Ubisoft-DRM cracked

Ubisoft's always-on digital rights management solution has apparently been circumvented by hackers. The hack itself removes the DRM entirely and is being claimed by a consortium known as Skid Row. It requires users to download and install a modified version of the game's executable file to their computers.

And how they literally try to control the consumer,we buy the game we should be able to do what the hell we want with it.

ColdFire5117d ago

Yes the DRM was the most successful at stopping pirate so far. But it still failed, and has caused more lost sales and outrage than any other DRM.

Silly ubisoft :-) the higher profile the DRM and better publicised, the juicier the target appears for hackers. It was inevitable that something this intrusive was going to attract, shall we say, extra special attention from the hackers

Yi-Long5117d ago

DRM just pisses many MANY people off, so it just means they won't buy the game, even if they did intend to buy it.

DRM causes lost sales. And rightly so. I'll never ever buy a game that has DRM-restrictions.

Reminder: These are the same douchebags who want to stop including hard copies of documentation with software you paid $60 for under the guise of "it's green".

coldfoot5116d ago

If you're concerned about piracy, just don't bother releasing the game on PC. PS3 is the only 100% piracy proof platform for offline single player games.

As my computer science professor once said "No matter how high you build the fence it's always possible to build a ladder to go over it."

Myst5117d ago

Honestly that is a good quote right there lol. Bubbles and agree for that one.

BubbleSystemSuck5117d ago

I can not imagine the height of the ladder to go over the PS3 fence

Gran Touring5117d ago

Can't say we didn't know this was coming.

SKUD5117d ago

Nothing new to see here.

HammockGames5116d ago

...then it's a resounding "HELL YES!".

This was the most poorly conceived DRM scheme yet.

It needs to die a very public and embarrassing death so that we don't see the likes of it again.
