Atari's Bushnell Talks About His 'Homecoming'

Following today's surprise announcement that Nolan Bushnell, co-founder of Atari, has come back to the company as a member of its Board of Directors, IndustryGamers chatted with Bushnell on the phone to get his reaction to rejoining the company he's best known for.

"It kind of is a homecoming. I think Atari has made some really nice strides in the last few years, and I feel like it's the right time and right place," he told us. "I've known [CEO] Jeff Lapin and some of the guys [for quite a while], and I bumped into them a few years ago at E3 and had some dialogue. It just all of a sudden felt natural I think for both sides."

that picture is awesome.

hopefully the old man will speak publicly a little more. he is one of our beloved industries pioneers and has a very interesting point of view on gaming.

I remember him saying in a Next Gen interview in the mid 90s that the minute someone figures out how to atract women to gaming it would make the market explode.

And I didn't know he said that about women and gaming, but I'd say that's spot on! haha...

I grew up on Atari and I'd like to see them come back to the industry leaders that they were.

One of the original pioneers in the American gaming industry, his impact was able to spread worldwide! It's good to see Bushnell back, hopefully he gets more public and Atari can once again be a recognized name.
