Dead Space 2 to be just as scary and gruesome as the first

Which game? Really, Silent Hill series is the only true creepy games I have played since RE3. (and the Penumbra series) I guess no game is "scary" but creepy and off putting are the closest things a video game (or movie) can really portray I guess.

The problem with Dead Space is your guy is a walking tank. Hard to be scared when your character can kill anything coming at him with ease. Anyway, every has different taste. I just didn't think Dead Space was scary at all. Not even in the farthest stretch of the word.

So it's not going to be scary at all and it's just going to be full of the same cheap shock tactics like the same monster jumping out at you 50000 times, and bodies laying on the ground that are obviously going to jump up at you when you walk near them? Great...

That game was way too predictable. They need to put more psychological scares in rather than just "OOO ANOTHER MONSTER JUMPING AT YOU, AHH SO SCARY!"

Indeed, it was really scary, and it was gorgeous. Cant say that about most games, let alone third party titles. I didn't get part 1 day one, but Visceral games got my money day one when it comes to this title.

It was intense playing on hard. Given the end of the last game, Visceral has an almost clean slate (if they choose) for a new lead character. That said, I hope they don't go too crazy. Playing "Dead Space: Marine" isn't going to go over well with me.

How can you not be scared with those deadly creatures just popping out of nowhere on you?! Those little babies were a little over the top, but other then that the creatures were really believable. I played it in the dark, with my 5.1 bose system, and you can hear creatures literally breathing down your neck. This game is gonna be sick, dont worry about it, just chillax.

I found it better to play it in the dark with headphones. You hear EVERYTHING that way. Maybe not surround, but every noise you heard would make you spin your character around :)

yeah honestly only the first hour was jumpy, then u fought same old monsters over and over, bosses were some of worst in gaming (stand still shoot till it dies)

i dont even get scared in games, only game that ever made me do that is nightmare creatures in the first 5 mins lmao, monster broke thru a generic crate lol tthen the game sucked.

well i dnt get scared by movies either or anything thats not real sooo thats prbly y i didnt care that RE5 wasnt scary because none of them scared me lol.

hope this game is better tho, :)

not only is it one of my favorite games, but it's my NO 1 new IP this gen.

I loved the first game and it's right in there with my half life 2 and Halo CE and Kotor.

This is really good news. I hope they have taken onboard the feedback from the gamers who supported this game with their purchase and build on that, don't go making us another RES5 because we Don't want it and thats not what we are asking for !!.

Dead Space has the best sound effects of any survival horror game, hands down. It adds a lot to the claustrophobic atmosphere.

Hopefully they don't make it too much action oriented and forget about suspense, which is more important.

Theres alot of times in the game when it would throw everything at you. An example would be when you explore the military ship which has crashed in to the ishumora. Towards the end (?) theres a room which gets locked down and around 30 enemies attack at the same time.
OT: The first game was my first plat, really good horror game. Became my new survival horror game of choice (Rip RE). The sound is what got to you with this game ( on a good setup) added with the emersion of no hud you got sucked in to the game.

ur right that part did have alot of enemies, but that was one of the only times, aand it wasnt scary at all, i just stasised the tougher ones, shot the legs off and well, i dunno was easy even on hard but thats just me. u want hard play desperate escape mission on re5 on veteran. not scary but dang it was tuff lol.

my prob with DS was also that all the weapons were garbage!!!!! maybe because i was playing on hard but the only weapon i cud kill anything with was the first gun, otherwise the only other sorta usefull weapon was the line-gun.

and DEAR GOODNESS the melee is the worst in almost anygaame ever, its useless except for breaking crates

well to each his own, I am not going to say your wrong but I disagree on some points.

when I first played dead space I stuck it straight on hard cos I had already heard that some may find it short other wise.

I love all the weapons and found most of them to be just as good as the cutter you start with. some weapons were good for some enemies while some were better for others. The military gun was great when you were in a small room yet surrounded. The plasma mine that floats up into the air and shoots out the laser beams was very good when you had a heap of them call coming straight at you.

The Air gun or whatever it was, perfect for mashing up those freaky babies, just one blast up close would shred all the tentacles off them.

The only weapon I didn't use much and didn't feel the need to use was the saw blade.

the melee was just fine, I don't think it was designed for you to run up to them and having a boxing match with them. when I was low and ammo i would focus on just cutting off the legs, or A leg and once they were on the floor stomp my way through - and I loved it just as much as shooting everything.

There is plenty of other sections in the game where a lot enemies would come out and try to ambush you. Most of them happen during the second half of the game but there is a lot that you encounter.
One scene when you first find the marker and trying to dock it on the ship, lots of enemies would spawn all over the place and at different times when you move the marker. Any big open areas in the game had moments like this.

I found the atmosphere to be spot on in Dead Space. Didn't find it scary but it was still tense in some scenes and had some great pacing. Can't wait for the sequel.

If you didn't know they won an award for best sound effects in a game. The gameplay alone blows RE4 and RE5 out of the water. Even the story was great and original. DS2 is a first day buy for me.

Good to hear the horror atmosphere is still going to be intact. The news of a "more action type" worried me some.

Definitely going to get Dead Space 2. The 1st one was just awesome. One of the best new ips this gen.

In DS if you’re surrounded by enemies you can aim, shoot and move around to avoid attacks where in RE4 and RE5 you can’t move when aiming. And just button layout on DS makes for a better gaming experience than RE. I still like RE but lately it’s not living up to the hype.

Besides not being able to move while aiming and the better melee system in DS the controls for RE5 just seemed better to me.
