NPD Numbers: March Wasn't Sega's Month

As it's been reported since Thursday's NPD numbers were released, March was a big month for PS3 software sales. God of War III dominated the chart selling over 1 million copies in two weeks and was 1 of 7 titles for the PS3 to make the top 20.

Two other notable titles that were also released in March for the PS3 failed to break the 100k mark. Those are Sega's Resonance of Fate for the PS360 and the PS3 exclusive Yakuza 3.

And yet Sega blames the gamers for not buying their games. USE YOUR BRAIN GOD DAMN IT! Only the most hardcore of fans will buy your games if you don't advertise or if you release it on the same day as those big mammoth titles.

You can't blame anyone except Sega. They release it in an already packed month with blockbusters like GOW3, BFBC2, FF13. Then, they don't advertise the game AT ALL. Plus, it's a 2 year old game. Come on, how many people would be excited for that? What I really want is Shenmue [email protected] 3!

It looks great but the animation are stiff and the fighting feels old. After playing Batman AA Yakuza's combat just doesn't stack up. I wish they would have put more time into that instead of just copy and pasting the old clunky battle system.

Don't forget how they removed content from yakuza 3 and didn't say a word until people wondered why trophies were missing.

Square Enix also had two flops, Supreme Commander 2 and Just Cause 2 and Just Cause 2 was very heavily promoted. At least they have FFXIII to make up for it.

Just Cause 2 was only out a week and a few days for March! Released on the 23rd. That game is crazy and huge. It takes you an hour to fly across the map in the fastest military jet!

I can hardly get anything done. Always end up in a fight or dieing during a stunt on my way to a mission. I just can't pass up a mid air collision or a September 11th!

Just Cause 2 is a great game though. Definitley more enjoyable than overhyped crap like GTAIV IMO. I wasn't sure at first but I bought it and am loving it. The graphics are also fantastic considering that it's open world and the size of the entire explorable area. I'd say it's the best looking open world game yet. Sure the voice acting is corny and it's plot is cliché but it still is nice having a game that focuses on barbaric nonsensical mindless fun once in a while.

It's only been out for a few days, but I hope this doesn't flop. It doesn't deserve to considering how much effort was put into it.

SpoonyRedMage3105d ago

Yer, I'm not disputing the quality, Just Cause 2 is awesome and it was only out for 12 Days but neither version seems to have broken 100K.

Sega made some great games so far this year but the boneheaded decisions in the release dates really screwed everything up.I'm getting Alpha Protocol in June but sad to see Resonancee of Fate fall by the wayside

SEGA can't say sh1t...they released 2 niche titles between the weeks BFBC2, GOWIII and FFXIII came out. 3 of this years biggest titles if not this gen. What do they expect. They didn't even market the games. Plus up against Pokemon Heart Gold /Soul Silver....they didn't stand a chance. Which is a shame because they're great games. Would have faired better this month or even june/july during the games drought.
