Most users happy with Windows 7

Users of Microsoft's Windows 7 are generally "very satisfied" with the new operating system.

A report from Forrester Research said that most of the great unwashed know the product is there if they want it. Writing in its blog Forrester said a "strong majority" of US consumers knew about Windows 7 by the end of 2009. Microsoft released the operating system in October to favourable reviews and while punters still love Windows XP, Forrester said, particularly for their notebooks.

I haven't had any problems with it at all. But I'm not too computer savvy and basically use my system for internet, music, and word processing.

I actually like rain meter a lot, that looks too cluttered. If you know how to work rain meter, your desktop improves 10X.

Though I only have a simple understanding of rain meter.

Windows 7 is a lot faster than Win Vista. That's all that matters for me, plus there is rarely any freezing for me.

A worthy upgrade from the aging XP. Which i suppose is really what most people actually want, its never going to be perfect but as long as its better than the previous best efforts then its heading forward.

One could make a serious argument about why DOS>Vista.

I'm dual booting at the moment with Vista and 10.04... but at the way Vista is going I easily see myself being a 1.10 guy before long. I use Ubuntu as my main OS and Vista for programs I otherwise can run. Luckily I have the ur-quan masters running on Ubuntu.

I used the beta and thought that windows 7 was miles better than vista.
But still in my opinion windows xp > windows 7 > windows vista. That's just my opinion btw.

I absolutely hated Vista, and will admit that I believed that Microsoft couldn't really recover... but... damn, Windows 7 is great. There's a couple changes from XP that I am still having a bit of trouble getting used to (mostly related to the Aero), but overall I would call myself "very satisfied."

Guess I'm eating some humble pie now. Oh well, pie is pie. :D

Im one of the users who are happy with windows 7. It doesn't have revolutionary features, it is an efficient and convenient OS for the user. Its what Vista should have been.

After Vista? Hell yeah. In comparison to XP? It's UI and some tools are better, but performance-wise it's not noticeable.

You can change the views just like in older versions of windows. Personally, I've always preferred "details" view.

I have windows 7 installed since october without any problems so far. I wouldnt dream of going back to Windows XP now and I would rather set my computer on fire rather than go back to Vista.

They should give us the option to manually arrange icons though. Cause it PISSES me off.

That alone makes vista somehow better, i just upgraded because its the newer version thats all.

You mean on your desktop? It has the same functionality as Vista, but chances are you've got "auto-arrange" switched on.

Right click an empty area of the desktop -> View -> UNTICK "Auto Arrange Icons".
Hey presto, manually arranging them.

A lot better than XP and Vista. I loved XP, in the end, it was stable and worked with pretty much everything. Vista was disappointing, even after a long time it just didn't make the change from XP worthwhile.

Win7 on the other hand is a big step up and is compatible with pretty much every game I've tried. No doubt I'll have some troubles along the way as I own over 500 games on the pc, but it's doing well so far.

The best features of Windows 7 are stolen directly from Mac OSX and they stabilized their operating system. It's pretty funny to see those Windows 7 commercials where they're promoting features that have been on Mac for a long time. Typical MS and their me too attitude in terms of features.

While I agree about some of the features (at least from what I've seen in that link you posted) being used (or stolen) in win7, it's fair to say that most os's steal features from one another through the years. I bet Apple have done it as well, but that doesn't really concern me tbh. I'm just glad to have an os upgrade that isn't a load of sh*t, after using xp for so long I thought MS were never going to have another os worth upgrading to. Vista was horrible imo.

And yes, that chick is annoying, but she'd still get it.

Oh, I totally agree. If I still had a PC then I'd definitely upgrade to 7 but since my Dell crapped out after only 3 years I then decided to switch to Apple mostly because of some real cool features and the amazing customer service. I really play games on my computer with the exception of emulators and SCUMMVM and some point and click adventures. Hopefully Win7 turns out to be solid in terms of virus and invasion prevention which I always had problems with when I ran XP. I guess I deserve the right to be somewhat bitter over MS's OS but 7 looks to be a step u which is always good for PC owners.

edit: and yes, vista is awful. I never ran it on my computer but my father has me fixing things all the time on it. I really can't stand it and glad I don't have to deal with it too often.

this is true, I am an IT Director and have deployed Win7 onto over 1200 desktops, and everyone is very much in line with its a huge improvement over xp and vista.

I was one the few that didn't have a problem with vista, but at the same time I'm not foolish enough to believe vista wasn't without it's faults. with that being said comparing my vista experience with my windows 7 experience? it doesn't compare.

I'm not so happy with the 64 bit version as I have had some crashes and it doesn't feel super snappy like the 32 bit version. Not too mention several trusted people have said don't over clock so much with the 64 bit version either. I about DETONATED when I heard that.

I'm not so happy with the 32bit version either as it doesn't make scrambled eggs and toast but it does go potty by it's self.

Seems like MS can make a good OS after several years of trying.

The amazing thing is MS spends about $10bn on R&D, more than twice Apple. In fact, its probably more than Apple and Google combined, what a waste of money. Compare the sheer number of great products from those two companies, whereas MS release me-too products which are mostly awful designs (Zune) or buggy and defective (360, Vista). The only decent technology I have seen from MS is the graphics card on the 360 way back in 2006, with its interesting use of an EDRAM chip

if they had released 7 after XP without Vista in between, people would be far less impressed with 7, since they wouldn't have that mess of a vista to contrast to, only XP with SP3 which is actually damn good
