MAG is a game that cant be described in a just manner with words nor videos. You have to take the controller, use the headset, and feel the feeling of immersion that is unbelivable. I dont like online only games, FPS online like halo, Cod, KZ2 are not my sweet tooth, but MAG is NOT a FPS online game, is a squad based tactical game were going comando will get killed every time. Im enjoying this game so much and i got it because Dead Cell made a post describing MAG and my jaw drop, i bought it and my jaw dropped even lower. This game is absolute amazing, and after playing on those HUGE maps with over 100 players in Acquisition, is hard to go to a 16 battle royal in mini maps. Give the game a try, is very difficult to express the MAG experience through words or videos

Maybe you need to upgrade from your dial-up connection. I've put in almost 30 hours and I've had one moment of noticeable lag. It was exactly that, just a moment. I was running and suddenly I was about 10 feet back from where I was heading a moment ago. Other than that I've had 1 game fail due to connection issue, so that's less that 1% of the games I've played that had a serious problem.

MAG has the most rock solid online I've ever played.

256 players can blind a person into thinking the game is amazing i guess. More doesnt always mean better, and gameplay wise MAG isnt doing anything special except increasing player count. Not that its a bad game, but i dont really think it raises the bar for shooters since not all shooters strive to be mega battlefield war games.

I don't know. I tried my hardest to get into the beta, but it just didn't feel fun for me. I hated the controls and the hit detection was horrible. It's also very annoying when you die and spawn right at the back of the map and have to make a 1 minute run back to your squad. It baffles my mind that zipper didn't allow you to at least spawn on your squad leader.

Maybe I need to play it a bit more with a headset, but when games are $110 and renting is pathetically expensive so I'm a bit scared to make that investment if I still don't find MAG fun.

I agree that it was frustrating to run that long trek to the battle only to get shot down and have to wait again. But what that told me is before I run out to the battlefield, I will stop behind cover, check the map, look for enemies before preceding. I stopped getting killed and the game became fun, I mean at work thinking of strategies fun.

Regardless of what all the bad reviews said, in reality, this games #1 feature really is that it is fun. This game is a blast to play, when you understand how it works. Just don't run out there, look first. Stay with squad members, they will have your back and can revive you.

I agree with you 100%. This game is great. As far as multiplayer FPS, I just dont see anything topping it anytime soon. Huge maps, so many cracks and crevices to hide (except for sver's fukcing stages. LOL). It definitely wont be for everyone, especially the halozzzzzz and call of dootie types. Let me make it clear that MAG isn't perfect, but damn its so much freaking fun.

Walking from Base a pain?
Dont bleedout! Wait for a squad mate to revive you... and they will cause everyone likes the +10pts they get. And 9/10 times your Squad Leader will have the revive kit so if your close to them and getting the leadership bonus then you'll likely be back on your feet in no time at all. The only time you should have to walk all the way from base is if your whole squad and your bunker was taken out... or your body is in the middle of a killzone.

You can spawn nearer the front line in MAG when your team gets farther forward. You can change spawn point while waiting to spawn so you dont always heve to run miles to get back to the action. I have spawned in tanks, helicopters and you also parachute in.

I agree. The size and scope of MAG definitely raise the bar up a notch and have got me hooked. Every battle is so dynamic in a way that the smaller scale of other games simply can't match. I don't think any game of smaller scale is going to be able to top MAG for me personally.

While I also think MAG is an amazing game(finally got it the other day)that will appeal to gamers who're prepared to put in a little more time and effort to learn the best way to play the game(generally AND, most importantly, for them and their squads)than you need to in most shooters.

However, some people just don't dig games where the team is paramount, like to camp, like to go lone wolfing, don't have the extra time it needs to be a decent team shooter player or find MAG just isn't to their taste regardless of how good at it they are. Fact is there's a lot of reasons MAG might not be the game for you and being n00bish isn't necessarily the one and only in existence you know!

It's the same reason that TF2 doesn't have more players than COD4 or even KZ2 as many as WaW-even slightly more tactical shooters cannot appeal to as many gamers as ther pick up and play, aim-assisted FPS brethren and that's just the nature of gamers today. Whether it's personal taste, lack of time or inclination ,or what, team based shooters are less popular than ones where you don't need to worry about it all.

Sadly, I can understand why you, as a MAG player might be so defensive as the kicking people seem to be relishing giving it is bemusing to me as well. They seem to have missed the whole point that it was NEVER going to sell Halo numbers as the team shooter is a bloody niche genre, the reviews are pointless, as well, for MAG as it relies almost entirely upon it's communtiy to make the game the best in can be in the enviroment they brilliantly, imo, created.Reviewing it witout letting it settle was idiotic, imo, and borders on the deliberately unfair and I applaud the sites with the decency to at least allow it to settle down for a week or two.

Finally, the way I see it is the ex SOCOM and Team Fortress gamers and the plucky newcomers who will make up the MAG community stand to gain a little more from it than you get fropm normal shooters as the accomplishment feels deeper in MAG than even in TF2 when things go really well for you and your side. Put a lot in and you'll get a lot out and if it's just genuinely not up someone's street ,for whatever reason, I think it's a pity as there's definitely some great gaming to be had when you start learning the ropes in MAG. The amount of bare faced hate the game attracts is so out of proportion, however, that I find it a complete joke.

MAG is the game I imagined a war fps would be long before they ever hit the market. Zipper has successfully created something that has long been impossible. The map/game design is phenomenal, each map is specifically designed for a certain faction to defend and another to attack. (with specific advantages based on that factions strengths and weaknesses)

Finally here we are in 2010 living the war shooter dream. So many players, and it works.. Pass on MAG - It's your loss; lots of us are enjoying the heck out of it. All that CoD is for casuals, MAG is for hardcore isn't true - MAG is for everyone; play it long enough and you'll be hooked. Sure you'll get games with no communication, but persist and find the ones you do and you'll be rewarded with online gaming bliss. Headset is required.

I'm not that great at FPS games, my daughter is much better than I am at COD. But my FPS of choice was always killzone and the transition to MAG was easy. I've spent all my skill points getting my sniper rifle upgraded to the max, love the 50 cal with variable scope. So when I'm not sniping I just use the stock machine gun with no upgrades at all and I can still usually get a positive K/D ratio. if I can do it then anyone can do it.

...with no SP campaign, it's not worth a look to me; same goes for Warhawk. I got a PS3 (used 40gig) for a handful of exclusives I was interested in (mainly LBP and UC 1 & 2). I certainly didn't buy it for online gaming ...so buying a MP-only game for the PS3 is pointless.

I'm sure M.A.G. is fun, if you have an established group of online buddies you play with, and you all have (and use) headsets...and GOOD ONES, with no crappy feedback and/or background noise.

But, I bought an official PS3 headset, only to consistently join a UC2 game/lobby where NOBODY is chatting...or WANTS to. Once a match starts, I might as well be playing SP....which is much more fun ANYWAY.
So, unless some of my old XBL friends ever decide to pick up PS3s and join me, I'll never bother with PSN MP gaming again.

MAG really warrants communication. In fact, I would say that it is KEY to any success in the larger games. It is almost impossible, regardless of skill, to defend an objective without it. I just wish that they could have worked a SOCOM deal and got the headsets into the retail release, thus insuring that ALL players at least have a headset. That being said, I haven't been in one group that hasn't had at least 3-4 of the 8 with mics. Maybe I have been lucky. Or, maybe people are realizing that this isn't the lone wolf style game and you need to communicate.

I had MAG reserved and the only reason I didnt pick it up was the fear of lack of balance in the game. I played in 3 of the MAG betas and sometimes the deck was so stacked you know you were gonna loose regardless what you did. I am hearing from some budz that presently that is an issue. I think they said Serv is dominating most of the games.
I so much wanted a new shooter and let MAG slip and tried the BC2 PS3 beta, demo and the 360 demo and that game is totally meh..not much diff. than the first. The demo map is stupid it has so many choke points its a snipers dream

sver often seems better than the other two- but not ridiculously so. It gives you a wide variety of challenge (unless you're sver.) When your team does overcomes tough odds (certainly do able) - it's all the more enjoyable.

But It does appear like SVER have a defensive advantage on at least the acquisition and domination maps. It seems like you've always got at least 3 bunkers that are able to fire at you. The Raven and Valor maps don't have the same level of overlapping cover.

But that doesn't bother me. I knew from the betas that SVER had some sort of advantage. I don't think I ever won against SVER and rarely lost as SVER during the betas. But I play for the challenge, if winning is easy then it's no fun, that's why I joined Raven, and I'm having a blast.

Agreed 100% I also played with each faction during the 3 beta phases. Maxed each out (lvl 40 during the beta) and found SVER to be the most powerful. Not only is there a defensive advantage, but their guns are literally stronger. I have gone head to head with myself having the advantage of the first couple of bullets and STILL have been killed (not by headshot either). That being said, I also play for FUN and challenge. I play as RAVEN as well...and it IS a challenge. I think that once some of those SVER players get bored with dominating everything and drift to the other two factions, the game will balance out some more. Plus, as Valor and Raven players get experience in attacking SVER...it will get harder for them to dominate. Either way, I'm in for the long haul.

SVRE is good but not because of unbalanced. Usually the other team is that good and aren't working well together. I think svre has the most communication going on because most of the beta people jumped to that side. Last night though we played Valor and they had a very good strategy and we had troubles just getting to bunkers. So its really about who you are playing with.

Like it's been said before, it's a design choice. It's the gameplay structure. When all of one sides squads are flowing and acting together, it really is a beautiful thing, and is a very hard game to put down.

Eh I don't really agree with the article. I played MAG quite a bit when they had the open beta (or whatever they were calling it) right before release and while I had some fun, I never got into it. The controls were annoying, and not because it didn't control like every other game. They just didn't feel right. The sound was also weak. I felt like I was shooting a pellet gun when I was sniping. Graphics were average, but that's excusable.

Just the way I feel. I'm sure some people enjoyed it, but I couldn't get into it. 256 players and lack of lag (which is amazing) were the only things special about it, in my opinion. But I'm sure I'm just a hater who doesn't get it...

After experiencing MAG on domination holding back or attacking the assigned units from A to H, I just can't go back to ANYTHING less than 16v16 and even that is the bare minimum.

All this talk of MAGs graphics is total BS - TOTAL.

I recently played the BFBC demo and WOW! Anyone who can't see that MAGs graphics are better than that is just blind and that's just 12v12 max. At one time, this game felt good, awesome... but after MAG, I'm sorry but it's boring. It feels wayyy to tiny. You don't run or drive to your next objective but rather just magically transported there and that jsut feels weird now.

Wonder why no ones really done a comparison vid of MAG Vs MW2? They do them real quick for the most stupid comparables in gaming genres so why not for two or three FPS online? cause if you did something like that, it would be obvious to even fools MAG looks so similar to MW2 - and in some cases even better - while pushing over 15times the amount of action and people on screen.

All these other games get high marks on the graphics of their SP campaign and not the graphics for the online portion. MAG is an online only game so that's the only graphical comparison you can truly make with MW2 or BFBC.

Anyone who's a FPS gamer and didn't pick up MAG cause of the demo of Sabotage on MAGs demo is an utter fool. I don't know how else to put it. KZ2 online MP was the most visceral tactical team gameplay I've seen on consoles but MAG just takes visceral tactical team gameplay to yet another insane level.

This game is a monster FPS online. To miss out on this if you're even remotely interested in FPSs is share stupidity.

Just be aware that MAG has no auto aim when shooting from the hip.
There is a little auto aim when scoped up. Right now I play as SVER and Valor using two accounts because I never waste my time with any presige mode.

Watch this real NO Auto Aim run n gunnin video. You could never do this in MW2 or BTF2 becuse Auto Aim Assist takes the skill out and equalizes the players. MAG is as Pure of a FPS shooter you will get these days.

Sabotage (32 vs 32 ) matches last 20min. Two different objectives to attack/defend, a third objective open up if the first two fall. No vehicles, armed bunkers. Just man against man

Acquisition (64 vs 64) not sure how long the matches are, but most probably 30min. You get to capture/defend two mobile objectives. Defenders got armed bunkers, attackers UAVs. I havent played this that much because I'm hooked on Domination.

Domination (128 vs 128) 30 min long. You get to capture and hold as long as you can 8 objectives. Domination is the most complex mode in any game EVER. Defenders have armed bunkers, Anti-Aerial batteries, mortars, UAVs. Each Platoon consists of 4 (8 men) squads. Their assigned task is to prevent attackers to take the cooling/burnoff towers. If attackers are successful a couple of objectives open up. Typically AA batteries are taken down by attackers leaving the field open for selective aerial strikes. Any attacking squad leader has access to aerial strikes. There are 4 platoons so this scenery is 4 fold along a HUGE map. Dude this game is EPIC.

Regarding leveling system. As you win XP (killing, taking objectives, following orders, etc) you are granted Skill points. With them you buy upgrades for your weapons, weapons, or specific gear like Medical Kits (for resuscitation/healing), Repairing kits, etc

SVER is one of the three competing factions. I'm RAVEN, others VALOR. SVER has been owning in Domination and some believe there is some balancing issues favoring SVER. I just can say SVERs are the best so far at teamwork. Best teamwork rewards with victory, and MAG is a lot about teamwork. You can go like a lone-wolf but you will die fast and helpless. Stick with your squad and you will make a difference.

Was in the MAG beta and loved it. Then I started to see more about BFBC2. I delayed purchasing MAG to try the BFBC2 demo and realized I should have stuck with MAG. Just preferred the gameplay of MAG.

its a flawed gem that may be polished over time depending on the community and the support we get from the devs.

I do not feel like the 256 players has spoiled other shooters for me, but I do wish people would stop using that as the main selling point. Only 300,000 (worldwide) people have purchased this game so far, so I worry about its future. With that little sales obviously no many people really care about 256 players aspect of the game. They should be selling it on how its not like COD MW2 just like BF:BC did. Its the teamwork and sense of accomplishment that makes this game fun, not the total number of players on the map.

If they had lower the player count to 120, and upped the graphics I think this game would have sold better. I assume though this is really a test of sorts in order to prove that higher player counts are possible on the console. That actually kind of pisses me off, but whatever.

Fun game though.
