Why It Is Bad for Insomniac to Go Multi-Platform

Speculation about Ratchet & Clank developer, Insomniac, going multiplatform is rife over the 'nets at the moment. It's not the first time either. An interview with CEO Ted Price in 2008 also fanned the flames of the rumour fire too. Now it's the turn of a 'trusted source' of IGN to get busy with the bellows as they apparently overheard the story at GDC 2010 in San Francisco recently.

Regardless of whether this is true or not, GamesRadar has serious doubts about this move for Insomniac. Why? Well, after a sterling start to PS3 development with Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction and Resistance: Fall of Man they haven't really kicked on with the subsequent sequels.

As for R&C... Well I need to buy those games man :(

But already in Q1 I have imported Demons Souls, Borrowed MAG and Heavy from my cousin, Played some BFBC2 at a friends house, Purchased FF13, About to buy GodOW3, Splinter Cell next month (yeah I have a funtional 360 now), Mario Galaxy 2 soon... I have no time for R&C just yet :(

Insomniac isn't going anywhere this gen. We got word 100% confirmed. That doesn't rule out a future endeavor, though. As for their next IP. It's a horror game. It's exclusive to the Ps3.

And to add to your statement, Penny. Resistance 2 wasn't as good as Resistance 1 for me. It lacked gritty realism found in the 1st one. It lacked focus too. The graphics, to me, were a bit weaker in some areas. The textures mainly.

As for R&CACIT, I love the series. I've played and beat all of them. It's my favorite platformer this side of Mario, Sonic, Ico and Shadows of the Colossus. <The last two are stretching the genre, I know. But still.

To me, R&CACIT wasn't as good as the previous installments. The graphics were noticeably weaker. The textures were weaker. The aliasing was non existent at times. Sure the space traversal was awesome. Sure some of the mechanics were better... and I did like how they retained focus on the planets you did visit by giving you more objectives and more of a reason to visit them. but as a whole the entire game was less polished than even R&C:QFB. Which still has the best grafix found in the entire series... The aliasing in that game was like 3x AA.

But to end the rant... The series needs to reboot itself. It needs something more and I told Brian. A personally.

ACIT is best Ratchet game so far and i played them all, except that experiment "Going command". Fast paced, non stop leveling, much better story and script than in last couple of games.

I played both R1 and R2 last year. R2 > R1 overall. I dont need another "gritty" shooter, but I would love to see the wheel weapon and some vehicle combat. R2 coop was pretty good.

1. They will have to compromise the graphics to achieve parity.

Maybe you haven't played Resistance and Resistance 2, but they aren't graphical powerhouses. They look good, but come on, they don't really stand out from the pack like Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2.

I haven't played R&C really other than the demos, but nothing about those screams that they couldn't be done on Xbox 360.

R1 looks crappy for current standards. R2 looks decent. I expect IG's next games get a huge improvement graphical-wise.

By staying exclusive they get more exposure then if they were to go multiplatform. If they go multiplatform they'd loose a lot of their fanbase and a quickly become another face in the crowed.

That's just my opinion.
