Dante's Inferno - ZTGD Review

ZeroTolerance writes: Epic action games seem to be the theme for 2010 and so far things are good. EA and Visceral Games are back with yet another entry to the genre, this time with a game that borrows from two ends of the spectrum. Dante's Inferno is a balls-to-the-wall action game that pits an unlikely hero against the forces of Hell in order to retrieve the love of his life. While it may borrow heavily from another action title we will try to refrain from mentioning there is a lot to like about Visceral's latest. The action is intense, the visuals are stunning, and anyone interested in action games will be guaranteed to have a ton of fun with this one.

with God of War III right around the corner. As the genre defining series, God of War is simply going to be a better purchase for my hard earned dollar.

The sad truth is that, in the world of HD gaming, money talks. Too many of us don't have the budget to pick up Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, God of War III AND Dante's inferno all within 6 weeks of each other. One of them has to go...and the answer is obvious which it is.

Thanks for the inoput, but don`t you find its getting little cliché for someone to come into a Dante`s Inferno review article to remind us that they wont get it because God of War 3 is just around the corner?

We know God of War is coming and I am even willing to bet that almost everyone who can get this game will buy GoW3 day one also, or even be smart with their cash and trasde in Dante`s inferno for God of War 3. We know life is hard, we know some peoples budgets will force them to chose one game over another, these facts are as old as gaming time, however it does not change the fact that this game is good. And there is zero need to downplay a great game, simply because you will not be able to buy it.

If you are a God of War fan, you owe it to yourself to at the very least Rent this game. There is not need to tell people you will not be getting this game even though its good, it just makes no sense.

I could not agree more with this review, a would also give it a solid 8, even an 8.5 simply for the sick crazy retarded mosters they put in this game, lol

the bane of college educated men and women everywhere. We must be unique snowflakes! Let our originality shine through! Our voice is without value if we utter that which has been spoken before! And in the videogame world, no less.

Sorry, I'm going a little overboard, and this isn't even particularly aimed at you, Montrealien, just the long-held ideology of the "wrongness" of the cliche. So....when does pointing out cliche's become cliche? (one of the better discussions held in my English 5500 class)

Yes, I'm a horrible person. Please, assail me with your all-too-correct, scathing observations of my character, my weakness for taking offense.

Happy gaming buddy, I wish you nothing but the best from Dante's Inferno and beyond. To each their own!

P.S. The first agree your comment received is from me!

lol, awesome, now if only more people on N4G could be like you. :)

The only thing I did not like was that you accused me of saying you are a horrible person. Assailing you with my all-too-correct, scathing observations of your character, you weakness for taking offense. Because I did not do that and it was never personal, and infact, never will be.

still a great read nonetheless.

And no worries. Just some dramatic flair, so kudos to you all around for catching it. :) And especially for your reasonable nature. I agree, more of that would go a long way on these forums.

What I find most humorous is the almost immediate degrading of this game simply for the sake of it being labeled a god of war clone. There are countless numbers of games to which there have been copies and yet they are worthy to try in their own right. I cant tell you how many shmups I have that resemble gradius style game play of raiden type of visuals. The same basic principle is involved of fly around, shoot stuff, get power ups and fight end bosses.

If that combo of similarities in games is considered wrong then I dont want to be right. I do like a little originality but like the old phrase goes. If it aint broke why fix it. GoW is not the first to have its style of gameplay nor will it be the last.

Dante inferno takes what works for GoW and makes it its own. I really enjoy the look and feel of the level design. I never thought hell would be such fun to hack and slash in. I really wish people will stop the comparisons but it is a moot point when people are locked into one frame of thinking.

Good game...good score.

Started off thinking this game was just OK.

But after the first play through once you've unlocked all the goodies and learnt the combos (especially the cross ones) its bloody brilliant.

Its a solid 8/10

I agree bro the game is solid 8 or even higher, I just made it to the second circle, so many hours did you clock in?

Montrealien3669d ago

I am about 3 hours in and I am hoping to finsih it this weekend. What a great game.

how can one deny a game where crazy demon witches spread their legs and have a huge tongue grab you? the monsters in this game are sick.

The Meerkat3669d ago

8 hours to complete it in game time.
More like 11-12 real time when you add in all the deaths.

I liked it much better than Bayonetta.

I'm quite proud of my 666 combo achievement.

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with Dante's Inferno. My girlfriend actually bought it since she is a fan of The Divine Comedy, but I wanted to play it since it was sort of like seeing all my death metal album covers come to life trying to kick my ass, lol. I completely agree that the combat is a direct copy of GoW, but on the other hand the atmosphere that Dante's creates is very unique and awe inspiring. Is it a perfect game? No. On my PS3 copy I did notice a little tearing and slowdown especially with a lot of enemies on screen and using the cross a lot. Even so it's still a solid game and I would give it an 8/10. Some of the combat moves are just awesome, like the downward stab with the scythe. What other game will let you fight Death, Satan, hordes of demons while being puked on, set on fire, and sprinkled with unbaptized babies from out of Cleopatra's nipple? Even if you just rent it, this game is worth experiencing just for the crazy visuals.

It may not be winning the critics over but it's a full 20 dollars less than usual price in my local store.
