Next week marks the launch of two very important exclusive titles for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. On January 26, Mass Effect 2 from BioWare and MAG from Zipper Interactive are set to do battle when the clock strikes midnight at GameStop.

If you can, get both, Mag seems like a very solid online shooter made by zipper, and Bioware's ME2 is an instant classic.

Don't worry. As a PS3 guy I definitely agree that MAG isn't a killer app. It's not just unpolished. It's just... another bland military shooter in a sea of bland military shooters.

MAG cheered me up after hating SOCOM so much, but I don't mind waiting for Bad Company 2 to play a war game. It depends on how many people on my friends list are playing MAG whether I get it or not.

It's guys like you that make console owners look bad; I'm sure there's a few of you that also are fanboys on both sides, but think of this you must think the the console you own is so bad in your own mind that you have to pull cheap tricks like this on a board chock-full of people who's minds you'll never change.

When I see fanboy stunts like this, that only shows that you subliminally acknowledge that you feel that the console you own is inferior, which justifies your actions in your own mind.

I have no problem both praising both games and chastising the bad parts.

MAG and ME2 art the antithesis of each other:

ME2 will have a strong story but will lack multiplayer as far as I know (trying to avoid stories because I don't want to hear the plot). That's okay: that's like Heavenly Sword, but ME will be more in depth and longer, of course.

MAG has a very strong multiplayer component, but as far as we know, a thin to non-existent storyline.

To be honest, it's all about which you prefer.

If you like good stories, Mass Effect 2 is likely to please.

If you like multiplayer games, MAG is likely to please.

Do not mistake one for the other.

I'm still on the fence myself. I like Mass Effect's story and I want to complete it before Splinter Cell: Conviction comes out. I hate delaying on games with stories because I'll hear a little and know where the story is going easily.

MAG was a surprise, I didn't think I'd like it; especially since I'm so bad at SOCOM and was a lot better at MAG. MAG has not much of a story as far as I know, so it really doesn't matter when I pick it up; but then again, a lot of my SOCOM friends and my clan will be playing MAG, and I like to play with them.

I'll probably get whatever one I think will stay $60 bucks longer first, then get the other one when it drops in price.

I have both systems, but I am going to be trading in my 360, so I'm getting MAG. I loved the first Mass Effect, it was my favorite game for the 360. If ME2 doesn't come to the PS3, Oh well. If it does, I'll get it then. I want Heavy Rain and God of War 3 the most, so I'm gonna use my cash from the 360 to get them. MAG is defintiely a fun experience, you just have to get used to it. I had a lot of really good teammates that ended up being my friends, just from the beta. While ME2 is probably going to have better quality, MAG will have more replay value from me, this coming fom someone who loved ME1, and only played it once, same thing will happen second time around.

I have a PC but I will be buying MAG on the release day. I have been itching to play it since I realized the beta didn't transfer stats and quit playing it. Mass Effect will probably get cheap quickly since that is how 360/PC games go. PS3 games are slow burners and take forever to get cheap, unless the games suck eg SOCOM.

It would be Mass effect 2, because I've been waiting for so long for it and I'm still playing MW2 which would keep me satisfied for my online FPS for a little while. But I decided to finally sell my dust collecting Wii and pick up both of them plus paid off my BioShock 2 pre-order. I'm looking forward to MAG and to see how well it plays out. Everythng that I have heard about it is that there is no lag at all. I'll take that and slightly worse graphics, but from the videos I have seen the graphic look great to me. Everyone that is picking it up I'll see you on the battle field.

b) So laggy it failed in the main point of it, which was to provide an immersive FPS for hundreds of players.

So, sorry, Planetside is not up to the mark - and it's a Sony game, strangely enough.

Tribes - bah, I never saw anything like 256 people in it. Either way, that game was laggy as hell too.

The problem is you're trying to compare MMO style games (admittedly with FPS elements) to a proper FPS.

To reduce this game to 256 players is a disservice to the game. It has a lot more going for it than people are giving it credit for. The structure isn't just run and gun like most fps'. It is very tactical it forces you to play as a team. The leveling up is sweat and the ability to respec is really great I wish ME had that. So many times you level up and then realize that what you thought would be sweet actually sucks.

To just FPS' by MW2 is just wrong. If you had said COD4 then I'd be like okay well you just don't like the genre but you owe it to yourself to actually get a good game to judge the genre. You may not like twitch shooters of which COD, Halo and Resistance are. Killzone 2, MAG and Team Fortress 2 offer class based leveling which you may appreciate from an RPG perspective. The former 2 are also weightier than the twitch shooter so you have to work to get your kills.

I'm not a RPG guy so I'm not planning on to buy ME2 at all. I haven't enjoyed any RPG games that I've played except Pokemon on GameBoy.

Oh, another thing for those above saying that MAG isn't polished enough. In case you guys didn't know, the graphics has improved in Phase 5 compared to other beta phases... I will expect it to be more polished for the final game but if it's the same as phase 5 beta, then it'll be good enough.

Read the IGN review I would seriously recommend you get the first mass effect before playing the second. EA is selling the first one for $10 on PC and if you have a 360 you can probably get it for cheaper at gamestop.

Gamestop? Do PS3 owners buy games at Gamestop? 360 owners are the only people that shop at Gamestop. Toys R Us and Target are there for selling games to Wii owners. Best Buy and Amazon are the real places for the PS3 crowd.

While I agree ME2 will be a better quality game I'm still going for MAG. I am not a fanboy, I really just don't like when developers make a game exclusive when they don't have to. There was an interview with Bioware saying that the game property is theirs and Microsoft has no control over it. Insomniac on the other hand is working for SONY because they have been for over 10 years, and also the IPs they work on are SONY owned. If they decide to make their own IP and go multiplat, I'm all for it. Also I don't like exclusives being "paid" for, I think thats stupid. If a company wants to work specifically for you (Insomniac/Valve) let them do so...but don't pay them off. Thats cheap and shameless. I would buy Valve games, but I hate Left 4 Dead, and the companies attitude towards the PS3, it's just a machine for goodness sakes, and Portal is the only thing I thought was cool. But seriously MAG for me, at least until Heavy Rain comes out...which is another story. They were desperate so they went to SONY with their idea, so thats why its exclusive to the PS3. Not because they don't want to do it on the 360, though I think it really utilizes the PS3 power.

It would probably be best to buy both. However, if you're tight on cash, it may be best to get Mass Effect 2 (from my perspective).

Now at first I didn’t really care for it. I think I thought it would just be MW just on a larger scale, but after about an hour or so I began to play differently (like a person apart of a team and not some sole hero) and I started to have a lot of fun. In my opinion even the growth and advancement system is deeper and better. After playing the open beta the whole week (sad face that it ended that Sunday.) I reluctantly went back to MW2 and I just couldn’t enjoy it….while Mw2 can be fun its own right (when everyone is playing the correct way) but is just TOO unbalanced. Commando, Akimbo shotgun wielding douche bags who can apparently kill you a quarter of a mile away >= ( and other things. MAG showed me that heroes die and no One soldier is more important than the platoon and I respect it for that. I traded Mw2 in like a week and a half ago and haven’t looked back. ( by the way before any of you say or suggest it no I didn’t suck at it, I was in the top 200,000 out of like 4,000,000,000 people on PSN)

But to be fair, you cant really compare ME2 and MAG they are two very different games. ME1 was great though. But Ill be getting MAG hands down. I hear ME2 is only about 20 hours long lol and I need something a little longer and I know multiplayer will hold me off till heavy rain.

yeah, I was retorted, and got the Beta on the Saturday before the sunday it ended, and that's all I played. Everyone who says it's garbage either hasn't played it, or only played it for 30 minutes, before giving up. Yes, it takes a little time put in, but once you learn the ins and outs of it it's truly incredible.

I already have my MAG preorder paid off, since my first 10 min in the game I have been wanting it bad. That game is going to occupy all of my time till God of War 3 comes out.

Honestly IMHO I think the people that weren't satisfied with MAG were probably trying to play the game Rambo style and never paid attention to the objectives of the game or the points the earned when going up levels. If you want a game where strategy and coordination pay off then MAG is the game for you.

I loved MAG, but lets be real. MAG is a new IP that not many know about. Mass Effect 2 is a sequel that a lot of people are looking forward too. ME2 will get the midnight release due to its fan following.
MAG is not a bad game though like a lot of 360 fans say it is. i think its better than MW2 by far. But ME2 i think is the better quality here, and actually think ME2 is probably one of the best 360 exclusives. i will be picking up both though.

after the move, i'm getting White Knight Chronicles, then Heavy Rain, then God of War 3.

once i have those, i'll see about getting Mass Effect 2 on my 360(it'll also give me time to finally beat the first one).

you know, it's not a rule that you have to go out and buy the game on day one. sometimes circumstances make it impossible for you to pick it up day one.

i didn't get Valkyria Chronicles on launch because i just didn't have the money at the time to buy it then and there. i eventually got it the following year at the Gamestop sale when it was $30 new.

i'm really looking forward to ME2, and MAG has me intrigued, but i'm not big on MP only games, but i just can't afford them now.

Mag has it all. I'm all rpg'd out from demons souls & I never beat
valkiria chronicles. I'm still playing god of war collection & ninja gaiden 2.
I have tekken6 trophies to get before the movie comes out. I play socom confrontation religously.
I enjoy killzone2 still & uncharted 2. I gave up on fallout3 & gta4 trophies until I get some motivation for them.

Basically, I'm too busy to care about mass effect2.
It will come & go but mag is here to stay... For hundreds & hundreds of hours.
Who knows what surprises I'll see out there. It's a very serious game where as mass effect 2 is like a cartoon mini series on the Disney channel.

me too. love that game especially the new maps. what clan are you in ? im TNS , challenge us to a clan battle sometime . as for mag its socom 1st person, if you treat it like that and dont try to be a rambo youll love it. i levelled up to 20 0dd before the public beta ended , shame the stats dont transfer over but ah well . day1 for me it beats the hell out of modern warfare 2 and i was a huge cod 4 player putting in hundreds of hours to that game for over 2 years. mw2 was crap compared to cod4 . i didnt even prestige once before dropping out. overhyped and i was sucked right in . never again will i buy a cod game.

When you beat the game after 20 hours I want you to realize that I'll be still playing mag for about 300 hours.
Still think xbl is worth it? Lol ok... For 20 hours you're running the meter sitting in a parking lot.
Meanwhile, I'll be generically shooting 120 generic guys & blowing up generic outpost with my generic teamates hopping out of generic planes with parachutes & generically owning online.

Mag is the game you guys will be wondering about after mass effect because it will bring back the wonderful argument of xboxlive fees & uselessness. Also, it will damage any online game on xbox360 even more than resistance2, killzone2, uncharted2 & demons souls has done when speaking of online capabilities.

My 360 just got the RROD for the 4th time last Friday. My bday was a few days ago so I have enough money for both and right now I want ME 2 more. I have MAG in my gamefly que and I always get PS3 games from there on day one so I think I'm gonna go that route.
I just hate the fact that I have to wait almost 3 weeks to get to play ME 2.

My PC is able to run Crysis on High settings and resolution. Also, I already have Mass Effects 1 for the PC. Superior hardward. You can't challenge superiority of the PCs.

I was not in the MAG beta, but 256 players baby! I'm a PC guy and even I get excited for this numbers of players, it's their Unique Selling Point. There's simply no substitute for what Zipper is doing with FPS genre. Will definitely get this game.

Probably get Mass Effects 2 later because it is single player. I want to keep up with the competition in MAG multiplayer.

It's always shocking when a PS3 exclusive gets a midnight launch at Gamestop, which I must agree seems very anti-PS3. Not sure where those above get their info regarding MAG not being cared about by PS3 owners. Everyone on my list who has played it loves it, with the exception of my little brother who is addicted to the mindless style of MW2. Everyone I've talked to on Home about MAG loves it also. I would recommend MAG to people who, like me, are burned out on the typical FPS such as... just about all of them, including the Halo series, the Resistance series, the CoD series, and the Killzone series. In my opinion the FPS genre hasn't seen significant advancement, other than graphics and sound, in well over a decade.

This game is a hardcore shooter that does require alot of coordination so alot of people will be turned off by it. That is why alot of people jump off of Warhawk because they try and play the lone ranger and end up getting their @sses handed to them by the other team that is actually coordinating attacks.
