Bungie Reveals Halo: Reach's All-Encompassing Player Investment System

Why should multiplayer gamers have all the fun? That's part of Bungie's pitch for its ambitious "Player Investment" system being implemented into what could potentially be the studio's final Halo adventure, Halo: Reach.

The story is too old to be commented.

The Greatest Game Of All Time

FALLS 2010

The reply value is looking like limitless. Halo games on average are played for 5 years until the next game where players move on. Tell me which other games are there on consoles with replay value of 5 years.

This game is going to be spectacular, Bungie are hiding more secrets. With all this unvealed this could already be the game of the decade.
Customization to the max.

They are seriously pulling out all the stops with Halo: Reach, I will agree there. Seriously, I finally realize what Bungie has been doing the past 2 and a half years. Not only did they completely gut the Halo 3 engine, but they burned their own multiplayer experience down to the ground and built it back up.

I cannot wait to see what other goodies they have in store for us!

Day One.

I can't contain my excitement for this game. Bungie jam packs Multiplayer with so many awesome features and goodies.

GOTY 2010, I guarantee it: Single player promises to be open world (right?), and different.

And Multiplayer is untouchable. You don't have to like the game to realize Bungie's experience is top notch and that the features they put into their game are ahead of its time: I'm ashamed for games like MW2 that lack even half the features of Halo. Replay theaters need to exist for all MP games IMO.

The "reward system" existed on consoles this-gen as early as RSV6:2. While it's not new. Just remember that Bungie wasn't there first.

My hopes is that I can use my custom Spartan in SP as well! That would be wicked! I know the article already confirms it, but I want to see it with my own eyes.

Eamon3132d ago

Absolutely f*cking brilliant!

When I saw the title, I was nervous that they'd make a multiplayer system similar to call of duty where perks, weapons, item and abilities would only be available after leveling up.

But after reading, it's good to see Bungie not implementing this and sticking to their roots where every weapon and equipment is available to everyone at the start.

Can't wait for the BETA in May!

Greatest game of all time?

Just how far, exactly, does your ignorance run?

Biggest3132d ago

Well. . . DAMMIT! If they pull this off properly I'll be forced to buy a 360.

STICKzophrenic3132d ago

I was getting extremely worried when I started reading the article. I absolutely despise Call of Duty's leveling system and how good people get things that make them that much better and are matched up against people who haven't unlocked anything.

Then I got to this part:

"In Modern Warfare 2, as a player levels up, they unlock new abilities, new weapons and other features that fundamentally change the gameplay. Someone who is level one in Modern Warfare 2 can not equally square away against someone nearing the level cap. Bungie is being mindful to avoid that type of player inequality in Halo: Reach. Everything that players gain access to via credits in Halo: Reach are used solely to purchase helmets, shoulders, chests and other accessories that allow Halo: Reach players to create a Spartan who is uniquely them. These items are for visual changes only and do not affect the flow of gameplay."

I love Bungie. They're adding that extra depth that people like about CoD, but they're still the game balanced. Balance is one of the main reasons why Halo 3's MP is the one which I enjoy the most and at which I can actually be decent to good.

Bungie rocks.

This credit system isn't new to games but it works perfectly with Halo's style of gameplay. Also the fact that our created Spartan will be seen in SP cut scenes is absolutely fantastic.

This game continues to get better and better every time they release new info.

erathaol3132d ago

They already had a level of customization in Halo 3 with the different armor unlocks within the story and even before that with the emblems/color-schemes. Guess their going to go more in-dept into it so people can completely different from other players. Which is nice since everyone does like expressing who they are through how they look.

JonnyBadfinger3131d ago

Dont get me wrong i worship the Halo franchise and Bungie Studios... but when i saw jetpacks in multiplayer abit of that Halo fanatic in me died...

But i give them credit for trying it out... i guess this is what the beta is for, to see whether the fans approve... but sheer ammount of features they are pouring into this game is mid boggling... lol i gotta a feeling this game could possibly be on 2 discs with Campaign on Disc 1 and Multiplayer on Disc 2.

Though i am worried about them being over ambitious... in a way i wish they would save this game for the next generation of gaming consoles... cause i dont think we or consoles are ready for games like this. Same with Mass Effect, it came far too early the game has such a massive universe which is HUGE but due to current gaming limitations its kinda spoiled.

I am i the only person who is dissapointed with games these days... compared to games back in the 90s... todays games just dont make the cut... Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the greatest RPG i have ever played, Super Mario 64 my favourite Adventure game of all time and Golden Eye is responsible for my love of FPS games.

Games just have been dumbed down to levels where thinking is no longer required, and that KILLS me... seriously next time our watching someone play a videogame watch their face... it is the saddest thing i have ever seen.

Awesome. I like the idea of just being able to customize the character instead of throwing in a bunch of perks that would unbalance the game.

Natsu X FairyTail3132d ago

This sounds really good. Probably will be the 1st Halo game I invest time playing online.

TheCapto3132d ago

I like the idea that points can be earned in single player as well.

Noble Spartan3132d ago

PS3 users tell the truth it is time for you to move on to Xbox 360. This game sorry but its the truth will eclipse everything in gaming industry. In one full sweep.

Enjoy the only decent game you a*sholes have all year. Halo: Reach sounds great, but you zombies always talk about how it's game over for Sony and the PS3. Just STFU and be happy your getting it and stop worrying about other consoles.

kevinx10003132d ago (Edited 3132d ago )

"One problem. PS3 users aren't FPS crazy wh*res like you Bots."

true, they like watching movies better than playing games.

It's hard not to love these shooters since they're pretty much the best ever made.

Seriously dude? Enjoy the one game we have?! hahah, we sure will with the pretty much unlimited re-play value and constant updates, patches, events (like dbl exp weekends) thanks to continued support from one of the best devs ever..Have fun beating you games in 8 hours and trading them in for another hunk!

GOTY2010 has been locked up by Reach

lh_swe3131d ago

It'll sell more than anything before it but will it be the best game ever made, I don't think so. It'll be awesome, so awesome in fact this will be my return to the Halo franchise and it'll score a meta around 9.4-9.6.

And while this may win the 360 more sales this year it is not going to be the demise of the PS3.
