Why the 3DS Announcement May Not Doom The DSi XL

This Nintendo 3DS thing has really taken the internet gaming world by storm. Every site seems to be throwing out some crazy rumors they are hearing about what's in it… but beyond that, everybody seems confused as to why Nintendo would let this slip right before the launch of the DSi XL in North America. Well, Powrdup doesn't think Nintendo is worried about it, and here's why.

The story is too old to be commented.

3DS has two 4 inch screens at a higher resolution than the would be redundant to keep it around.

If Nintendo kept it around, they would have 4 different versions of the DS all on the market at the same time.

DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS.

This allows people to choose from a variety of consoles to meet their taste. Plus, we don't know how much 3DS will cost yet. Price is a very big factor when it comes to choosing models that aren't that different in the features they offer. Therefore, it could be redundant to some people but not everyone.

keep in mind that the 3ds won't be released until next year so dsi xl could still flourish. we will all bear witness to the lifespan of the dsi xl as time goes. until then cant wait for e3.

I wouldn't count on it. This isn't the first time Nintendo has announced their latest handheld earlier in the year, and then release it months later.

and get this, it was also playable at E3 prior to launch. Just like the new 3DS will be.

Coincidence? I think not.
