Kotaku writes: "A day after making Halo 3 available to Xbox 360 owners as a downloadable game, Microsoft let Kotaku know that while loading times may be impacted in this version, gameplay should run as well as it always did."
I'm going to stick with ODST. I want to have my Reach beta access.
A little bit of a slap in the face; "Oh btw, it may be significantly worse!"
Halo 3 sucks years later still.
No way...Halo is still great.
At the time it came out it should have been a much more quality game in regards to storyline and graphics.
Didn't it already have pretty long load times? I imagine that's a non-issue on the new engine.
The reason for the longer load times is the same reason Bungie advised against installing the game to the hard drive. Loading maps from the hard drive into their level cache and then to memory takes longer than loading straight off the disk.
@Ziriux, please, Halo 3 is one of the most well-balanced shooters out there. I was playing some last night and for the past few weeks and the multiplayer still holds up perfectly. And it actually works and isn't riddled with horrible glitches and bugs (hello, MW2). Taking a little longer to load is not a big deal at all.
Yea I guess you make a great point. Although stacking it up against Modern Warfare 2 is huge, but it out sold Halo 3, which means nothing, but I think that the first Modern Warfare 1 easily beats Halo 3 in every aspect.
Nah, I still think Halo outstrips Modern Warfare. MW2, on the other hand, nails what makes Halo so addictive.
Im not a fan of Halo 3 at all. Thought it was a recycled game that hadnt expanded on the ideas brought through in Combat Evolved. ODST was a great move to make the game fresh again. But on the topic of the slow loading times, isnt half the point of putting games on your harddrive that the game should run faster? Such an odd problem. For those that are fans and forked out the money rather than buying a second hand disc for far less than the download price, i hope they do fix it. Even if I don't like it, the people that do deserve better.
Well, part of the reason is that some games deliberately put data on certain areas of the DVD to decrease load times, but when it is installed on a harddrive, it no longer matters. It sucks but I mean it's nice to not need a disc to play.
No one cares Shalo 3 isn't a good game.
got kicked in the open zone with the crazies!
Halo3 is still one of the best games on Live
Halo failed to capture my interest.
Lol, it fails to capture most Brits, dont worry mate.
...this Halo-related story DID "capture your interest". Curious that....
Why not Halo Reach, than old crap garbage?
Halo 3 is a great game but I can't believe they didn't tweak it a bit for this.
cant belive theres people in here comparing cod to halo. halo online is best online experince going and thats coming from some that prefers pc-ps3
If the game is downloaded on the hard disk, shouldn't it take less time to load?
for original disc installs the disc copied to the HDD is a mounted image, much like the daemon tools utility. Its not the same as traditional installs for PC. the 360 goes through the same process of reading the disc image and loading the game to memory just like it does off the disc. Obviously you will get marginal speed increase due to the faster HDD drive, but other benefits include less noise, dvd drive wear and reduced heat. since the load times aren't improved im going to go out on a limb and say that the games on demand titles are disc images as well. the only reason i can find is this taken from another poster/site: "Halo 3 streams data off the disc onto hard drive to be used in game. When doing so from CD to HDD, it is working in an optimised manner. When installed to HDD, the data is streamed from one part of the HDD to another, requiring reading and writing at the same time... ergo HDD takes longer to read and write the set of data, increasing loading time."
idk about you guys but im quite tired of halo and halo-like games (such as mw2)..... i dont see why people like these bs games with camping, dbags (kids), bad rank system where the higher ranks have an unfair advantage with all their gear(heart beat sensor is bs!), plus its skill-less,.. yep, glad i switched to MAG, and i hope moh wont be a frag fest like cod and halo
What are you talking about. Halo doesn't give unfair advantages to people with higher ranks, and FYI, the player has the ability to alter the matchmaking search so that players with the same rank or close to it will be chosen to be in the game. Also, Halo is not a frag-fest type of game. I doubt you've even played it to make such a blatantly wrong statement.
Why are you in a thread about something you don't care about and gratuitously whining about how much you don't like it? Who takes that sort of self indulgent, attention seeking swill seriously? I sure don't.
Of course the gameplay's not affected. Why would it, when it streams at a constant 576P?
surely this only affects the three or four people with a 360 that don't already own halo :)
the load times were horrid in the first place. man u guys get ripped off alot
