Fable 2 Episodic Experiment Deemed Massive Success

At the tail end of their GDC interview with Lionhead's Peter Molyneux, Joystiq remembered one more question they simply had to know: How well did Fable 2's episodic experiment go? Last August, Molyneux announced plans to release Fable 2 as a series of five downloadable "episodes," with the first one given away and the subsequent four priced at $10 each.

Molyneux's response: "That was hugely successful. There were something like over half a million. I think it was 600,000 downloads of the first episode, which was very, very cool.

The story is too old to be commented.

I wonder how many people progressed further than the first chapter and downloaded the others?
Whilst Fable 2 is a great game in my opinion, its also a very slow starter.
There is also the possibilty that people who did enjoy the first chapter just picked up the game used for a fraction of the download cost.

I bought the complete game for 12 euro instead of 50.
But that was after playing the first chapter knew nothing about the hype so yeah the game was good.

I know chumps who bought 1 episode and thought they got the whole game on the cheap. I'm not even kidding. I had to explain to the idiots that it was only a fraction of the game.

I honestly think that the episodic idea is quite a smart one. It actually lets people trial the game's start properly and gives the consumer the choice to keep purchasing it bit by bit. In a sense if they lose interest half way through or so they will end up saving some money. The only down side is that it must be downloaded which isn't good for 20gig owners such as myself (or even those who are in countries with bandwidth restrictions like myself...). I won't be surprised if this idea catches on at some point though.
