Rumor: Killzone 3 May Make the 2010 Calendar

The rocket launchers need to stay. The Helghan are a violent "remove a grid square" to kill one man type of military. I do not want the Killzone canon destroyed during MP the way they did with HALO.

If people don't want rocket launchers they can create a game with any single weapon or weapons disabled. If you can't get enough players to join then you have to accept the fact that most people like the games with the rockets as part of the inventory. Besides, there are ways to counter every weapon.

I don't think it will come in 2010, but would be pretty cool. Sony proved with Uncharted 2 that they can make massive improvements in just 18 months, so the same could be the case with KZ3.

I don't see why this would be killed by Halo, because Halo is on the Xbox 360, it isn't Modern Warfare, PS3-only owners would be more inclined to by this game if they saw that 360-owners were getting a great game, as was the case with Borderlands and Uncharted 2, 360 owners (mainly, check NPD) bought Borderlands because they had no major release in that month.

In fact, I think it would actually be a good thing for Sony. Killzone 3 will no doubt look better than Killzone 2, which is still graphically better looking than Halo Reach (if you honestly think Halo Reach looks anywhere near as good, you need your eyes checked). If both were advertised at the same time, everyone would simply look at the KZ3 graphics and be amazed. Halo Reach definitely looks good, much better than Halo 3, but it doesn't come close to KZ2 unfortunately.

If Sony did do this, I'd personally like Insomniac to move R3 to March 2011, to polish it up a little. But I think it is more likely we'll see KZ3 in March 2011, and R3 in November 2010.

I love Killzone 2 as is rocket launchers and all! BUT there is one thing I didn't like and I hope they take out of K3, insta-kill headshots. WHEW! Those instantaneous deaths from full health from a single headshot were so annoying! I know some would argue that that is realistic, but Socom: Confrontation (the most realistic shooter I have ever played) didn't even have insta-kill headshots. I'm just saying headshots doing extra damage is nice, but full health is a little too much.

The Only way this could be suicide is if they rush development other than that, shut up. Yeah Halo: Reach will likely be a monster in the Fall, who cares. As long as Guerrilla Doesn't rush anything during development and the game is better and has tapped into the story more its fine their are PS3 owners who will choose KZ3 over Halo, especially if they only have a PS3. Or they might buy both, Imo I want Guerrilla to take their time with KZ3, wait to release it in 2011 if they want to and if it does call forth competition, well at least they'll be bringing gamers to retailers.

Original date for KZ2 was November 2008. It got pushed back so as not to compete with R2! They likely started working on KZ3 in late 2008 because the few touch-ups they did between November and February likely didn't require the whole staff!

There is absolutely nothing stopping a 2010 release!

@Ravage27, that's a good idea about standing still but it shouldn't stop you from jumping from a high location and then firing in the air.

@MattCielo, I think the one kill headshots need to stay for Snipers. That is the entire purpose of the headshot. I do think there are ways to balance it. For example, standard sniper rounds will not kill in one shot. They will shatter a helmet and the second round kills. the exception is when the player upgrades to the ability to carry 5 depleted uranium rounds per spawn life. This gives them one shot kills through body armor.

Another choice might be to have the depleted rounds on kill on the first shot but instead incapacitate the player for 10 seconds and the second shot kills.

On the other hand you can have an unlockable assault helmet that can withstand the depleted uranium. The thing is on both of those, the uranium rounds and the helmet, they occupy a slot. So now the player has to make a tactical choice. Non Killzone players won't get this idea because they have yet to play a game whose entire configuable class system is based on the player making tactical choices.

I don't think Sony would care about either Reach or CoD. Reach isn't a PS3 game anyway so it is irrelevant, and this years CoD (if there is indeed one) is presumably something by Treyarch again... or a DLC... Either way, not as big as an IW made CoD.

KZ3 as a PS3 exclusive would easily hold it's own agqinst those two - the only problem might be that the PS3 has too many good exclusives and so the sales are spread out and each game doesn't sell as well as it might. Possibilities for Christmas this year include GT5, TLG, Resistance 3 (maybe), Agent, whatever comes with the wands etc and probably others I haven't remembered.

I doubt KZ3 will really drop this year - if something KZ related does come out, I suspect it will be an expansion (a'la ODST) rather than a full KZ3.

Ryuzu, put aside your biases and accept the fact that Sony would care very much about when it will launch its games. They've delayed completed games just to give them a chance to sell without competition. Halo Reach and Call of Duty have already proven that they are monster selling franchises. Treyarch's World at War sold 10 million copies. Killzone 3, while being a great franchise, is not a monster seller. Sony will definitely be smart about when to release it.

well considering the reception of mw2 by gamers not reviewers. It's safe to say Call of Duty is a title on the decline. I'm calling it now. MW2 was call of duty's peak. It would be smart to try and grab the gamers that are over the cod train.

They have to make a return considering the amount of money they sunk into the kz2 engine. I wouldn't expect any graphical changes. Some gameplay changes like coop, visual tweaks, some optimizations, and more than likely the aiming movement a la battlefield, call of duty, without the aim assist to keep it challenging.

FYI, Killzone 2 was ready to be released in the Fall of 2008, but Sony postponed the release because they did not want to cannibalize the sales of Resistance 2. So if Killzone 3 comes out in Fall 2010 it will be on a two year development cycle, which is consistent with all of their AAA first-party development cycles.

what they've done with the tech, Killzone 2 is by far still the most impressive graphics in a console FPS to date, so it'll be interesting to see whether Guerilla Games decided to rest on their laurels considering they are still industry leaders, or maybe they decided to blow us away even further and in the process put themselves at an unreachable pedestal. I'm hoping for the latter.

I would hate to say it but don't do the same control mechanism as KZ2 with trying to be realistic,I think this is what put alot of people off the game. I loved it don't get me wrong and I flogged the hell out of it for 6 months online. You can clearly see people just dropped off KZ2 pretty quickly after it launched.
Get that right and I think people would still be playing it online in the masses.

And that is why cod4-mw2 sell so well. It's not the 60fps.

It's the tons upon tons of rankups with call packages, lots of gifts basically and people seem to love it.
