Electronic Theatre reports on a survey conducted by VoucherCodes.co.uk which reveals that the UK gaming public are ready to embrace Apple's iTablet as a new gaming device, ahead of it's official unveiling later today.
I actually find this quite surprising - the DS and PSP are well established, and though the iPhone is doing well, the iTablet/iSlate/iThing is an unknown quantity. Perhaps that's why it did so well? Based purely on expectation that it may or may not deliver upon...
until they see the price for the thing.. analyst expect 700 bucks.. preferring is a different matter to affording.. i would probably get one but they aren't cheap..
When the dust settles, I don't think you will find it a real good gaming machine. I have games for my iphone, and I can't stand playing it without a controller. The touch and tilt just doesn't do it for me. the 700 dollar est. price tag will probably slow all that noise. It sounds like an incredible machine, and they will probably sell a ton of them, but to compare them to the ds or psp, I think not.
buttons and joysticks FTW
I agree with that completely, but that's not to say touch has it's advantages of it's own. If the next PSP had DUAL ANALOG and also included touch screen and motion sensing, I would definitely be on board.
that is my dream, give it phone functions and i finally have a true all in one device
I see the tablet being a different experience, entirely. There is enough real estate there for some more complex touch actions than you can get on the iphone screen. I'm anxious to see what they come up with here, but I'm also prepared to watch the locust horde of Apple zombies descend on anyone who stirs them up.
well, its working for the DS. ;) the next PsP will NEED to have dual joysticks. it doesnt even need a touchscreen, but the tech is so cheap now a days, i imagine it will.
I'll be scared walking around with this on concrete or whatever hard surface... or get jacked in school campus. Anyway, watch this MS table: http://www.youtube.com/watc... For RTS gamers: http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I can't take the Apple devices serious. Fun for Tabletop tap games but that's about it.
I doubt the focus of the itablet is on gaming...at least not anything more than what the iphone offers....I guess we will find out soon enough.
I have to deal with the same B.S shovelware apps that's on the iPhone. Then no.
(USA here) Hell no, never. And how many did they poll? 100?
Yet again 3000 people somehow equals the whole UK?
If the pool (age gender etc.) used for said research is representative for the population of the UK it could be considered as representative for the whole population to a certain degree of course. Though a larger number of people surveyed would reduce the deviation of the research.
Misleading title, 3000 people means nothing compared to the UK population which is 60+ million. Try doing a percentage then. ;)
-->"would"<-- as in "never actually tried". The unknown is always more alluring than the known.
why is it being compared to ds and psp? and it looks more like a COMPUTER than anything else.. sheesh, it looks nice, but not for gaming, ca you play l4d2? or other windows games on it (i dont care for halo) apple doesnt have that many compatible games... pc games
touch control games are a complete mess. It's fun for random score based games but anything with depth (platformers, action) get's hampered by horrible controls.
touch games arnt nothing but a fade,a fade that will stay lol. but i dont think you can be hardcore on the thing. who knows tho. but yea,why wouldnt anyone want a ds or psp when they can have this thing.
I heard an $800 price tag, instead of $700 but I guess we'll all find out. I don't see why people would be excited about something with no physical buttons as a gaming platform. You'd have to use on screen buttons placed near the edges so you could still grasp the tablet and use your thumbs. Forget about shoulder buttons or thumb sticks on a tablet. Plus if you drop a DS it's what, only $120 but can you imagine someone bumping into you and you drop a $800 lightweight piece of stuff that would be completely ruined?
that wont be stuck with apple lol.
So basically 49% of the UK have more money than sense. I remember when the gadget show did their "gadget of the decade" and the iPhone was voted as number 1. Says it all really.
Until the hype dies down and people get a clear head and understanding of the product, before asking a survey?
but but but Hacked PSP is the best
My father always complain that his Apple's Laptop is too big and heavy and the iPhone is too small to him to use to check e-mails and etc. I belive that many ppl that wants a laptop just to check e-mails, type text and other simple things like this would like to try out this super slim "laptop"computer.
