Couple left sickened over child porn sent to Xbox

A HORRIFIED Dublin couple who had child pornography sent to their Xbox while online are demanding to know how the incident happened.

The makers of Xbox are investigating the incident in which the unwitting gamer was sent sickening images of boys naked from the waist down to his console.

The man was playing an online game when an unsolicited message containing the images was sent to him. He immediately told his partner and they contacted the gardai.

You can send picture messages if you have the vision cam. You just attach a picture along with txt and/or voice. But with picture, I believe it's default to only accept messages with pictures from people on your friends list according to your privacy settings.

You can't send attachments of saved images though like PSN. Only pictures you take for that message with the camera.

I'm shocked about the fanboys here making juvenile comments on a serious case like this. Those pictures means some child out there is being taken advantage of.

This can happen on any platform, and as the network continues to grow and become more popular you will have more and more sick people do this sort of thing.

....cause what I find funny as hell is if a naked pic of a 17 year old is taken and sent toay it is porn and disgusting but if that person turns at tomorrow and it is done then then it is ok.....granted i know they probably mean a pre teen but whatever. Also, on the PS3 you can search and see any kind of porn thanks t the web browser so dont think you cant get porn on your ps3. Still, as the old saying goes. if there is grass on the field play ball as i like to say....or is it if they are old enough to crawl they are in the right position? Or is it if they are old enough to bleed they are old enough for me? Dont matter, as long as they are at LEAST 18 on the day you see them naked or whatever, then it is ok (unless you are say 16 and you see say a 15 year old naked then that could be ok i guess).

Anyway you can only send 1 picture per message and that article states that mulitple were sent, yet only the 1 message.

And those who are saying you NEED a XBLIVE Vision Camera are wrong, its a little thing called Photo Party which allows you to send images to friends from your USB, Computer and Digital camera.... i think i dunno never used it so, not 100% sure on how the feature works but i think thats right.

As distasteful as those pictures are there aint much Xbox LIVE can do to stop it, at the end of the day the person pressing the button that decides what gets sent. Plus its not like the pictures can be sent anonymously... you need a gamertag to use xbox live and they all require some level of personal information, credit cards, email, names, address, and i would assume they can find your IP address(cause its one of there ban methods: IP bans), so even if thei was a real story (doubt it) the idiot who sent the pictures may as well start digging his grave now.

xbox live messages are different from emails. i dont think there are 360 viruses floating around, because theirs nothing useful to steal on a 360. no credit or bank information whatsoever. thats stored with Microsoft on their own systems. so if someone sends you a message feel free to open it. just tell your kids differently.

Wow I like how all the sony gamers are trying to get their head around sending pictures on xbox live.

Xbox-live gamers can send pictures, voice messages, and open video chat with anyone on xbox live unless they have the features blocked in privacy settings which is NOT blocked by default. All communication features are open on a Gold account and open unless you set them otherwise in privacy settings.

Using an xbox live camera I can take a picture and include text and/or a 15 sec. voice recording attached to the picture and spam all my friends and/or people on my recent players list with it.

None of this would ever happen if people would read the freaking instruction booklets that came with their console. And use the privacy settings. I don't support the idiot that sent the photos but I also don't feel sorry for the idiots that allow it to happen. USE PRIVACY SETTINGS!

I open msgs from anyone, usually its after a game congrt. on a good game or something to that affect. I have never had a bad experiance opening an UNKOWN email on the PSN (does not mean it does not happen).

The good thing about this is if it was sent from a gold member, they will be super easy to track, and prosecute. Silver, not as easy but still pretty easy concidering Microsofts resources.
