These are the official Halo Reach screenshots and concept art posted by Bungie.
These are what people have been waiting for! Looks how detailed the Marine is in this picture! http://www.bungie.net/image...
I have to admit, it looks great so far. And is it true these are just pre-alpha or alpha screens?
Bungie confirmed it on Twitter and on their Forums. http://terminalgamer.com/20...
Halo: Reach, it only does everything
Looks awesome. I really like this screenshot http://www.bungie.net/image... A lot more dynamic lights are being used and I think that will really add to the atmosphere.
Modern Warfare 2 still looks better and it's multiplatform. I don't care if it's pre-alpha. Developers can say anything. Given there track record they haven't proven me anything.
There is no way Modern Warfare 2 looks better. The textures and lighting are both superior in Halo Reach. Halo Reach http://www.bungie.net/image... Modern Warfare 2 http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/... Don't get me wrong Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best looking FPS, but Halo Reach is simply more graphically advanced.
@Gamer No, MW2 looks better in those pics. Halo Reach ground textures are mediocre not even average. And the spartans(or whatever they are) are bland with not that many colors. Halo has always had lighting and Halo 3 was one of the most glossiest games, so what do they bring to the table this time with Halo Reach?
This game looks old school lol
This has potential but the problem I have with all these screenshots (and I really don't know why NOBODY has ever mentioned this) is that whilst they are claiming to be using the game engine, none of them are actually in-game shots; There is not a single photo with a HUD and a gun. A couple blurry said shots popped up a few months back and they looked not much different from what we've seen before and until I've seen something official, there's no way I can judge what this will end up looking like.. The difference with Killzone 2 was that, although screenshots like the above are so called 'bullshots' (just like these Halo: Reach pics in this article), they went on to prove that in game graphics were of a similar quality. Bungie haven't proved any such thing yet so I think it's reasonable to say KZ2 still sets the standards for FPS. Lets just wait and see..
@ heroprotagonist Thanks for making such a great post, dude. All your points are factual and your logical arguments are well constructed. I agree with your screenshot comparison too... the textures in kz2 in those screens really tell the story... and it ain't what's been perpetuated by the sony fanboys. ON topic: These Halo reach screenshots look absolutely fabulous in HD. I am reaaally looking forward to this game. No doubt there are over 10+ million others just like me.
Look at the fear Halo Reach creates for pre alpha screens, now imagine that fear close to release.
Good observation. They know Halo Reach looks incredible and they know the kind of quality Bungie is known for; that is the only reason they are acting so defensive. Anyway, right now I am waiting for Mass Effect 2 to get here and Halo Reach feels so far away in comparison, but I know that it is going to be one of the standout games of the year and I think it is already looking amazing.
The Halo series finally looks like a true current-gen title.
better lighting, textures, shadows... it's just a darker game. A game for grown folks... This looks really promising. Haters wanna hate! there is no reason to bash this game fanbois....
These are "in-engine" But not being rendered on a 360. LOL @ any disagrees. If you seriously think Reach will play in native 1080p with that much Anti-aliasing, you're nuts.
Could this be the first console FPS with native 1080p?
@ Luna Valhalla please do a research before you make a fool out of yourself. Here, http://www.bungie.net/image...
Great screen shots right there. If we can choose which character to use in the Story mode I want to play with the Skull head guy. http://www.bungie.net/image... :D
The detail is absolutely phenomenal.
Yep, Halo Reach is going to be a beast.
Yep, that's what Halo Reach would look like maxed out on a PC. But not rendering on a 360.
the guy with the black armor looks like a tank, so [email protected]
Looks great. Hopefully the gameplay will be great too. I have no doubts, it's Bungie and Halo.
It really does look great, I want to see it in motion.
Yeah, I want to see it in motion too. I mean, the VGA trailer was confirmed to be completely in-engine (with only extra anti-aliasing added) and that looked amazing, but I want to see some actual gameplay. I just watched that trailer again and it still amazes me. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
please stop it bungie ,the ps3 dreams are being shattered but but but but but the cell only does linear, low texture, railshooting games(easy to make the imgae quilty "seem" good) while halo reach has insane detial, massive open worlds to explore, all verhicles can be driven, and now the sky box is actually part of the enrioment u can reall intreact with . there is nothing on console that is close to reach in graphics and scop nothing ! @ppl screaming 1080p ? were is the link stating these are 1080p,its in 720p but i know the game looks that sharp its called the 360 hardware gpu is a beast we 360 owners get sharp looking games while ps3 is blurzoneturd
your making yourself sound very silly
wow the detail is unbelievable
1080P Screenshots? How can a screen shot be 1080P, does this poster know what 1080P is? The graphics look really nice though but i still wouldn't buy a 360. Hopefully this will turn out to play as good as it looks. Grats to the 360 owners getting a good looking game at last.
Technically it probably doesn't mean 1920x1080 res, but that's obviously what it refers to.
If you or anyone else doesn't own both consoles BY NOW then your lost causes.
the difference is that interlaced isn't actually 1920 x 1080. Calling these images 1080p is technically correct.
"Grats to the 360 owners getting a good looking game at last." Gears of War 1/2... Mass Effect 2...
I'm pointing out that the use of 1080P in the title is like this is mega awesome look at me and implies that the game is 1080P when in reality the game will never run in 1080P. I don't want to start a 1080P debate here as the game looks great and people should talk about that, but the phrase 1080P is thrown about when it doesn't really make that much of a difference when it runs at 1080P or 1080i or even 720p. It's become a stupid thing that people tag on to get attention when they really don't know the correct way to use the term. I just get annoyed that people use it and even go as far as to lie and trick people in to thinking it is when it clearly isn't. Rant over!
@ MurderDolls Very true. Mass Effect 2 looks absolutely amazing. Like any game it has its own strengths and weaknesses, but overall I would put it up there with any of the best looking games.
Goboz nobody was saying that halo reach was going to run 1080p native, it's very common to have 1080p shots of games on this site because it provides an upclose sharp look of what the game looks like. Everyone know's it not going to run 1080p native so there is no need to rant. You must have spent 2 minutes typing that rant for no reason because I've read every comment and not one states that the game will run in 1080p native.
I don't own a PS3, IMO both systems are pretty equal and if you own one, you don't really need the other.
.... seriously, about the same ground textures and character models in terms of graphics...
No way. Resistance is not that nice looking of a game. Modern Warfare and Halo 3 already looked better than Resistance 2, and Halo Reach is far better looking.
http://www.bungie.net/image... I really, really hope they add proper shadows under objects like the pallet of sandbags. Almost everything inside that room looks fullbright, and it's really off putting imo.
I noticed that too, hope it's fixed soon :D
Pre-Alpha pictures FYI
We already have ME2, Reach will be the iceing on the cake.
ok, i will admit character modeling looks fantastic. The environment looks exactly out of halo 3. I think anyone would prefer a detailed environment to play in over player modeling. Bungie, please do something to the environment! Add some better textures and you will actually have a true next gen halo.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum... the environments are in their first pass during that build, grass and foliage will be added, and we have yet to see the weather effects implemented. The atmosphere and skies are absolutely stunning though. http://www.bungie.net/image...
I think a lot of people are confused. The environmental texture quality is actually quite good. What I think people are wanting is to see more random stuff laying around, like junk and stuff (as in Killzone 2 or MW2 for example). But that is not really Halo's main style and we might get that look only in a couple of areas. Personally I like the nice clean sci-fi look of Halo and I hope they don't deviate too far from that. @Xi Wow, that screenshot you posted looks stunning. It looks a lot like a high quality painting come to life.
hmmmm looks on par with mag:)
in terms of graphics...
Uh huh and Super Mario 64 looks better than Uncharted 2./s Funny, funny fanboys....
You've shown the fans something they'll never see!
Some people think they'll be getting a 1080p Halo Reach, apparently. They really don't do the fanbase justice.
but still not as good as gears 2...
Completely different games running on a different engine. Obvious right? Well did you know that Unreal engine 3 textures are pure crap? Please zoom in with a sniper rifle in gears 2 and tell me what you see. Textures that look like mud is what you'll see. The new halo engine looks like they provide lots of detail, Hopefully the claims of 640p like halo 3 are false.
I'm pretty sure Bungie already confirmed that it would be 720p. To tell the truth, though, resolution is several notches down the totem pole in terms of impact on graphics. MGS4 was sub-HD and so was Halo 3 and they both looked really great. There are a lot more important graphical considerations than resolution. Gears of War 2 is still a great looking game, but this game surpasses it because it has much better lighting, in addition to the great textures and character models, etc.
Not much else to say.More interested in new Gameplay modes. That's where Halo outdo others with replay value.
if the graphics in the screenshots are anything to go by then yes but graphics don't make a game do they.........but it's got Halo's gameplay, and that, after all these years, is second to none. Only possibile on the 360 - where gaming dreams come true. Jump in, play more, stay in.
"Only possibile on the 360 - where gaming dreams come true. Jump in, play more, stay in." man i hope your not looking for a job in marketing because that little slogan sounds like pure [email protected]
please don't make me laugh, GOW III says hi, don't get me wrong I am interested in Halo, but , i hate it when deluded fanboys consider every x360 game better than PS3 exclusives, a fact which has not been proven and even professionals do not agree, which is why uncharted 2 got GOTY and the best graphics award. in case you are in doubt look at those screen shots again and then look at these screen shots http://www.playstationunive...
looks good to me... again, i'll make a better judgment when i see hi-res fmv
360 has no such worries keeping up based on these What's more Reach requires heavy AI tracking, stress and damage calculations that don't even figure in other games of this type- and yet it still manages to look this good.40 fully independent AI all present at the same time is a very impressive achievement and it's really quite a miracle Bungie has visuals this pretty despite this In comparison games like Resistance2 for example don't really have large groups of sophisticated AI(Grim i think), rather they're all fed the same target data- Halo has lists of decision trees for each of it's AI Bungie's variety to situations is because of all these insane calculations but stupidly this never ever figures in people's argument Fact is if Reach looks this good then games that don't require such heavy demands from their engine can potentially be even better These shots are a clear evidence that 360 manages visuals just fine and the idea is absurd that it's somehow behind the might of PS3
Does not match PS3.Believe what you want but this does not match Killzone,UC2,GT5,Heavy Rain or GOW3 for visuals.I know 360 fans are desperate for that, but please stop believing.Enjoy the game for what it is to fans of the series. The best game they can play. I don't understand why 360 owners can't be happy with their lot.PS2 owners accepted that Xbox 1 was more powerful.360 has many good games due this year but it just will not technically match the best PS3 games, that is no reflection on gameplay.I'm not even saying 360 games will look bad, some look very good. There is a major flaw on all screens shown so far.Very small draw distance and lots of fog.May be just for atmosphere but it doesn't look like it.
Strickers, you are just a diehard fanboy. It is you that is desperate to believe that the PS3 is more powerful, despite all the evidence to the contrary. "I don't understand why 360 owners can't be happy with their lot.PS2 owners accepted that Xbox 1 was more powerful." The difference is that the Xbox WAS more powerful than the PS2. It was obvious and proven a hundred times over. The Xbox had better looking multiplatform games. The Xbox had better looking exclusives. Developers told us the Xbox was more much more powerful. All the evidence pointed in one direction. Now, compare that with the current situation. The 360 has better looking multiplatform games. Both consoles have some exceptional looking exclusives. Developers tell us the two consoles are very close in power. The lead engineer of the CPUs in both consoles tells us they are very close in power. Developers like Id tell us it takes them twice the effort to get the same result on the PS3 as on the 360. In other words, all the evidence points to both consoles being pretty close in power, if not the 360 being a little more efficient and powerful.
@el zorro any techie can tell you that PS3 is better, even though admittedly the GPU is better in the X360, The simple Fact that the PS3 uses the Cell's unique architecture to actually process graphical and logical data(typically a GPU normally handles all graphical processing, however PS3 dev's use SPU's) mean that not only PS3 can have better looking games, but they have more object, more complicated calculation and a better draw distance. Not all multiplatform games are better on x360, in fact look at the latest editions (apart from bayonetta), like Dragon Age, Darksiders, but not many websites gives credit to that. Look at Heavy Rain and GOW III, Halo:Reach is setting new standards on x360, but you really have to be a fanboy if you can't admit, that those PS3 exclusives do look better. X360 is still behind, but I do congratulate bungie on making an effort on Halo:Reach, hope Natal does not ruin it, because this is the first Halo I am interested in since Halo 1.
i'm sure it will be a great game. enjoy it
