Remedy 'too small' to make Alan Wake PC

CVG: Microsoft announced that the PC version of Alan Wake had been ditched back in February - and would-be customers were left more than a little upset.

Microsoft said the decision was made because 'the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360'.

However, Alan Wake developer Remedy has revealed another factor - the fact it is too small to work on two major projects at once.

Yeah yeah and I bet a nice big fat cheque from MS had nothing to do with dumping the platform that gave them life. Seriously stop telling us bull Remedy and just come out and admit it, you sold out end of story.

BeaArthur3311d ago

Despite what you might think, not everything is a conspiracy theory.

Serg3311d ago

Developers and publishers have shattered every shred of trust there was left, not all of them, but I for one do not believe a word any of them say.

Raf1k13311d ago (Edited 3311d ago )

It took them 4+ years to realise?

edit: If it's simply a case of not being able to create both simultaneously then they could easily continue working on the PC version once they're done with the 360 version.

JsonHenry3311d ago

They could do it in the past, now all of a sudden they can't? RIGHT....

IdleLeeSiuLung3311d ago

"Developers and publishers have shattered every shred of trust there was left, not all of them, but I for one do not believe a word any of them say."

Some bad apples don't talk for the whole industry

mrv3213311d ago

Isn't the 360 tech quite comparable to that of a PC... while I fully understand their decision it would be cool of them to work on the PC version post 360 launch.

captain-obvious3311d ago

wasn't "too small" when there used to be a PC vision
lol

dont try to pull this one on us remedy
lets see how many platforms Max Payne is on

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
"Windows, Xbox, PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, Mac OS"

Max Payne 2
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
"Microsoft Windows, Xbox, PlayStation 2"

you dont seem "small" to me Remedy

XRider3311d ago (Edited 3311d ago )

You hear alot of "MS writes cheque" as if Nintendo or Sony are broke and don't write em themselves. How do you think Sony took Sega out? $$$ What is funny is most of the time Sony, MS and Nintendo don't write any. It just happens to be somthing fanboys fall back on when they have nowhere else to go.

Christopher3311d ago (Edited 3311d ago )

Total BS.

They didn't need to ditch it at all, only delay the PC release so that the team could focus on the 360.

Edit: I love the people who disagree that the PC version could have been worked on after the release of the 360 version. Do you guys really disagree that more gamers shouldn't have the opportunity to enjoy this game? Do you somehow think that they couldn't have worked on the PC release after the console release like many companies do already, AC2 being the most recent? Every game that is made a 360 or PS3 exclusive takes away another game for the PC gamers. All good games should be available on as many platforms as possible so that all gamers have a chance to play it, IMHO.

8thnightvolley3311d ago

u lot do rant a load of crap.. havnt u heard of games studios closing or game projects being cancelled all of a sudden because of cost and time ???.. u are saying "OH SO U WERE MAKING IT ALL OF A SUDDEN U CANT" yes !! that makes sense remedy is making a AAA titles and its a studio of freaking 50 !!!! ppl.. any average AAA studio takes up 100 plus employees at least and still work on only one console e.g naughty dog(ps3) so dont start ranting crap

if they decide to close of the pc version well tough luck its a business world we live in and the economical climate is nasty now so u gotta make hard and sensible cuts and from MS and remedy's stand point the biggest return they would get is the 360 FACT! so the pc can take the back seat for now... given this situation and financial contraints is only wise and logical to take this route ...

so i say forge ahead make it a 360 exclusive if time and money is a positive in the future then make the pc version.

SIMPLES.

"Yeah yeah and I bet a nice big fat cheque from MS had nothing to do with dumping the platform that gave them life. Seriously stop telling us bull Remedy and just come out and admit it, you sold out end of story."

That has got to be the dumbest statement so far this year, tell me, did Ninja Theory sell out with Heavenly sword? Or did insomniac sell out with Resistance and Racthet and clank? Anyone would think that only Sony are allowed exclusives.

I cant believe that people are still crying over it!!

sid4gamerfreak3311d ago

Shame I really wanted this game on the pc. oh well, ill get it for the 360...

DaffyD3311d ago

No you are wrong captain-obvious.

Max Payne 1 & 2 were released those platforms, but Remedy did make only PC version of game. PS2 and X-box version of games were made by Rockstar (Vienna and Toronto) and Max Payne GBA version was done by Rockstar Leeds and Mac version was done by Macsoft.

Remedy is an small developer and in world scale it still is even they now have almost double amount of their employees from what they had when they did make Max Payne.

Montrealien3311d ago

You are refering to the PC right charmers? Becasue Max pain was on the Xbox and PC also, not only the PS2. Just saying.

sikbeta3311d ago

Something I'm thinking is, IF the PC and x360 architecture are Similar, why they don't Develop it for PC and then Port to the x360 like Valve does all the Time, just saying...

maxcer3311d ago

lol fanboys. so when MS gets games, its from a check payout but when PS3 gets game its because the developers love the system and choose to work with it. don't be so obtuse, it's all about making money not paying fan service to their favorite console.

Montrealien3310d ago

shh maxcer, you are making to much sense. That is frowned upon here on N4G.

HolyOrangeCows3310d ago

This is their latest BS excuse?

It's too late for this crap. A year ago, they blamed their publisher (MS) for shelving the PC version, and now their trying to make us believe it's for other reasons? Bull.

thewhoopimen3310d ago

hmmm... i seem to recall most 360 games being built on PC workstations... so wat's the trouble?

Motion3310d ago (Edited 3310d ago )

Its not quite like that. When a game suddenly gets canceled for its original systems, even after being shown running on said systems, then is announced as a 360 exclusive being supported by M$, thats when people assume that checks are being thrown around.

Like you said, Its all about making money. And some developers will sell out.

If all the gaming giants (sony, ms, nintendo) do this, name some games that sony or nintendo have made into exclusives after having already been shown and announced on other systems. I'm all about having exclusive games, 1st party or not, but don't buy out a multi-plat because you don't have your own games.

PopEmUp3310d ago (Edited 3310d ago )

why would nintendo or sony need to write a cheque when they have some of the industry best developers alongside them (owned) ie first and second party studios, that doesn't make sense would it? :P

"Microsoft said the decision was made because 'the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360"

Most compelling to Microsoft I guess...

Strikepackage Bravo3311d ago

me too, why on earth would I want to play a game sitting at my desk in front of my laptop?

PC gaming is lame, grow up and buy an HDTV already with both consoles. Geez who even owns desktop PCs anymore. PC gaming is for kids who still live out of their bedrooms.

Aphe3311d ago

I love how you tell him to grow up and then come out with -

'buy an HDTV already with both consoles. Geez who even owns desktop PCs anymore. PC gaming is for kids who still live out of their bedrooms. '

Yeah, you look really grown up, well done.

Christopher3311d ago

Or for college students who use their PC for school work as well. Surprisingly, #1 market for game sales is those 'kids' between the ages of 14 and 24, which primarily is comprised of kids who still live out of their bedrooms and college students who still live out of their dorm.

@Strikepackage Bravo

Good job assuming sh*t without knowing anything. I'll never get people like you, I mean what's the motivation behind making yourself look like an idiot.

AKS3311d ago

@ Strikepackage Bravo

Your post only demonstrates your total ignorance. I'm typing this response on a 50" Panasonic plasma (PZ800u) using a wireless keyboard. My PC, 360, and PS3 are all hooked up to the same 7.1 Marantz/ Polk home theater system via HDMI.

As for PC gaming being for kids...wow, surely you are joking. Spend 5 minutes listening to the vulgar microphone chatter on Halo 3 then listen to communication on the PC version of an online Valve game. The PC gaming community is significantly older and more mature. I enjoy all my gaming platforms, but what you are implying is nonsense.

sikbeta3311d ago

@Strike...

OMG! You Fvcking Serious? PC for kids? WTH are you talking about!?

I Play Games on my Laptop, why the fvck you say such a nonsense crap...

Unbelievable...

Strikepackage Bravo3310d ago

you know its true, you are the nerdy exceptions, but most grown ups don't want to come home from work, after sitting in front of a tiny screen all day and play a AAA game in front of yet another 17 inch computer screen.

Grown ups have home theaters, 5.1 surround and 50 inch HDTVs, that is the way to play 60 dollar AAA games. Not at a desk in a room in your moms house, get real. PC gaming is dead, it died when all the PC gamers grew up.

BYE3310d ago (Edited 3310d ago )

Who the f*ck said anything about living in mom's basement and playing on a 17" screen? That's probably your life cause you're the only one who keeps talking about it.

And btw you can plug PCs into beamers and HDTVs too. It's not the 90s you know.

The Wood3310d ago

I thought i was the only one

AKS3310d ago

@ The Wood

No, I put together a 7.1 setup with Polk's VM series speakers and a Marantz SR6003 receiver. It sounds incredible. Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, and Crysis sound great. The one that really surprised me was SOCOM Confrontation; not everyone liked the game, but the audio quality is beyond belief.

bviperz3310d ago

Sweet! Onkyo 707 here w/Energy speakers! Sounds like war during intense multiplayer battles, no matter the game!
