Capcom & Sony Puts a limit on Game Sharing?

AOTF: If you lived under a rock since Nov 17, 2006 you should know that Sony had allowed the sharing of games downloaded from the PS store. Just in case you didn't know what you and a friend would do is put each others accounts on the others system. This at first was limited to 5 systems but recently with the release of the PS3 Slim that number was reduced to 3

Well it looks like Sony has found a way to get around the fact they allowed us to game share. With the release of Capcoms Final Fight/Magic Sword combo

I dont think this is anythin new, i tried 2 game share the MAG Beta wid 1 of my stoner buddy ages ago and got the same "24 hour" message

I didnt know Sony changed it form 5 to 3 though, thatll explain where my other 2 slots hav gone, i had a right blazin argument wid a mate coz i thought he stole my account and shared it wid his mate, i came SOOOOOOO close 2 batterin the mofo coz of it

Silly gameAr3100d ago (Edited 3100d ago )

I tried to game share the Uncharted 2 beta and the same thing happened to me. I had to wait 24 hours to play while he got to play all day.

Sucked. First and only time I gameshared.

kratos1233100d ago

you guys know that only counts fore betas but i think this will be only fore online games there just experimenting hope this wont be in any game i love gamesharing around 40 games i think

WildArmed3100d ago

No, its still 5 ps3s.
Sony said it was a press accounement error.

People never get their facts right.
And as for the 'limit' on game sharing.
Sony has already practiced that with many games and beta (including Warhawk)

You can play a game, but after the first time u launch it, the next 24 hours no other ps3 can access it.
Then after that you can access it on the other ps3, but than the same wthing will happen.
not a big deal for me. I have two ps3s, and i rarely play my other one since it's @ parent's place.

I wish they did this with the video content. Currently you can only download videos to one PS3. Would be great to be able to watch movies on both my player upstairs and downstairs without having to personally manage the files with USB drives.

Lifendz3100d ago

I understand the move to get rid of game sharing but I gotta say it would really suck if they got rid of it or did this online requirement for all PSN games. I don't game share on the level of some forums and sites. I have 3 close buds that I trust with my account info and vice versa. It was cool being able to share games for obvious reasons. The fact that Sony even had something like this available at all was surprising. Glad I took advantage of it while i could.

jjohan353100d ago

It sucks for us loyal customers who own more than 1 PS3.

RecSpec3100d ago

I bought the game on my sisters account (since my account is already maxed out on shares) I was able to play it but she had to wait 24 hours.

The next day, I couldn't play it at all.

The only thing I see with Warhawk is that Warhawk was a retail game. So locking it to one per console makes sense, they don't want to give the digital version an advantage over the retail version.

Redempteur3100d ago

i REPEAT : this is nothing new ... it's a PSN system thing that is implemented since 2006 ..

Move on folks.

Hellsvacancy3100d ago (Edited 3100d ago )

Comment reported as Spam, mofo, wots your problem? leave it b

himdeel3100d ago locks you out for 24 hours if that content has been accessed by another PS3 account. This isn't anything new.

IdleLeeSiuLung3100d ago (Edited 3100d ago )

I find it funny that Sony will allow game sharing something MS doesn't allow and kudos to Sony for that, but they will remove a non-existant threat with "Other OS".....

"Other OS" -> no immediate threat, and patchable in the future
Game sharing -> immediate threat, but no change

vhero3099d ago

Nothing new been used on other games and should really be used on all games. Although I say this I do share with 1 friend..

barom3099d ago

This type of DRM has been used ever since Warhawk came along. The only thing new about this article is that this DRM is now being used in Third Party Games. Previously it was found only in Sony games, most notably Warhawk, SOCOM and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (maybe Wipeout?).

'UNLESS you've been living under a rock.'

If I lived under a rock, I wouldn't know anything at all, because I'd be under a rock unable to hear things. Hence the phrase 'living under a rock'.

Venatus-Deus3100d ago

thanks for clearing that up... :-)

WildArmed3100d ago

the fact that you have the 'INTERNETZ' is enough to blow that statement to kingdom come

DamonTheMoney3100d ago (Edited 3100d ago )

I think he was making a sly joke attesting to the stereotype that if you're a gamer, and you know all the ins and outs of gamesharing etc, then you "live under a rock". major lulz

But the article is saying specifically '' since Nov 17, 2006''

''If you lived under a rock since Nov 17, 2006''.

Certain things cant be shared, I'm not sure of the in's and out's of why or how, but I do a lot of sharing with friends and there have been things from time to time that we couldnt.

Look_Behind3100d ago

Warhawk done this over 2 years ago.

Redempteur3100d ago

GT5 prologue had this too

It's nothing new hence the ? in the title.

It would be great if some "writters" would do some research before making articles ..

PirateThom3100d ago (Edited 3100d ago )

I wish Sony would impliment this on a more widespread, but they'd also allow you to activate as many PS3s as you want.

Basically, I don't game share anyway, so it doesn't affect me.

Well, if I only have one bubble, as long as I can make my point I don't care.
