A generation of screenagers are becoming hooked on a virtual world. We meet the compulsive gamers and the people who are helping them
Because we all know The Xbox has No Games !!!! AHHHAHAHAHAHAHA Silly BABOON'S
I became 'hooked' the very first time I used a controller to move objects on the screen. I was 3 years old. I am now 30 and still play every day.
well.. i'm old enough and lately i've been guilty of being hooked to Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, God of War 3 and Yakuza 3. but i mean.. seriously, any new tech is an evil for that matter. why not complain about twitter/facebook users? what about people who are on the phone 24/7? people who wouldn't stop smsing? people who browse 24/7? yup.. only games are evil!
better than being hooked on drugs.....
Out of all the things in the world you can become addicted to I hardly things games are that bad. I will actively encourage my kids to sit in my house play the right age related game in conjunction with school and sports clubs. At least I know where and what they are doing. The last thing I want is for them to any of the stuff I did when growing up. Besides… is Football addictive because it’s Fun? Can people be addicted to Movies? Can your 13 year old daughter get pregnant while playing Hanna Montanna? @ C-R-E-A-M Is that really a problem? Who am I to judge another person by my values? Somebody can watch TV all night; however do they have a problem? Are they causing harm to others? We all have very different lives. I have a wife and a young baby. Many people would consider me to have very little of a social life, but I think my life is enriched and wonderful. I’m not trying to belittle your post, I ‘m just trying to highlight another perspective.
Guysicantstopshakingineedanoth erhit Seriously it drives me mental when they call it an "addiction". It isn't a drug, theres no physical dependence, you don't go through withdrawals if you stop playing. I suggest these people read up on what an actual addiction is. In fact from looking at the wiki, they consider stuff like compulsive gambling as a impulse control disorder, and being unable to control your computer/gaming habits would fall under that same category. They explicitly say that it is *not* the same as an addiction. Maybe I'm arguing over something very small here but I'm sick to death of writers exaggerating and being melodramatic about it.
Ugly Person = Facially Challenged Impulse control disorder = Addiction
...it's your parents fault. Yes that's a broad statement but that's who's suppose to be raising children, the parents.
Nope, impulse control disorder != addiction. From wikipedia: "However, such disorders are classified by the American Psychological Association as impulse control disorders and therefore not as addictions." http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Off course games are addictive , they should be otherwise we wont be playing them. Kids 'hooked' on games , never seen such a thing in my life.
OMG... you're still 13? did i really offend you that badly? come back when you learn how to talk socially.. and when you learn to press the "Reply" button at the right place, ok?
OK, but my point was that actually that not everybody is the same. To you, pu**y is important, but to another individual it is not. You have certain values about what you believe constitutes a reasonable way in which to lead you life. You can’t help or change this because you have been socialized from a very young age. You have been influence by your parent or peers. Your environment has affected and shaped you. This process has been different for everybody. The person might have tried a number of things and found that video games are more enjoyable than other activities and therefore builds a life around said actively. Is he hurting anyone? Does he still enjoy gaming? It’s the same for all activities. It what makes us all different… This is why Nix has disagreed with you in a slightly different way.
They should probably replace "Becoming," with "Are," then find out why I'm strung out like French whore towards them. Don't break the addiction.
I have no problem wiv what u said,i just asked u a simple question.ur contradicting ur self.
lol.. C-R-E-A-M.. what's with you and pressing the wrong "Reply" button??? to answer your question, no i'm not a virgin or a gay! and i hope you're not 13 either because right now you sound like one.
Hooked on PLAYING 'AAA' GAMES on the 'PS3'!!! ;-P + Hooked on CHATTING SH!T ALL DAY on the 'xBotched 360'!!! ;-D
People need to learn and just shove their kids outside , give them a football/bike/racquet , whatever and just put them outside to play.
Well they're late to the party
Rather kids hooked on games then hooked on drugs eh?
being hooked on anything isnt good.
Best kind of addiction. I bought PlayStation when I quited smoking, and 12 years later I`m not sorry one bit. Social life? Got married, got kid, bought a house and new car in meantime. Guess that`s normal social life. So, yeah, call me addict.
It's highly addictive. My mom was addicted to Atari and Nintendo back when I was still in the womb and I ended up being born with the addiction. My kids will probably be born with this addiction. I'll never quit gaming.
of course it can be a bad thing. you people are so damn clueless. there are different levels of addiction. do you need any more obvious details, or do you have it from here? why does everyone have to defend gaming to the point of blind fanboyism?
Why do people have to attack gaming with their blind ignorance?
"I can't understand what video games are but there are millions of kids who do with parents who don't understand either, so I'm going to make myself sound informed and write a massive four page article out of my ass, making it seem that games are WORSE than addictive drugs because my career is hanging by a thread and I have absolutely nothing worthwhile to add to society." I can understand why they went with the other headline. Seriously history just repeats, every older generation has had problems with new technology. I can't wait for ours to be in power. Less work, more games...
If you're that concerned about it make them go outside. They are children, you hold the power.
It's true. Kids don't know self control. No one's fault but the parents for not teaching it to them. They just give them internet and video games so they'll shut up. No such thing as a real parent anymore, kids mostly raise themselves and they have no idea how to do it, that's why every 12 year old girl is a drunk pot smoking slutbag, and every 12 year old boy is a 250 pound WoW addict.
if ur a parent then its ur own fault for ur childs addiction. and if you dont do quality time with ur child aswell
with so many kids that go missing every year I would have to say that being addicting to games is not as bad as it sounds. At least they are safe being inside playing games, but if my kid ever started breaking things because I told him to stop playing , I would take his computer and smash it into pieces and tell him if he wants another one to get a job and buy it himself
What if he takes a sledgehammer to your head when you're asleep? XD
It honestly bugs me when people only play online, like, in MW 2. :| All of my friends play online, and no other game. There's a thing called single player. -_- People playing online too much = The reason for short campaigns. >:[
Gotta teach them from young, after a certain age they take control more and more. No you do not have completle control until they hit age 18.
