Tecmo Koei Posts $20M Loss, Blames Wii Despite Miyamoto Support

Koei Tecmo posted a 1.84 billion yen ($20.4 million) loss in its third quarter, blaming the results on poor Wii sales of Samurai Warriors 3. The publisher's major Wii title, despite star power support from Miyamoto and others, failed to attract Japanese gamers.

It's hard to find reviews for this game, but I'm surprised considering Miyamoto and Japanese superstar GACKT supported the game so publicly.

Damn, Itagaki jumped the boat just on time :P

IdleLeeSiuLung4802d ago

Not only that, but it will probably get worse for Tecmo now that Itagaki is gone.

He was the single shining star in the company that made Tecmo any good games. Hayashi on the other hand as far as I know hasn't made any games from scratch yet so it remains to be seen....

Can't believe for only a $100-200k they would let Itagaki go. That is fairly easily earned yearly by a good game designer let alone a veteran like Itagaki whom made DoA and rebooted NG series.

Looking forward to Itagaki's next game!

This is what happens when you have a public case about one of your lead developers not being happen then freakin' merges with a company who continuously makes the same game over...and over...and over again.

Itagaki definitely departed at an excellent time. I wonder if Microsoft picked him up yeah to develop games on the 360. If not, wonder what the hell he's doing now. I know him and a few colleagues from Tecmo were starting a new company - that's all we know.

and dont see myself buying any tecmo games any time soon(like quantum trash).

Bnet3434802d ago

I'm glad. Every since Itagaki left, Tecmo can rot. You can't cheat your franchise developer like that. Hope they keep losing money with the Dynasty/Samurai/Gundam/CatPoo Warriors 783457. /vent

haha Tecmo a shell of what you once were.. Itagaki is prolly kicking back in his shades right now with a grin on his face.

IanCube4802d ago

True that, they passed up that Square Enix merger too!

IdleLeeSiuLung4802d ago

Square Enix probably would have been a better deal for shareholders than Koei, but I guess they were at a disadvantage when it comes to negotiations with SE.

IanCube4802d ago

Who will pick up this game when it hits the US?

I think I might...

bigjclassic4802d ago

I think everyone as gamers have moved on from these mindless games.

IanCube4802d ago

That's what I thought too, but I haven't been able to find any reviews from Japan of the game, anyone have links?

Tony P4802d ago

It scored quite well in Famitsu: 9/8/9/8

Japan buy the Dynasty Warriors game the same way casual gamers in North America buy Wii Fit and Carnival Games.

maniacmayhem4802d ago

Yes blame the Wii for lack of content, poor sales and mediocre games.

Besides Ninja Gaiden, what did this company put out?

Bodyboarder_VGamer4802d ago (Edited 4802d ago )

Dead or Alive.

Which in my opinion is one of the best 3D fighting games around, the same with Ninja Gaiden. Both basically created by Itagaki.

I really miss that guy, if only some company hired him but he is so c0cky and considering how the Japaneses are unless he comes to the US or create his own company I don't think he'll find any more jobs.
