Exclusive: First details of Test Drive Unlimited 2

Given it's the burning question on any fan's lips, the locations of TDU2 is mentioned rather late in our presentation. By the time OXM discover that it's Ibiza, a beautiful and surprising island blighted by boozy Britons, and already been given a tour of one of its cars. Fetishists rejoice: the new game doesn't just feature two paint layers for each chassis, but a metallic flake layer, sandwiched between them. There's stitching on the seats, bespoke leather and velvet effects for the interiors, swatches from the official catalogues, and a deeply customisable sticker layer for that personal finish. Whatever will the manufacturers say? "They'll complain of course," laughs Nadal. "They're freaking."

But that's the whole point of TDU: pride of ownership. Pimp a car in TDU2 and it looks identical online and off, so whatever you've added can be seen by passing players. The game's avatar, garage and lobby systems have been drastically expanded, the options between racers now much closer to those of an MMORPG. Players can not only walk freely around their cars - even when they're sat on the starting line waiting for a race - but, more importantly, around their friend's cars. They can sit in each other's passenger seats, meet up in showrooms for a friendly spot of shopping, then throw down the gauntlet and bet on the result...

Both the offical xbox and playstation mag use the exact same screenshots to show this game, promo shots that arnt ps3 or 360?

I was just thinking about this game yesterday. Noticed they haven't said much about it lately. I liked the last TDU, but the fact that it was made last gen and porter over with updated graphics didn't do too well for it.

Developers rarely send out platfrom exclusive screenshots now, it's easier and cheaper just to send a big batch of them for all similar platforms.

I loved Test Drive as a kid, playing on the old Commodore 64.
The game 1st introduced me to the famous cars that I envy.

Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Countach, Porsche (can't remember model), Lotus (model) Chevrolet Corvette.

I loved the first one...

So we can walk around now huh ? How about walk around our multi-million credits home.... lol..

These scans were most likely taken from TDU-Central.com's forum. I can't believe they would turn around and call it exclusive....

At the end of the article TDU-Central have a link

Nice. Loved TDU 1 and 2, hopefully they do a good job.

I loved part 1 that had simulate racing physics and handling. Part 2 just fucked it up for me with its arcade style handling. This is the only game that can compete against FH3 if they bring back the physic style handling.

Most of the additions to TDU2 were not great but it did not ruin the game for me. This new one needs to have more than just Euro cars if it really wants to compete.

quent2681d ago

Have never heard of this developer, still exciting news though, loved both previous games.

So happy to hear this news. My favorite racing series is back!!! Now Motorstorm needs to come back.

8CN: When it comes to game worlds, bigger isn't always better, but that doesn't make these 10 titles any less impressive.

Test Drive Unlimited was awesome, the driving mechanics were pretty poor but the island was fantastic and felt huge. I regularly would race around the outside edge of the map in a loop, each lap would take about an hour in real time.
