Richard Garriot Now Owns a Piece of the Moon

In 2008, Garriot set off to become only the sixth pedestrian to ever go into space, when he docked with the International Space Station on October 12th. Amazingly enough, after spending twelve days in orbit, that doesn't seem to be his only contribution to interstellar history. It looks as if the British entrepreneur also owns the first ever piece of private property ON THE MOON!

I agree with qface. The moon, and all other planetary bodies for that matter, should be treated like a National Park. Space shouldn't be commercialized, we've already f'ed up Earth enough lets not start f'ing up the rest of the Universe.

Edit: Just read the article now. He doesn't own a piece of the moon, he owns a Russian spacecraft that landed on the moon in 1973 that stopped working after it landed. So he just owns a manmade object on the moon. Meh..
