PSM on Redemption: 'The Greatest Multiplayer Lobby in the History of Videogames'

RockstarNetwork.net writes: "The title speaks volumes for Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. They claim in the article that the lobby is basically a "wild west MMORPG". The lobby is a fully playable version of the entire game that's populated by CPU characters and live gamers!"

masterpiece in the making?

LordMarius5557d ago (Edited 5557d ago )

oh I hope so

I just wished the Box Art was better, this will surely not be in front of my collection

deadreckoning6665557d ago (Edited 5557d ago )

I got this issue in the mail today, it looks good, but I don't think its for me. I'll wait till Agent, which is bound to have a multiplayer suite thats more suited to my taste. Too bad it's not coming out this year :(

@swiftshot93- Tru dat, the game looks amazing. Just as good as Uncharted 2 IMO. Don't know how Rockstar managed to pull that level of realism in the graphics in an open world game/multiplat, but they did. It looks like the PS3 was the lead console.

@Blaze- U got a point. The fact that you can set ur motivation is ridiculous lol. I expect the best console multiplayer franchise ever to have the best multiplayer lobby ever, so yea.

TOO PAWNED5557d ago

Come on Sony acquire take two

Canucks235557d ago

That looks like a regular ass lobby to me... I'm not seeing anything near what red dead has.

bjornbear5557d ago

so we can have players in single player world =O awesome! can't wait! =3

@ blaze

you had to bring in halo didn't you...wow i'm so...unimpressed =P that looks like a regular MP lobby

ChozenWoan5557d ago

No I'm not kidding, I'm asking out of honest intrigue. If someone has played this and Demon's Souls could they please compare the two for me.

JL5557d ago (Edited 5557d ago )

@Blaze
Actually that does absolutely nothing to refute what was said here. If you'll read the article (or at least the issue of the magazine--have it here beside me), they talk about what makes it so awesome is that it isn't just some generic list type lobby like every game does (which is exactly what you show there with Reach). What really makes RDR's lobby stand out is that it isn't some list like that. It's an actual world, where you're a character, moving around in an open environment. Where you can even do activities and whatnot. Then when you want to get into a "match", you just round up a posse and ride off into the sunset.

Honestly, when I read the magazine, it kinda sounded like Home to me. Seems like they've taken the idea of Home, dedicated it strictly to this game and made that into the lobby for their multiplayer portion. Sounds awesome actually and can't wait to get my hands on it to see what it's all about (and I don't even care about online play most of the time).

@Chozen above
No I wouldn't say it's like Demon's Souls. Of course never played this game, but I read the full preview in this magazine and that's not what it sounds like. Like I stated above, they really make it sound like the lobby is basically just a dedicated Home-type "lobby".

Lionsguard5557d ago

Comparing an open MMO-like world lobby to your run of the mill lobby done a million times over? WOW I cant wait for REACH! /s

ChozenWoan5557d ago

At first I thought that it was just a Home type lobby, but then my mind started thinking of what would be better than a Home type lobby... Demon's Souls.

Ohh well, still sounds pretty cool. I do wish Home was more dedicated towards being a Game Lobby.

DMason5557d ago

I sure hope this is a masterpiece in the making, but I have my doubts and I'll explain why. Multiple podcasts and previews that I have read said that this game has incredible potential, but the build they played at PAX had A LOT of bugs in it. With only a month until launch, I hope to god that they can iron out those bugs. I really wish they would push this game back until fall because I really think that the extra polish could push it into masterpiece territory. As much as I hate a delayed game, it makes for a better product. Batman: AA is a prime example of a delayed, better product.

Some say that it has the same exact gunplay as GTA. I'm ok with that, but I know there's quite a few people that were turned off by it.

This is the game I'm looking forward to most this year, and I really hope that R* got their sh*t together and worked through the problems they had internally.

Simon_Brezhnev5557d ago (Edited 5557d ago )

Thats typical of blaze always being a smart ass. He already thinks halo has the best multiplayer across all platforms.

WildArmed5556d ago

kinda like demons souls but better!
HOT DAMN!
Can't wait.

shadow27975556d ago

Sweet. It sounds like a much improved version of what Burnout Paradise did.

More games should do this. I loved Burnout's lobby-less system, and now story game is doing it. Rock on, Rockstar.

WildArmed5556d ago

I just remembered..
don't modnation also have a 'live' lobby..
I dunno if you guys played the beta or not, but i remember random people roaming around when i popped it open

Speed-Racer5557d ago

It looks pretty decent, hope they can live up to their word

IllusionRSN5557d ago

I think this game will be a GOTY contender for sure.

swiftshot935557d ago

there isnt a better looking open world game

Speed-Racer5557d ago

If Gran Turismo doesnt drop this year, I think this looks like a GOTY contender.

IllusionRSN5557d ago

I "LOL" at Gran Turismo anymore, RDR FTW!

Kakihara5557d ago

If this is true consider my mind felated. This is one of those little hope against hope things I had in the back of my mind for this game. You know when you think to yourself, 'Wouldn't it be awesome if they did this??? I know they won't but it'd be so cool if they did'.

With the size of the map and all this could turn out to be awesome. Wandering the wilderness with a small band of others only occasionally coming across another group of bandits that just happen to be real human players.

Speed-Racer5557d ago

Reminds me of FUEL...except its shooting

cheese5557d ago

Fuel is an excellent comparison. I really could not care less about the tale they are trying to spin here, just that I want to ride through every inch of its world. Fuel unfortunately tacked a typical racing game on an atypical premise; that Red Dead is full of dynamic encounters seems to mean that they've anticipated that some might never even touch the main quest.

Hope to see you guys on PSN :D

I hope it's a remake of the 1st game. But it's probably just the PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption 2

OtterX5d ago

I hope a PS5 upgrade launches on the same day as announcement & it costs no more than $10. I already bought the Ultimate Edition once, they got good money from me.

I stopped playing completely 2 years ago until they did 60fps. I really didn't expect it would take this long & I didn't want to start completely over on PC.

GamerRN4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I've been waiting for 60 to finish the game myself

OtterX4d ago

hopefully we'll know by the end of tomorrow! *crosses fingers*

dmonee5d ago

My wish is that its optimized for current gen machines, with some sort of story expansion. Undead nightmare 2! My 2nd wish is that it just shadow drops on the day of the announcement!.

Lionsguard5d ago

Give me my RDR2 Undead Nightmare already.

PS5/Pro/Switch 2 version of RDR2 seems most likely. I’d love a RDR3 but that seems years away

Cacabunga7d ago

Id be happy for just a 60fps patch

OmegaSoldati6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Agreed, but at the same time RD2 came out in 2018. Could it be a remake of Red Dead 1?

Spoiler:

Marston died in the end of Red Dead and Red Dead 2 is set before that. Im curious now. What news could it be?

mkis0076d ago

I'm pretty sure the next game will be another prequel as the story really has no where to go as far as being a western after red dead redemption. The next game will end with the ferry boat incident.

Profchaos7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Their contracts are iron clas if they leak anything legit they are threatened with immense legal action.

My hopes for what this is are minimal its probably a meet and greet with the cast

I dont see why they would be involved in a upgraded version of rdr2 when the dialogue hasn't changed

thorstein6d ago

He seems to have been cleared to do this as he purposely picked up the game, streamed it, and made the announcement.

Personally, I'd rank Pacific Rift in my top 10. It's the best of the series.

badz149111d ago

We desperately need Motorstorm back. Evolution is no more though and this makes me sad

Cacabunga111d ago

Sly Thieves in Time
Stay the Party
Portal 2
Dj Hero
Demon’s Souls
God of war Ascension

rudero110d ago

2 of those games got railed through the “gaming media” during release.
Sly and god of war.
Both of which were fantastic games.

Cacabunga110d ago

Ascension is VERY underrated. Remake please!

Venoxn4g111d ago

Decent list.. I would put the Castle Crashers as well..

1Victor111d ago

Yes it’s a decent list of popular games with a heavy hand on FPS and no Warhawk or Starhawk 2 of the best games (not sale wise) on ps3.
I would buy a Starhawk again even if it didn’t have a graphics upgrade hell I would even take a new one with micro transactions 😱🤯

Profchaos111d ago

I've noticed a recent nostalgia for the PS3 and I don't get it for me it's been my least favourite generation to date and I've been gaming since the NES I just feel like the ambition of the developers outweighed the capabilities of the consoles so I remember lots of games running in the lower end of 20fps range and I remember for the first time ever actually disliking the duelshock 3 and it's curved triggers

Sure there were some standouts and great games but that's the only gen I switched entirely to PC gaming

darthv72111d ago

Maybe the recent nostalgia is because pretty much all of its games are trapped on that console. People want to play them on more modern hardware. hell... if XB can do it then so can Sony. there are competent emulators out there that can run on PS4/5 hardware but Sony just wont let them become official... why is that?

If we are talking least favorite generations (personally) then this one is certainly mine. i had more fun playing 8th, 7th and 6th gen stuff than 9th. And it isnt like i dont have access to do so... the heavy hitters just havent shown up anywhere close to those previous gens. The few here and there just doesnt cut it compared to the likes of constant good games that showed up in 6th, 7th and 8th gen. hell.... I'll even throw in 5th gen has been better than this one.

Profchaos111d ago

I tend to agree there's lots of amazing games locked to the PS3 like GTA IV or mgs 4 but then again my issue was never with the content the PS3 had but rather it's performance many other people have said the PS3 felt like it couldn't walk and chew bubblegum at the same time using PSN and downloading a game could take a few minutes to just start a download.

I typically don't worry all that much about performance I've never had a problem with games that run at 30 but games like crysis 2, Skyrim are good examples where the performance was so unstable you would never even touch the top of the frame cap and the hitching was worse than say Goldeneye on the n64

I think emulation is more than possible on the ps5 though it's just that Sony has no incentive to rush it's development it will likely be a ps6 feature if it ever happens at all.

But yeah the 9th gen has been so bad from a content perspective thats a given I see constant articles where people are frequently expressing their disappointment around the industry as a whole right now to much live service competition that sinks longstanding studios and consumes Devs time less ambition and games cost so much to make they have to play it safe.

The 5th gen was easily better than the 9th we had some all time greats crash, Spyro, Tony hawk, mgs, Mario,64, Goldeneye, Mario kart 64 the list goes on. The 5th gave us a new dimension and I remember being blown away by how much more open gaming had become the 4th gen with the mega drive and SNES was great and very easy to still revisit some of the greatest games of all time came out like earthbound, secret of mana, sonic , Mario world etc but saving our games was still not a standard function or a given so gaming was still evolving but it was very impressive to see some of the tricks Devs used like dithering to give us new experiences those earlier gens limitations bred innovation.

Michiel1989110d ago

if XB can do it so can sony? I didn't know xbox had a cell processor in their older consoles, that's the reason why ps3 was so cool, but also the reason why games are hostage there and no, xbox did nothing similar even though their backward compatbility is good, they always had a similar architecture to their consoles.

darthv72110d ago

Sorry Michael... I guess you missed the obvious part where i said there are already emulators out that do this. and that is what XB is doing... emulators for OG and 360 games. Its why the full slate is not BC on XBO/Series.

coolbeans111d ago (Edited 111d ago )

The list is missing Folklore.
