Nintendo became the latest guest at the 3D party last night, joining a medium recently popularized by James Cameron's Avatar film and ESPN's plans to support 3D television beginning this summer. The announcement that the company will be showing their latest mobile hardware at the annual E3 video game trade show was no surprise, rumors have been floating around for months if not years, but that it would be 3D, the clear inspiration for the device's tentative on-the-nose name, the Nintendo 3DS, caught the games press by surprise.
