Quick Time Events: When and When Not to Use Them

Though Yu Suzuki coined the term Quick Time Event (QTE) back in 1999 to describe Shenmue's gameplay system, the act of hitting buttons in time with on-screen prompts to move a game forward is an age-old concept, one you still see in most AAA games today. However, many people feel that these prompts remove control from the player, relegating him or her to a bystander role while the game essentially plays itself. It's a valid argument, especially as you enter an age where interactivity and immersion are critical to success.

The story is too old to be commented.

QTE has its place, but it has been waaaay overused by developers. Great article, btw.
