16 Year-old Boy Kills for a Playstation

Bond set for 16-year-old charged in Cedar Rapids murder

Denum Anthony Null, 16, is facing a first-degree murder charge and, now, a $1 million cash bond.

In his initial appearance on Saturday morning at the Linn County Courthouse, Null listened and nodded as Judge Casey Jones agreed with the prosecution's call for a $1 million cash bond.

Jones set Null's next court appearance for Tuesday, February 9th at 8:30 a.m.

In the criminal complaint, investigators state that, during a felony robbery on January 12th, Null shot Kevin Bell, 26, in the head, resulting in his death. The robbery occurred at 113 1st Avenue SW, Apt. K, in downtown Cedar Rapids.

Cedar Rapids police say, at about 10:15 on Friday morning, they captured Null in a residence at 1510 4th Avenue SE.

Police said earlier that, on the night of the robbery, three men broke into the apartment on 1st Avenue where Bell was staying and asked for a PlayStation video gaming system and that one of the three men shot Bell.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety website had a "Denem Null" listed as a missing person. The criminal complaint lists Null as using both "Denem" and "Denum".

A county attorney on the case said Null will be tried as an adult. If convicted on the first-degree murder charge, Null would face a life sentence in prison.

It's sad too see so little people appreciating the gravity of the matter.

PS3 = $299

kill = take a life

Therefore:
Take a life = PS3
kill = $299

this boy could have easily been hired as a hitman to kill a guy for $299 and bought the ps3 while under protection of his mob. He wouldn't have been caught because they are very organized and he wouldn't be in jail. Simple logic here folks.
But may the man RIP.

pimpmaster5566d ago

this is so messed up, poor guy that got killed. i swear man , they should change the laws to where if someone kills someone else once their convicted the family of the deceased should have the right to execute the criminal. poor 28 year old guy just died for no reason.

FACTUAL evidence5566d ago

PS3, it only does everything...

Tony P5566d ago

Very few things in the world worth dying over. Gaming should not one of them.

jadenkorri5566d ago

nothing new about that in US, the most dangerous job in America is a convenience store clerk.

silvacrest5565d ago

people have killed for less so this is not surprise

RIP

mfwahwah5565d ago

wow really, only 299$ for a PS3 yet this jerk killed someone

If I were him at 16 yrs old I would have gotten a job and worked long and hard and then earned a PS3.

but no, this retard goes in and kills someone for a PS3, and now doesn't get to play one because he's charged with first degree murder

The allure of the PS3 made him do it. Video games are evil and now controlling the minds of the young and impressionable.

It couldn't be other outstanding factors like parents and environment could it?

ShinFuYux5566d ago

I wouldn't fully blame him. Yes, what he did was wrong, but you also have to think where he's from, what kind of society he lives in, who he was with.

To me, if this kid goes down, his parents and friends and the family of his friends should also get charged. Everyone around that kid influenced him one way or the other, his parents where incompetent, his friends where ignorant, and the parents of those kids are irresponsible and also incompetent.

Kurylo3d5566d ago

dude... dont try to push this blame around... yea he was raised wrong, yea... he was in a tough neighborhood. cry me a river... he deserves the death penalty. Hes damaged goods... he commited his actions and intended to commit them cause he thought he was tough. Lets see how tough he is when he gets raped in prison. Hes about to become someones little btch.

Im sure his defense team is going to use your same argument... but unfortunately, that argument wouldnt stand if he was 2 years older. So why should it stand for him.

Valcore015566d ago (Edited 5566d ago )

@4
That is jumping to conclusions a bit. We have no idea who his parents were and what they have tried already. They might have been good parents and this kid just got in with the wrong crowd and it got bad early. The only thing you can reasonably say right now is that this kid mad a REALLY STUPID choice and is going to spend a long time paying for it.
