Will Final Fantasy XIV Be More Well Received Than XIII?

Final Fantasy XIII is considered by many game reviews a good game. Though many gamers out there will consider a mid-8 metacritic score below average. For Final Fantasy, it is below average. While Square has tried to revamp the series and make it more appealing to Western audiences, they still have a ways to go.

With XIV expected to come out later this year, will the upcoming MMO be a bigger critical success than XIII? Will the game appeal better to Western fans? And will XIV be a much better title than XI?

I agree, 14 looks way more appealing, i'll be giving it a go when it releases.

Myst5589d ago

Maybe it all depends. Not a lot of people like MMOs to start with, I personally think it will grab a lot of attention from people. Yet the moment you say monthly fee a lot of people jump ship, Hopefully this won't be the case since XIV is going to rock.

I want in the beta!

evrfighter5589d ago

i told my old linkshell that id be back when 14 was released. So I'll be giving it a go

mikeslemonade5589d ago

No because it's going to come out for the 360. Multiplatform FF doesn't work.

Persistantthug5589d ago

While it is "multiplatform", Final Fantasy 14 is not coming to the XBOX 360/XBOX LIVE.

blind-reaper5589d ago

I honestly don't think so, because they are very different games if you ask me about "VS XIII" vs "XIII" well that is a totally different story "VS XIII" > "XIII" (only if it stays EXCLUSIVE if not we can expect another S-E fiasco).

FamilyGuy5589d ago

Even if it does come to the 360 the fact that this is an MMO means it's allowed to call for a HDD and a size meaning it won't have to compromise any other platorms version by releasing.

Unlike FF13, 14 can force 360 owners to have a HDD to play it so it will be exempt from the biggest negative issue claimed about ff13 (linearity).

Persistantthug5589d ago

I'm not lying about what I said though,
Final Fantasy 13 is announced for the PC and the PS3.

In my opinion, Microsoft will never allow XBOX 360/XBOX LIVE and PS3/PSN to intermingle with each other.
IF you disagree because of FF11, just keep in mind that FF11 was on the PS2 and PS2 did not use PSN.

Also, if it were coming, then why has it not been announced when obviously an XBOX 360 port would be easy as pie and Square has been making games for XBOX 360 this whole generation?

Reibooi5589d ago

Wondering if it will is completely pointless. One of them is a single player game and one of them is a MMO. They are apples and oranges.

It's not like if XIV gets really good reviews is gonna make all the people who don't want to play a MMO play it.

NegativeCreepWA5589d ago (Edited 5589d ago )

People here need to get there facts straight. FFXIV is coming to the 360 at a later date. MMOs can be cross-platform on the 360 because they don't use live servers to connect people, they use the developers servers.

1.8 Do you really think FFXIV will use PSN because it wont, last time I checked PSN wasn't a PC service either.

As for the HDD issue, FFXI and PSU both require an HDD and so will any mmo released on the 360. You had to buy an HDD to play FFXI on the ps2 as well. People saying this are just making an issue of nothing.

Arnon5589d ago (Edited 5589d ago )

It's already confirmed for the 360.

Enough with the bullsh*t. Final Fantasy XI has connected servers between the PS2, PS3 (yes, it can be played on the PS3), PC and Xbox 360. It has nothing to do with Microsoft, and no, you don't need a gold account to play Final Fantasy XI online.

Also, it will most likely not receive adequate scores. Final Fantasy XI never really did, even though I love the game. MMO's in general never really succeed within the journalist realm, except of course, World of Warcraft.

Wouldn't better be... mmmhh... more well. in the title lol

It would have been cool if FF13 had the design of FF14.

I actually prefer the fantasy design rather than the futuristic design a la FF13 or Star Ocean.

Tony P5589d ago (Edited 5589d ago )

That's because it's not designed by Nomura. I don't dislike his stuff, but he can't do fantasy well at all.

FFXIV is designed by the same guy who worked on stuff like Vagrant Story and FFTactics. (Akihiko Yoshida)

happy_gilmore5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

now, versus would be the best jRPG of all time solely because it's a ps3 exclusive.

NaiNaiNai5589d ago

Im sorry last I checked the 360 isn't the only reason for bad games.

Especially since FF has gone down hill since Enix came along.

Droid Smasha5589d ago

sorry moron MS stole this too

incase ya didnt know

Persistantthug5589d ago

I don't think Microsoft is ever going to allow XBOX LIVE and PSN to cross platform intermingle with other.

Would be awesome to get that though....can you just imagine the fanboy guild wars we could all have?
I soil my pants in joy just by thinking about it. lol

Raoh5590d ago

its a trick question that doesnt make sense..

ffxiv and ffxi are mmorpg's

and ffxiii is a jrpg...

they are in different genre's.. i know people that want to play ffxiii but have no interest in ffxiv cause they do not like mmorpg's like ffxi, world of warcraft, city of heroes, champions online.. etc

Omegabalmung5590d ago

FFXIV ftw. Hopefully I can get in the beta.

Do you not see this happening during development? Like, why are we apologizing after the fact instead of stopping it during development?

Stopac20h ago

Criticism and reflection occur after the fact. The apology acknowledges the past criticisms with the new expansion and they're keeping transparency with players about it. Now that they've acknowledged it - it will be interesting to see what kind of cycle we'll get with a new expansion and I wonder if they're planning something special with beast master since they didn't mention it in the last live letter.

anast1d 1h ago

It's all good, as long as the price of the product decreases.

Stopac20h ago

The base game and expansion go on sale all the time and doesn't stay full price for very long since a new expansion is on the horizon.

If you're stating they should reduce the price of new expansions or the sub fee, no, that's not gonna happen lmao people aren't even complaining about that. They are criticizing the same old pattern of content that releases and how it is devolving into mediocracy.

anast18h ago

"They are criticizing the same old pattern of content that releases and how it is devolving into mediocracy."

The product should be cheaper then.

PapaBop23h ago

I was unhappy with DT and have spent far less time in it than any other expansion but it's things like this that makes me respect Yoshi P. It's rare for such a high profile developer to be so candid in his assessment on a live game.

Stopac20h ago

Same, i've found my self resubbing every two patches instead of keeping it up. Don't own a home in the game so there's no point in keeping a constant sub going. The post story is getting interesting though.
