Sales for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 stayed slim in Japan in new retail data from the region. The hardware did not rank any software titles in the top 10 game sales for the week.
Why am I not surprised? Xbox 360 never sells well in japan anyway. Btw, am I the only one who gets the tittle? (Xbox 360 sales SLIM in japan?....xbox 360, slim?)
the ps2 sales are around the same as 360 sales in japan lol!
Is this supposed to be surprising news? Japan has never liked the Xbox.
by the way, also the Playstation 3 sales dropped by 9%. http://n4g.com/NewsPending-...
Yup, PS3 sales dropped as much as the 360 sold lol... 9% sales is all it can muster against the PS3.
Is everywhere low on PS3's cause there bringing a new model out?
japan doesnt like foreigners which is obvious the only people who got the 360 are people who play dream c club which is an awesome game
you sure are big expert regarding Japan
We can also say same for Americans. Why they keep on bashing on PS3? Why 360 sells more in USA then anywhere else? Because it's American console and hate PS3 because it's Japanese. See i am also expert i speak from my a22 like you do. People in Japan and in EU don't like to jump from one bandwagon to another. When something has been around for long time and served us well (Playstation 15 years old) we are not going to ditch it and run towards this new product with name that means nothing to out ears. Nintendo and Playstation are brands, "x-box" not so much. That is why PS3 is more populat in EU an Japan, we know good stuff when we see it. O and did i mention kick ass games only available on PS3? best exclusives and IPs? Well now you know.
what great games does Xbox offer to Japaneses?
Last time I was there Ipods , Macdonalds and Coke' a' Cola were pretty popular and last time I looked they were American brands and they love Aussie Beef. :)
xbox 360 does not sell well in japan that surprises me as much as Sony being in third place with the most capable console on the market life's funny like that
If the date it launched doesn't mean anything to you, then technically the PS2 is kicking everyone's ass. Since the PS3 was made available worldwide, it's outsold the 360 for the past 3 years now. Don't feel bad for the PS3. Consumers have obviously spoken and the PS3 is the third fastest selling console in history, despite launching with a high price point. What does that tell you?
because it launched late, how the wii managed to outsell both the 360 and ps3 while launching just as late as the ps3 is a mystery for the ages. look what happens when you bring the truth to any thread thats sole purpose is to fanboy bash. The first part of my comment puts down the 360, but the second part throws some reality about the ps3 (which I own and truly enjoy) and the excuses and disagrees come a flying. N4G is an ugly place.
"surprises me as much as Sony being in third place with the most capable console on the market" That is no surprise. PS3 launched late. "how the wii managed to outsell both the 360 and ps3 while launching just as late as the ps3 is a mystery for the ages." It is not a mystery. It is very simple in fact. The Wii outsell both the 360 and the PS3 because it is cheaper. "look what happens when you bring the truth to any thread thats sole purpose is to fanboy bash. The first part of my comment puts down the 360, but the second part throws some reality about the ps3 (which I own and truly enjoy) and the excuses and disagrees come a flying." So you're saying you are even more of a fanboy than the rest of us, who usually only bash one console. You bash two consoles. "N4G is an ugly place." No. N4G is a great place to discuss all stuff gaming related.
that is evident by my comment history and also my bank records which show years worth of dedication to my love of gaming, this gen I game on the PS3, 360, and PC. All give great experiences. also the wii being the top selling console this gen is not just due to its price point, there is more to it than that. also totalps3fanboy, from your comment history i highly doubt that you could even recognize a non fanboy, so i think you should stick with your strengths and leave the harder stuff to the sdults
So you're saying that if the PS3, Wii and 360 were all the same price the Wii still would have come out on top? Let's be realistic here. Of course it was the Wii's price point that was the main selling features.
what I am saying is that this is reality of this gen. So I have chosen to limit my comments to reality. The gamecube was on the market for nearly 5 years and sold over 27 million consoles. the wii has been on the market for near 3 1/2 years and has sold over 67 million consoles. Where did those nearly 40 million extra people come from? The wii convinced non gamers to buy a gaming console. Price was a factor but not the only factor, the wii caught peoples imaginations. Hell there is an old folks home down the block from me that purchased wiis to help with Alzheimer patients. If all three consoles were the same price point why would those 40 million extra people choose a ps3 or 360, when they did not choose the gamecube, ps2, or xbox the previous gen. I realize I'm making sweeping generalizations about the "40 million", but its an interesting number and one I would love to see a demographic breakdown of. Both sony and MS would have loved to have a increase of 40 million gamers attached to their console. surely some of that 40 million have gone on to purchase another console. What I am trying to get across is that nintendo widened the net of the traditional gamer. Someones grandma is now a gamer and it wasnt MS or Sony that pulled that off. Even though wii was cheaper what would make those folks who never gamed before wanna fork over that much money for a a video game console.
No rpg's lately on the 360, rpg's and niche titles are the only things japan cares about. They ignore the western stuff, as if its infested with a nasty disease, and face it, the 360 is mostly western. Thank god the EU and US markets are the biggest ones in the world, we would miss so many great games if Japan was the n1 games market. You can think about it any way you want, but if gaming wasnt popular in the west, then there would be no Halo, no God of war, no Grand theft auto etch. They go after titles like super gowza tenshoukaiden robot war (yeah i made that up, but check the Japanese sales charts and you know what i mean), and titles like Dragon quest. The Japanese arent exactly going hot for games like Battlefield2, killzone 2 or God of war either. I can imagine that japanese people wonder why titles like super gowza tenshoukaiden robot war dont sell in the west, and why we buy Grand theft auto instead. Thats a major face palm.
maybe they dont like the fact that 360 only does shooters all the time while the ps3 only does everything :P
i feel as though perhaps ms should drop japan and focus heavily on the other 2 markets, unless natal comes through i just don't think a few rpgs will do much specially when those come out on the other platforms at a much later date and still sell more. i mean i don't mean to sound like a fanboy but i mean.. what else can be done? just think about it, if Sony wanted to they could easily put this fight in japan to rest. By simply doing what ms does with its 3rd party relations and just stay buying time exclusivity. they in my opinion are lucky Sony isn't investing money and time in such a strategy or at-least on a large scale like ms is.
The 360 got more rpg's then shooters...... Gears and Halo, thats it woopiedoo. Meanwhile the ps3 got Resistance, UC2 and KZ2. And MS doesnt buy exclusivity, most devs who develop games exclusive for the 360 are former pc developers, they simply feel more at home with the 360, because a lot of 360 gamers are former pc gamers. So they feel the 360 is their home base, and got the biggest customer base for the games they create. @below Most of those are on ps3 too.
all those games cod, doom, crysis, l4d, halo, gears, metro, same bullsh!t, different name
As did Resistance and Killzone. It's actually JRPGs that aren't selling good in any region. FFXIII finally broke the loop, but a lot of JRPGs have come before and fallen flat sales-wise. They like more modern genres, just like everyone else nowadays.
You might say that because some shooting games have RPG elements, but doesn't take out the fact that is first a for most a shooting game, there are way-way more FPSs than RPGs on the 360!!!!!
Xbox 360 Fanboys get owned by Factual Evidence. That is why the PS3 Fanboys are annoying, because they bring the factual evidence.
LoL! The look on that guys face is PRICELESS. He's probably pissed because he works on a hourly + commission basis and he's getting jipped on his commission! (well, I hope he's at least getting an hourly wage!)
Flopbox: Just stick a fork in it. :)
bah old news. I read the headlines as "Xbox 360 slim in Japan" and then I saw the downward arrow.
japanese don't care about the 360, simply because they don't like fps. the 360 is a console full of fps. they find those type of games boring. to be honest, i can't really blame them because i find those game boring as well. the japanese likes fighting games and rpgs.
Again, 360 got halo and gears. Ps3 got KZ2, UC2 and Resistance. Wheres all those 360 shooters you mentioned? The only thing the 360 doesnt have, is crappy japanese niche titles, and those are exactly what does so well in japan. For example, Koei games sell like madness in Japan, and they mostly do ps3 games. Not to mention Bandai, that merged with Namco, 99% of bandai franchises go to the ps3, and theres a new bandai title in the japanese top 10 list, almost every week. In the west we consider 99% of koei and bandai stuff to be shovelware, in Japan however its the hottest stuff there is, and thats what the 360 lacks in Japan.
Software is not the reason why 360 sales slim in Japan. It already has a lot of rpgs(lost odyssey, blue dragon, tales of vesperia...) They simply hate RROD and noise.
The xbox has its fair share of JRPGs, RPGs just like any other system out there and i think the Japanese not liking American products seems to be a problem over there
Well a quick look at GameStop's website shows 40something more shooters being available for the 360 than the PS3. huh.
it only does mediocre fps (halo, gears, fable, halo, gears, fable)
Fable is a shooter?
but it sure is boring
Japs have taste in consoles. Jump Out Play B3yond MOVE over LAGTAL
Like it or Not.it is the FPS Console.
Applies perfectly in this sad scenario
really? cmon now you and i both know they are no different from the other two, and i dont care if most developers ill tell you that they are comfortable with a certain platform because of its architecture. Not to disrespect you in any way here fox, but that makes no sense specially when these same developers know what crowds their trying to sell their products to. A market that, to be honest has been a bit hostile to ms in general? And you want to sit there in front of your computer and try to convince me and everyone else here, that it has nothing to do with exclusivity deals and such? That its all down to platform preference based on old familiar pc architecture? in a market that's not thinking the same if anything the opposite? i mean if that were the case then why was final fantasy 13 exclusive in japan to the ps3 userbase? squarenix could have said no to Sony and go multiplatform over there just as they did over here in the u.s. also these exclusives generally over a small period of time still migrate other platforms and somehow despite the game being 6 to 8 months old sell better. But than again why is that? and does that have anything to do with the architecture of a certain platform? or simply money? hm? the fact is ms went out aggressive, bought out a few time exclusive deals with some of the premier rpg giants most notably squarenix and namco. And to be fair the strategy gave its share of positives, but even now that's not the case anymore. i mean more rpgs as of this writing are releasing either on date with their 360 counter parts or being considered as an exclusive ip to the ps3 platform, at least in japan that is.
I honestly don't think Microsoft cares if it sells in Japan. That's sad for a business, but they realize they can't compete in a country that is great at recognizing (and creating) the best hardware components in the world. So why bother? I'm not supporting that take if that's how they see it, but it is true that their sales are significantly better in other countries. And the fact that their sales are down from last year attests to the established ownership already owning a console, and a more informed consumer realizing the potential to own a blu-ray player along with their gaming console. For those who have a more casual interest in gaming, the blu-ray capacity takes full precedence. This isn't damage control- it should be obvious that the 360 doesn't sell as well in Japan. And it should be obvious that the people who are just now buying consoles seem to prefer the PS3. -Proud 360 owner.
heres the deal, stop talking crap about the 360, its competition get over it! just play your games! the thing i cant stand though is misleading information, the 360 had a 10 million lead on the ps3 before it came out, its down to like 3-4 million, so ps3 is acctually selling more. what i dont like is people coming here bashing the 360 like animals!
but even than i sometimes feel certain things need to be put in perspective, know what i mean? this whole console war isn't going to end anytime soon, so i don't even bother wishing for it to end. i know this doesn't make much sense but these wars, work just like the real ones politics use for propaganda purposes. it keeps people in the loop and into forums and sites, i know..it doesn't make much sense but ive come to notice and accept this for some time now. its just a commodity, a never ending debate.
corruption disgust me the most, this industry needs talent not gimmick, Don't talk that business crap here, this is N4G not news for businessmen or cnn.
So why would anybody be surprised?
i dont think a single xbox title has ever cracked the top ten besides star ocean it lucky if one breaks the top 50
OMG 360 isn't doing well in Japan?!! QUICK!! Someone email this news to news.punchjump.com so they can get this story out to the masses.
Fortunately for Microsoft, Japan is a very small part of the gaming world. North America which is the number 1 gaming market in the world is what counts and Microsoft easily has that one.
really? you got any facts to back that up?
No sh*t, Sherlock. This is not news, 360 has always struggled in Japan. Thanks for stating the obvious.
