with MP3 players.. The Wii has the same effect to casual gamers! The 360/ps3 markets has always been towards the real gamers that's why many "gamers" disregard the Wii as not in the same class!

@Redrumm- Wow if you haven't seen any PS3 commercials in your life you must be living under a rock! The PS3 has better marketing now than it did before.. Its selling because its cheaper, has better games now and it has the Playstation brand which had the biggest fanbase!!

Redrum0595115d ago

there is one thing that you forget. although many ppl say that ps3 has improved its advertising, i still havent seen a ps3 ad on tv(and i watch a lot of tv) yet the ps3 manages to sell very well evry freeking year, evry freekin month, in every freekin country they sell it. Xbox360 was advertised up the azz, halo was advertised up the azz, halo wazz advertised up the azz(on freeking mountain due bottles aswell) and dont forget that you can find a 360 at 200$ brand new. those sony big guns you talk about also has had very little to none advertisement yet they manage to sell millions still. and i also think its stupid you bring up M$ sales because they are most focused on sells and also the most shady in obtaining them(rrod, year headstarrt, 1million bans around ps3slim/MW2 launch) just a few of many stunts they have pulled. keep talking about sells but remember that ps3 exclusives combined have a higher rated score combined then the 360exclusive list. all i know is that you will keep playing the same games that are no different from 2005 as i play games that keep getting bigger in size, scale, graphics, inovation. have fun with halo reach, halo resurection, halo revenge, halo destruction, halo revelations, gears 3, gears 4, gears 5, gears 6, gears 7.

Shendow5115d ago

Looks like he is getting mad because everyone keeps showing how wrong he is or she.

Absolut_Turkey5115d ago

What, if any, point are you trying to make? Do you think comparing the Move to a Wiimote somehow makes Move's tech less impressive? Do your comparisons some how invalidate the positive reviews it's getting? You think Nintendo was the first to use a "motion controller"? The "Sixaxis" says "Hi". Also, why is it when someone responds to you with a fact you respond by stating your opinion as if it were fact. Case in point: "Both consoles are made for real gamers and Sony and M$ is trying to get the appeal of the non gamers like the Wii but it won't happen".
Judging from your post (and poor grammar) I can safely conclude that you are not college educated, not technically savvy, and you're obviously another immature Xbox extremist trolling in a PS3 article. You're obviously incapable of rational thought and have the dubious distinction of being the first person on my ignore list.

Silly gameAr5115d ago

@Jaysquared

Shouldn't you be in one of the 10,000 or so Halo Reach or Natal articles? It's pretty obvious you're not interested in the PS Move.

Triella5115d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

"Sure sony will say that the move has been in developement for years.. You think they are really going to come out and say "after the Wiimote sucess we decided to copy it!""

Don't be of bad faith you're just making a fool of yourself.

We have videos from a 2004 conference given at Stanford U, where Sony's developper presents their motion technology based on a colored ball recognition, demoing it with a PS2 and explains the problems they've been facing with developpment since they first showed the technology back in 2000 (that's 6 years before we heard of the Wiimote).

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

vhero5115d ago

People stay on topic and ignore jaysquared and kill his bubbles instead he is clearly a deranged fanboy. We all know all devs will take great features from each other to make there own console better and usually improve on them I mean that's called good business. Back on topic Stuff TV are the website of a popular tech magazine in the UK I used to be a subscriber till I lost my job I am thinking of resubscribing though they really know what they are talking about when it comes to tech and have experts unbiased in every field.

I feel Sony have got it right with move as they feel the camera alone wont cut it and need the extra control for fluid tracking and better gameplay. I really think NATAL like eyetoy will have problems with more intense games. I mean try play some of the eyetoy games on PS2 and you will see what I mean some of them are frustrating as the camera does sometimes miss what you are doing if too much is going on. With the controller you are not just relying on the camera to do everything.

Speak2theHand5114d ago (Edited 5114d ago )

1.Trophies: Do you know how long Sony was thinking about bring it to the PS3? No I don't think you do, plus you can't say they are the same because you don't get a gamerscore from getting Trophies.

Maybe you are not aware but achievements was on the original xbox before PS3 was even thought of. And yes Trophies are a direct copy of achievements

2.Home: Home would have come to PS2 but the PS2 lack power of online, another thing to keep in mind is how long were they working on it and if the had help from the people that made 2nd Life.

You can say could of would of all you want. Doesn't change the fact.

3.PSN: Ok so XBL is a copy of Sega Dreamcast online, how do you like that uh? Guess Xbox didn't have it first.

Man i owned a Dreamcast and still do till this day, and i never seen a sega online service. A few games had online capability, but having a full online service for the dreamcast. Sorry no such thing but nice try though

4.Background music: OK you most be dumb or something to say its the same, PS3 background music is offer to developers to add to their game if they want to, 360 offers you the chance to do it anytime you want. At the cost of your game freeze or losing in game sound.

And harly any PS3 games support it. I play my music all the time while playing games and i have never had my system freeze or loose sound.

And you dont know how long Nintendo has been working on it, same can be said. And the PC had this stuff way before Sony or Nintendo thought about motion controls.

Projekt7tuning5114d ago

I don't want to be part of this stupid war or anything, but to the people saying MS copied the Dreamcast.
Microsoft help devlope the Dreamcast and its network hence the "Powerd by Microsoft" and the "Windows CE" logo. Remember it ran a custom version of Windows CE. Microsoft also had the MSX back in the 80s, that was there first console.

Im not on ether side here, just wanted to share some video game history with the young ins.

Im looking forward to Move and Natal. I don't think one is better than the other there just different. It's like trying to argue which is better Coke or Pepsi. No matter what you say they will both still be for sale.

I still don't see how Move or Natal will help me play GT5 or Forza any better. And if you cant tell by my Avatar that's all I really care about, racing sims.

Speak2theHand5114d ago

Where are you getting 2000 from? That is a conference in 2004. Funny how that video started then they showed Info on screen it was like it was spliced in. But Pc was doing motion controls before that.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5114d ago

There are videos from a developer from Sony, showing from the year 2000 and 2004, a motion controller with a sphere.

cmrbe5114d ago

Really impressed with this first look for a couple of reasons apart from what you mentioned.

What i also like is that

1. The first look is from a tech person that knows tech and not some celebrity.
2. How easy it is to setup and use move.
3. The variety of games that is already CONFIRMED it works on very well.

I really really like that the author is no super hyping move without cause. Its a pretty straight forward and honest preview. No promises or talk about amazing potential etc.

GT5

FFvXIII

Agent

The Last Guardian

Killzone 3

Resistance 3

inFamous 2

SOCOM 4

FFXVI

Twisted Metal

Mod Nation Racers

Jaffe's new game

The Agency

DC Universe Online

And you know there's more to come...

M$ "guns":

Alan Wake

Fable 3

Crackdown 2

Halo Reach

Gears of War 3

And to be honest, only 3 of these games are considered "guns".

Dee_915114d ago

Gotta let ignorance be ignorant lol

But it'l be kinda weird if socom didnt have crosshairs i could see that taking awhile to get used to

Shendow5114d ago

Wow, you really most not know much about Sega then, when they started their online for the Dreamcast is was said to be the next step in gaming by bring it online.

Background music, then play Halo 3 ODST then or how about Halo 3 online, then turn off the music an see if the sound is their, I own a 360 an right now it an my gf's Wii are the only two I count as a system I own for this gen.

As for the other part, I think ALFAxD_CENTAURO nail it.

I will be getting a PS3 Slim, but until then I'm play 360 games.

adlt5115d ago

I'm really interested by the eye pet...I wish it was built into the PS3 XMB somehow haha. Parents never did let me get a dog.

siyrobbo5115d ago

i just wish it had an analogue stick on the move as well as the sub controller, the socom demo looked quite good, but i hate the thought of having to move the curser to the far end of the screen to turn. dual analogue sticks would be great in a fps, keep the standard fps controls and use the motion control for precision aiming

Kratos Spartan5114d ago

Move replaces the second analog. That's the point. Now all we need is an awesome gun attachment to stick these contollers in.

siyrobbo5114d ago

yes but my point is that in the socom demo, the cursor isnt fixed to the centre of the screen like in most shooters, so when you move the cursor moves, much like a light gun game, to turn around you have to move the cursor to the edge of the screen. which means you cant accurately move and shoot at the same time. i think this could affect gameplay somewhat. Now if the cursor was fixed like when using a MOUSE this wouldnt be a problem

I suppose it all depends on how the game is coded

DaTruth5114d ago

It's Demon's Souls 2 or bust for me; And not some crappy integration that ultimately ends up ruining the game. Alan Wake with Move would probably be the best Move game if their were any chance in Hell of that happening.

I haven't really seen anything else yet to make me buy this.

JustTheFactsMr5114d ago

" to turn around you have to move the cursor to the edge of the screen. which means you cant accurately move and shoot at the same time"

The cursor to the side of the screen and turning is something that happens automatically if you go off screen but is not the only way to turn around. I believe the other Navigation controller allows turning as well.

That's what I got from the different bits I've seen anyway.

0verdrive5114d ago (Edited 5114d ago )

hey i never thought about that. having the crosshairs not fixed to the center of the screen is going to make aiming while straffing a bit more difficult and less percise, because it takes more turning to move in a circular motion around your target. i assume its gonna work similarly to the way the conduit worked for wii. did anyone play that game, and can comment on how it worked out in the conduit?

I love the potential of Move, but I know as well as everyone else, we don't want the "same old same old" software and ports of the Nintendo Wii. We just don't. Been there, done that. We want something new. Like an Oblivion Style game with FULL Playstation Move Support. Get it Done Sony. We want "Next Gen" Type Motion Control Support, Not Just HD. Something new and something Creative. The New "Fighter" game is a start, but don't abandon the Move like you did the PSEye. I've had an Eye since the beginning and YOU have done nothing for it, plain and simple. /rant

ClownBelt5115d ago

Just be patience lad. Sony will deliver.

shadow27975115d ago

I completely agree except about "fighter", which is a step in the wrong direction, imho. I want 1:1 games, not games based on gestures.

N4g_null5115d ago

The eye pet stuff needs to die, that's the wrong direction.

HolyOrangeCows5115d ago

If it were true 1:1 without gesture based movements, the game would need a way to stop your punches cold when your moves were blocked.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies9h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken4h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6920h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker20h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6919h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt7h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken4h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d 2h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto1d 1h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
