Gamespot gives 9.0/10 to Rainbow Six Vegas (PS3)

Rainbow Six Vegas is one of the very best Xbox 360 shooters of the past year, so it was only a matter of time before Ubisoft brought it over to the PlayStation 3. Thankfully, the PS3 version is just as good as the Xbox 360 game, and it even packs a lot of content that 360 fans had to pay extra for. The result is one of the very best tactical shooters made to date.

Whats up with the title. Nice job contributors.

Ubisoft definitely done a good job porting the game. Whats up with IGN's scores?

PSTripleOG4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

Good job Ubi, i might pick this up....

Edit: @TheMuff thanks for the info, i was thinking this game would run at 1080p, silly me.

Jeba4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

i picked it up yesterday

4 player coop-story is so much fun

but one thing is it looks abit dodgey @ 1080i but runs fine at 720p

Rockstar4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

I picked this up today for PS3.

It looks like absolute garbage at what apparently is 1080i.
Although if i hit the display button on my tv it says its 1080p, it doesnt see 1080i, i believe this game is in need of some kind of patch because it honestly looks like it's a 480i signal on a 1080p setting.

Example, I pop in a 720p only game (untold legends) and I hit the tv display button and it says 720p, I pop in R6V which is 1080i,720p and I hit the tv display button and it says 1080p (which isn't an option).

Long story short I have to disable the 1080i,1080p on the PS3 when i play this game to make it look better. Also, does this game look really dark to anyone else?
I've got my tv setting cranked to ultra f'in bright and in some areas it's still pretty dark.

Satanas4223d ago

@rockstar: stick w/ 720p of course, the interlacing is so horrible. if you're on HDMI try enabling super white for brightness, sure as hell made my games look better.

Seraphim4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

indeed, Super White is something I need to hit on mine. I broke down a bought R6V tonight and played for a couple hours and boy was it dark. Gotta hit Super White and/or take RGB [? tired] off. Seems to be one of the biggest problems with ports is lighting. While it's not awful it could be better imho...

Also going to have to check my resolution. I took 1080i off but it still didn't look quite right. Maybe I was running it in 1080p [upscaled] if that's possible. *frowns* Or maybe it's just me tonight, my eyes are a little hazy. Lol... Or maybe it's just me getting so used to 1080p watching videos, playing the Sigma demo, and Arcade games... idk, don't see it being my tv, never had problem before. fyi: Bravia XBR3

Anyway Solid port. I'm so glad I broke down and decided to buy R6V. Sad thing is it had to drop so late in the month. Now on Tuesday I'll have to play Sigma already. Last week or two weeks ago would've been perfect for R6V...

Satanas4223d ago

Yeah. For this game I'd go with 720p/RGB Full/Super White. And if your TV has a game mode, use it. Or just up the brightness/contrast.

Seraphim4223d ago

got to mess w/ it tomorrow. But RGB full is on, Super White isn't atm because i have a Bravia XBR3 and Super White goes WAY 2 BRIGHT... Gaming Mode is on for PS3 at all times, and Vivid picture, etc... Just have to check settings and toy w/ it a bit tomorrow. With any luck it'll have just been my eyes tonight. As I said they're a bit hazy, lol...

Satanas4223d ago

Heh, actually since you mentioned it, Super White does make some whites look insanely bright. But I think it makes a game's lighting look better, as long as you don't get an object dead on (sometimes it's bright enough to hurt the eyes).

icechai4223d ago

For gaming purposes, 1080i is not the way to go. There was some detailed tech writeup on the ps3 forums a while back about how playing a game in 1080i is like playing a game in 30 fps, as opposed to 720p or 1080p. However if you take a screen cap, 1080i will look slightly better than 720p if you are sitting very far away from the TV, otherwise its not noticeable.

Seraphim4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

Indeed R6V was running in 1080p which is why it was hazy last night. The PS3 must have been upscaling it to 1080p. Maybe the game will upscale to 1080i or p. I don't know but in 1080p it didn't look nearly as good as it does in 720p which is it's native resolution. Anyway, going to settings and selecting only 480p and 720p took care of this problem. While 1080p didn't look half bad it was upscaled and a bit fuzzy, hazy, blurry. Where as, obviously, 720p is much more crisp and clear...

hfaze4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

I have a Westinghouse LVM-37w3 LCD, and when I hit info, it's showing 1080p. It did look better after going into the display settings on the PS3 and enabling RGB Full Range (HDMI), and Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI).

I'll give it a shot running in 720p and see if it looks any better.

Also, remember that the PS3 does NOT upscale PS3 games... When I pop in Resistance or Tiger 07, I'm showing 720p.
