Flip's Twisted World Hands-On Preview

GamingUnion.net writes, "In recent years, it seems as if the 3D Platforming genre has all but disappeared on the Wii with the exception of the Mario Galaxy games. All these classics from the N64 era seem long gone these days, but leave it to Flip's Twisted World to bring back those romanticized days of high exploration platforming with a new take on the genre."

NWR: Flip's Twisted World Review

It's clear that Flip's Twisted World aims to not only evoke comparisons to high quality 3D platformers like Super Mario Galaxy, but also high-concept puzzle platformers such as Braid, And Yet It Moves, and A Boy and His Blob. However, the unimaginative level design, overall bugginess, and general lack of polish really stop it from achieving those goals.

The graphics and music pull most of the weight here, and the simple level design would encourage NWR to recommend the game for younger players were it not for the frustratingly difficult combat. Diehard GameFAN Review: Flip’s Twisted World

Diehard GameFAN: "Flip’s Twisted World presents players with a chance to play a platformer that offers a unique little gimmick: the ability to turn the world ninety degrees in order to bypass obstacles that would by impossible to cross otherwise. On paper, this is a neat concept with enormous amounts of potential for both player experience and level design — but execution is another matter entirely. So how does Flip’s Twisted World fare over all?"

GameInformer: Flip's Twisted Review

Remember the N64 era of video games? The birth of 3D gaming? Have you ever tried going back and playing games from that time? Aside from a few classics like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, a lot of early 3D titles don’t hold up, held back by an era where developers hadn’t yet learned how to handle camera placement or the added glitches that come with the addition of a full 3D environment. Flip’s Twisted World feels like a game trapped in that era.
