Xbox 360's Answer to Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain has been receiving some high review scores from many gaming sites and blogs. Sony's 2010 momentum has been quite good thus far, and some of the best things about the PS3's recent releases have been the great exclusives.

But let's not forget about the Xbox 360, the 360 has some great 2010 exclusives out coming this year.

It will be hard for the 360 to match the PS3's releases this year. They did good with Mass Effect 2, but ever since the rumor of it coming to PS3, I see it different.

Why the hell is deadly premonition up there? that game is a normal horror game that's about it.And I dont see why Alan Wake would be an answer to Sony's Heavy rain if the game as been in adevelopement since 2006. MAG isnt what it was hyped up to be because the game Isnt AAA it got a metascore of 7.8 and WKC isnt what people might call great rpg because the metascore is at 6 something.

Alan Wake and Heavy Rain are not similar types of games. The game play is completely different from what we've seen and the story's are completely different.

Microsoft doesn't have any real first party studios. Sony games are better because people weren't lazy about trying to crack open pandora's box. Microsoft had people rely heavily on the Unreal Engine 3 which was good at first but is now causing the system to look a little dated.

Heavy Rain imo is a interactive movie, thats great but I don't see any incentive on micro's part to run out and make that type of game just so they can watch it flop, the "gameplay" is niche and doesn't appeal to many gamers like myself, its the same reason why you're not going to see a ton of Banjo games(I like Banjo)or Viva Pinata's, Blue Dragon type games on the 360, BECAUSE THEY DON'T SELL= THE MAJORITY OF THE FANBASE COULD CARE LESS, don't get me wrong having the variety that the 360 does have is nice because that means the 360 has some very good games that are not shooters which opens the platform up to all types of gamers who may prefer shooters but like a bit of everything too(like me) but a Heavy Rain-type game on the 360 at this point would be the biggest flop in gaming history, I own a ps3 and still not getting HR....which obviously has nothing to do with HR's quality and everything to do with my gaming preferences. 360 audiene preference goes something about like this 1st and foremost= shooters(same as ps3 but more so for 360), then action games, then sandbox games, then wrpg's, then platformers, then racing games, then xbl old school games, then fighting games......then a distant last would be jrpg's and imo interactive movies like HR wouldn't even be noticed on 360. I'm all for different experiences but just being different doesn't make something attractive to me.

-So far the PS3 hasn't brought anything that exceptional. Heavy Rain is about the best the PS3 is getting so far and even that is not to the same level as Mass Effect 2.

The rest of the year the PS3 has God of War 3 (that looks awesome), but other than that none of the confirmed PS3 games really look that good to me. The Last Guardian will be good, but who knows if that will even come out this year.

In my opinion the 360's lineup is a lot better this year than the PS3's lineup. Alan Wake alone will likely be a better game than Heavy Rain. That's my prediction at least. Then you have all the other big games hitting on the 360 this year. Splinter Cell Conviction, Fable 3, Halo Reach. I bet even Metro 2033 will do better than White Knight Chronicles and MAG.-

I've gotta say, i haven't seen anything equivalent to HR anywhere else recently or upcoming (be it on Xbox or PC). But every system has it's own games, so who really cares. If you want HR, buy a PS3, if you want something else... buy whatever that requires.

Just seems to be an excuse for either side to talk about how much better, in their eyes of course, their favoured system's lineup is this year. I mean, duh, of course you prefer the lineup on your favourite system - it's your favourite system.

Personally at this point, Alan Wake and Natal have me curious on the 360 side (and God of War3/The Last Guardian and Heavy Rain on the PS3 side). But even Alan Wake/HR comparisons are trolling. They look nothing alike; the actual gameplay sections of Alan Wake look more like an Uncharted type approach (albeit with, by the looks of it, more of an exploration than action orientated bent). HR is it's own thing (and will attract it's own audience - i'm part of that audience, but it's not going to be for everyone).

Heavy Rain from what I've read is a very unique game, the first of it's kind. MS should just let it be. If they want to create something with the Heavy Rain feel, it needs to be different enough where it won't feel like an imitation.

Besides, their exclusives schedule this year, unlike last year, is pretty good. They don't need to copy the game, as someone above me said. In fact the highest rated exclusive so far this year is Mass Effect 2, which has a 96 on Metacritic (the same score that Uncharted 2 has), so it's definitely a GOTY contender.

Heavy Rain is more of an answer to Alan Wake since the Xbox title has been in development longer.

Unfortunately, Heavy Rain didn't reach Triple A status and I suspect, judging by recent gameplay and the amount of polish, that Alan Wake will.

don't get it.. its been proven that the PS3 has better graphics and it's games can have more content, so PS3 exclusives will have better graphics and more content, so it only seems obvious that they will be better. The only excuse I can see is laziness. The 360 really doesn't need an answer to Heavy Rain. No matter how great or innovative the game ends up being, there's no way that it's going to become a huge seller that would make Microsoft feel the need to make their own version of it.

I can't wait to play it, but I have no delusions that it's going to sell like Halo, MW, Uncharted, or even Killzone. Microsoft simply doesn't make or sponsor games just because they are innovative or artistic - they want money and a bigger market share. It's great business for them, as they don't have the first-party support that Sony does, so they have to go with games that are more bankable. However, a certain percentage of Microsoft's consumers lose out - the ones who want "different" types of games that aren't either sequels or derivative-type experiences. That's not to say that there aren't unique games on the 360, but there just seems to be more on the PS3 side at this point in time...

Ninja Blade was fun but not for buying, rent material and halo wars.... i mean seriously, I dint like end war(not my cup of tea off course lol) y would i try halo wars and you can see almost no 1 played it, well at least in my buddy list only 2 did to see the story. I really dk how mag got bad reviews because if you play the game its fun, same can be said with wkc, its not a 9 but it isn't a 7 aether ( in rating I mean). It should be a solid 8. Ninja blade was ok, but like I said not buying material. The fact remains that Ninja Blade and Halo Wars have a 68 and 82 respectively, at the same time White Knight Chronicles and MAG have a 65 and 77 respectively. So, don't you see the hypocrisy? PS3 fans called those 360 games "flops" and now they are trying to act like White Knight Chronicles and MAG are great games. When the truth is that the aforementioned 360 games actually scored higher than the later PS3 games. That is pure hypocrisy.

Anyway, I agree that it is a great year to be a gamer and that there are great games on both consoles. I just wish some of you would be more fair towards the 360. Give credit where credit is due.

-Crackdown was one of the best 360 exclusives.

-Halo Wars was the best thing that came from halo since Halo:CE

-WKC is underrated, it the equivalent to the PS3's version of Lost Odyssey one of the greatest JRPGs this gen. WKC is better than FF13 from my experience with both of them since FF13 is just story based and pretty much a long anime with gameplay scenes which I couldn't enjoy because of moonspeak.

-I played the Heavy Rain Demo excepting QTE: THE GAME and got greeted by one of the best video game(?) experience ever. No movie or video game has ever been on this level. It's an experience of it's own kind and deserves to be played by everyone. It's worth buying a PS3 for.

-The PS3 probably has the best line-up this year but that's coming from me, a PC gamer and as a PC gamer I play games like Mass Effect 2 on the PC of course which makes the 360 line-up look weaker. Although if I look at it from a console only perspective(Retard/13 year old perspective) the line-ups are fairly even with maybe a slight advantage in the PS3's favor.

-2011-12 is where the PS3 truly shines with games like Zone Of Ender 3, Killzone 3, Infamous 2, GT6, Uncharted 3, Sly Cooper, FF versus and many others.

-Ninja Blade was made by FROM Software so I'm possibly a little biased here since.... I #$%@ing love FROM. They're easily one of my favorite developers because of games like 3D Dot Games Heroes, Demon's Souls, King's Field and THE ARMORED CORE SERIES. So I won't bother talking about this. Although I actually liked Ninja Bladed I still agree it's the kinda game you don't pay a lot for or a rental.

-MAG is a game that reviewers can't review until about a month or so of playing it. I can't take anyone who reviews this game seriously. This game is a seriously amazing FPS that I almost want to say it's worth getting a PS3 for. This game is out standing and I usually have impossibly high standards when it comes to FPS games and if it can't compete with some of my favorite FPS games like Team Fortress 2, Quake, Unreal Tournament 3, Counter Strike, ect I pretty much call it crap.

I'm no proponet of Heavy Rain, believe me... I sold my copy on E-bay for next to nothing and didn't even have to go through a biding war. I asked for 30 and got it within two checks of my e-mail.

Sony has tons and tons of games that have broken the mold and went above and beyond the set standard. Games you can only experience on the system. As much as I was against Heavy Rain... I'm still standing my ground saying, you can't find a similar experience anywhere else.

Microsoft is not interested in breaking the mold, and 360 fans are not interested in games that tangent off into something like Heavy Rain. The fans want what the fans want. And as a corporation interested in making profit, Microsoft doesn't want to try to hard to make its games sell.

Hence, Halo. Halo has a built-in audience of almost 10 million people. Once a game becomes that much of a sales monster, it falls under criticism by little nitpicks like you who feel that you're unique because you play games that nobody else plays. You're special. Heavy Rain certainly is a unique experience. But I understand why Xbox gamers don't want it. It's not their cup of tea.

Both Mass Effect and Gears of War were team collaborations between Microsoft and Epic and Microsoft and Bioware. It doesn't matter if both games appeared on PC because the production of both games was made possible by Microsoft and as an experience for the Xbox 360. And maybe you will argue that neither are groundbreaking experiences, but that falls into the realm of opinion.

I will argue this, though. There is also no groundbreaking experience on the PS3 that didn't appear in one form or another on either the PC or the Xbox.

MAG - you say it's groundbreaking because it's a console game. I say, if PS3 owners are able to consider the PC a platform when talking in context of 360 games, then that means you can also consider the PC a platform when talking in context of PS3 games. If you can accept that, then there's nothing groundbreaking about MAG. Nothing at all. It's all been done on PC before.

KZ2 - a standard, corridor shooter with generic story and glamorous graphics. What's groundbreaking about it? Misguided PS3 fans think that they can actually compare the visuals of this game to Crysis, and then they say that KZ2 looks great because it's the only console FPS that's compared to Crysis. Instead that a frustrating exercise in Tautology? "It looks really good because we said it looks really good."

Uncharted 1&2 - Groundbreaking? Why? Again, graphics. It's just another take on TombRaider. Yes, it is a great game. Wonderful game that I played a lot and praised a lot, but ultimately, what about it makes it groundbreaking other than graphics?

FF versus 13: Another FF story. Again, most PS3 fans are looking forward to this the most because it promises to take full advantage of PS3's power. Nobody really even talks about the story, do they? Not a one, at least not on N4G. So, really, what's groundbreaking about it, other than better visuals and towns?

Heavy Rain - Indigo Prophecy-like story from the guys who made... Indigo Prophecy. What's groundbreaking about it? Oh, that's right. It's the only game where you can shave your character's face and take a shower. That's stuff gamers don't even like doing in real life. It's not groundbreaking. Maybe, just maybe, you guys need to find out what groundbreaking actually means before you can apply the label to any PS3 game as you see fit.

Infamous - Oh, here's one. A super hero with super powers in a sandbox environment. Never seen that before... Oh, wait. Yes we have.

Killzone 2 felt derivative--like mostly COD with a few other ideas thrown in--but it still wasn't any more original than some of the 360's shooters. Hell, Gears of War felt like a fresher experience when it came out than Killzone 2 felt.

Uncharted is a great franchise, but it is known for being derivative.

God of War 3 is going to be awesome, but it looks like a better looking version of God of War 2 with a few new additions to spice it up.

Heavy Rain plays almost exactly like Indigo Prophecy.

If we are going by these harsh standards no game this gen has innovated, the last game to do so probably being HL2. If you want to look at progression as innovation then plenty of games this gen have broke the mold e.g. Gears of War, LBP, Uncharted, Killzone2, MGS4 and Heavy Rain all for various reasons.

Unreal Tournament 3 (ps3) - allows users to upload mods to test out on PS3 (first game to do so on a console, and probally the last).

Playstion Home - 1st Social Mass gathering "HUB" to charge for microtransactions for Avatars on a console.

The Eye of Judgment - Perhaps the most innovative Software title this generation. (Granted it was a Niche game)

So far it looks like 360 is losing big time, last I check at the stores here, they haven't got any shipment's in of the PS3, but yeah they got alot of 360's laying around with a list of use 360 games that almost match the number of copys they got on PS2 games use.

Looks like no one likes keeping their 360 games or they are selling it for something that doesn't have a fail rate of 55%.

Lack of good software an hardware an now they have only one system seller an that is Halo, ME2 can't count for anything for 360. Do to the fact it is better on PC then on a junk gaming system like the 360, aleast the PS3 you can upgrade its hard drive to more then 250GB.

Sorry but this year is going to be another year when Microsoft calls another price cut, just watch. I bet their going to do it at E3 if not sooner.

heavy rain is good for what it is - an interactive movie. if you review it as that, you probably would have to give it an 8+ out of 10. but as a game, it fails miserably, and most people would probably give it a 3-4 out of 10, and even then thats only for the graphics.

Resistance Series - Definately unique. Not to mention resistance 1 was a LAUNCH TITLE and was put up against gears and actually did great. It's plot is much better than the "OMG ALIENS" attempt in all of the xbox's games but you wouldn't know that, since none of you probably played resistance. They aren't aliens. It's pretty sick.

To be honest, I enjoy 360 games. I really do. But this is what bothers me. Xbox would be NOTHING if it wasn't for Sony. Sony started all of the shiz. GTA, MGS, Tekken, Killzone, final Fantasy etc. etc. xbox would of flopped if it wasn't for those companies going multiplatform. To me, the playstation has been the big pimp daddy since day one. Before that nintendo and sega were dual pimpin'. Xbox just swept in with alot of funds trying to replace and take exclusives with little to no sucess. GTA is now one of the less cared for titles. Everybody hated GTAIV. Microsoft is just ruining gaming by having small diks (I mean discs) costing 60$ games to be more with pointless DLC taking up harddrive space. Damn they sure know how to milk people for their money. Make garbage consoles so people need to pay more to make up for it, but having a smaller inital price so people get lured in and caught.

I'm glad I paid a couple hundred dollars more to have a secure system that's been popping out great games every month so far, and doesnt need to be shipped in for repairs over two weeks every year.

I played the HR demo this morning (1st time ive switched my PS3 on in months).

I does look gorgeous. However It must be easier to make something look that good when the enviroments are restricted that much. But that's the kind of game it is and it's good at it. It creates the kind of atmosphere that they were probably after. Not fair to compare the graphics to Alan Wake as AW won't look as good (athough AW looks great in it's own right) as it's enviroments are more open.

I'm buying both day 1 as there is room in my library for both these games and genres.

Stop these hater session on the different games. It has already started on FF13 this one looks better then this one. GOW3 will hear it because Halo Reach is going to run circles around the game instead of playing the game. believe me after getting my 3rd launch 360, I said I was an idiot for doing so...all our consoles going back to intellivision still work fine..even both PS2 models...and I was on my 3rd 360 in one year....

It was out first, has the largest market share, sells more copies of games and has been consistently leading with new IP this generation from Bioshock, Mass Effect, Crackdown, Saints Row & Gears to Splosion Man and Shadow Complex.

If anything is 'answering' to anything else it's PS3 which hasn't brought any of it's A game before the 360 has.

That being said, if i had a ps3 i'd definitely get Heavy Rain, for the other half.

Heavy Rain is so overrated. Mass effect 2 owns this game in about every aspects, except for graphics. HR deserves a 7/10 at most, nothing more. Mass effect 2 deserves a 9.5/10. The only good game coming out for ps3 this year will be GOW3. Aside from that, the lineup sucks..I have to say, this year will be the 360 year, and thats coming from a ps3 fanboy, shame on you sony!

How is ME2 better then a PS3 game, when ME2 on PC is better then the 360? Plus all those titles for PS3 are PS3 only, which means that unlike ME2, you can only play it on a PS3.

Yeah ME2, blows on 360 Vs PC and it can't be count as a 360 only title Vs something that isn't on PC.

Stop making it sound like the PC and 360 versions of the game are vastly different.. Actually, the 360 version is getting better ratings..

So anyway, yes it is a fantastic game and one that I would put right along side Uncharted 2 as a game that I would never trade out.

And of course for me, UC2 is the best game in the PS3 line-up. So you can figure out the rest.. But yeah I agree with 31 on everything but HR being over-rated.. I just know any other game using QTE would be killed but somehow this game gets a pass so there must be something very compelling about it.

Sony fanboys only play exclusives.. What a loss.. But then again, your team is doing a lot of losing this gen.
