Vandal Hearts will see you taking on the role of Tobias an orphan of a great conflict and strife. Currently residing within the Church of Restoration (a training academy) Tobias is thrown head first into adventure when bandits attack the Church and the surrounding Village. From this point onwards the game follows the usual role-playing mechanics; plenty of quests which will see you killing hordes of bad guys and eventually saving the world.

Vandal Hearts 1 and 2 was great, but the 3rd game was not that good in comparison. I'm sure even FF Tactics was inspired by Vandal Hearts, considering it came before that.

They should add Rocket Knight to that list. I don't think the revival was all that it could have been.
