GameStop Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 2 or MAG?

Next week marks the launch of two very important exclusive titles for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. On January 26, Mass Effect 2 from BioWare and MAG from Zipper Interactive are set to do battle when the clock strikes midnight at GameStop.

Which are you picking up?

If you have both systems, and are strapped for cash... get Mass Effect 2

MAG just doesn't have enough polish to warrant it a "Must Buy".

Then again opinions are like ... well you get the point ;)

Bungie5206d ago

i didn't like MAG beta ...need more polish

so i have to go with ME 2 baby :)

Mista T5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

I agree, I own both systems and I think ME2 is more worthy of a full purchase, especially with these two being so close date wise for release

Saaking5206d ago

You don't own a PS3 bungie. You have no choice.

mrv3215206d ago

'i didn't like MAG beta ...need more polish'

HENCE THE TERM 'BETA' BETA DOES NOT MEAN FINAL GAME DEMO, IT'S FOR THE DEVELOPERS TO TEST IT THEIR GAME OUT.

Beta's are not demos' don't pretend they are just to hate on it. Ok. Here's an example

'Mass Effect 2 pre-alpha had bugs... I'm not buying the game'

That's effectively what your saying. Or how about this Natal Tech demo glitched Natal doesn't work. See what I mean. It simply doesn't make sense to judge something ON A BETA.

deadreckoning6665206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

LOL, no need to explain urself Silent Shark. Its widely understood that not even PS3 loyalists care about M.A.G. I have a PS3 and think M.A.G is just a useless ploy by Sony to show everyone that their system can handle 256 people in one match. No more, no less.

If I had a 360, I'd buy Mass Effect 2 hands down.

@huflungpu90- Bad Company 2 is MULTIPLATFORM and it will own M.A.G left and right. Theres no need for you to make fun of MW2 to make ur point.

krouse935206d ago

I'm going to Buy MAG on PS3 and get Mass Effect 2 for my PC when it drops price during a steam sale in a few weeks. I don't really have time for an RPG like that right now.

thereapersson5206d ago

I LOVE those commercials. Kevin Butler is definitely the right man for the job :)

-MD-5206d ago

Serious question? Mass Effect 2 hands down.

Raf1k15206d ago

lol yeh they're great. First time seing that one.

I think I'd go with ME2 myself but I need to wait to get this project of mine finished before I buy it.

Solidus187-SCMilk5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

Ill defiantly rent MAG and see what the final game is like to see if I want to buy it.

Montrealien5206d ago

If you can, get both, Mag seems like a very solid online shooter made by zipper, and Bioware's ME2 is an instant classic.

With that said, by the games you want, on the consoles you have.

Also, shameless plug time, my stpre is having one of the few midnight launches for both games in Montreal, if you want more info, send me a PM.

TROLL EATER5206d ago

mass effect 2 game of the year contender

MAG unknown game will be washed away

LEGENDARY PELON5206d ago

Of course ME2!
It's a dumb question actually.

Its like saying, "Will you pick up Halo Reach or GOW3" if they were to come out on the same day.

Of course Halo Reach!
and im sure another 4m people will do it as well!

Arnon5206d ago

Yup. I'm heading in for Mass Effect 2. I'll get MAG later down the line if I'm not completely broke by the end of this year.

raztad5206d ago

I'm gonna get ME2 for the cheap later on steam, still need to finish the first. MAG is already preordered, I want to be fighting the Shadow War from day one. No need for midnight launches.

jwatt5206d ago

I hope Mag does well but I think it's Sony's weakest link in terms of 1st party exclusives. I played both betas and that just didn't cut it for me. I still have to cancel my pre-order or switch it to a different game.

Timesplitter145206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

Don't worry. As a PS3 guy I definitely agree that MAG isn't a killer app. It's not just unpolished. It's just... another bland military shooter in a sea of bland military shooters.

Mass Effect 2 looks great in every aspect. Already pre-purchased on steam.

Marceles5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

I'm getting ME2 the first day but MAG a little later. I liked the first ME and played it alot when it first came out. MAG cheered me up after hating SOCOM so much, but I don't mind waiting for Bad Company 2 to play a war game. It depends on how many people on my friends list are playing MAG whether I get it or not.

WildArmed5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

I'mma go with ME2.
Just coz I hate FPS games.. (except Resistance O_O and bad Company)
The only FPS i'll be buying is bad company 2 (or Resistance 3).

btw, I think MAG beta was great. I've been through all their phases and loved the improvements that came with each phase.
The last phase really impressed me.. But the thing is, I simply can't rely only on MP. I ain't much of a competitive person, I love Co-op and Single campaigns alot more over competitive

mal_tez925206d ago

Didn't love MAG beta

I'll get ME2, and wait for revies for MAG

presto7175206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

Wow very surprising especially as how ME2 is being hyped to death. I'll be picking up MAG seeing as how I really dont like ME or western rpgs in general. It seems I'm in the minority on this one. But no matter how good a game is, there will always be people that don't like it for one reason or the other.

Obama5206d ago

Well wiifit resort sells the most; therefore I will choose that game over these two.

Time_Is_On_My_Side5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

You do know the whole point of the beta is to get the game polished, lol? (hint: it's a developmental stage of a video game)

Plus you don't need an XBOX 360 to play Mass Effect 2; so if you're posting a comment on this site odds are, you own the computer.

Problem solved, better everything on the computer anyways, but I'll be playing both, lol.

duplissi5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

ya i had them both reserved but i think ill just get mass effect 2.
i reserved mag to get the beta which i rarely used, if thats any indication.

edit: lol legendary pelon.... thats quite different mag is unproven and mass effect has already proven to be a great franchise, whereas both god of war and halo are critically acclaimed series.

kneon5206d ago

The 230000 pre-orders for MAG in the US alone disproves your claim.

As for ME2, I'm about half way through ME1 and I still don't get what all the fuss is about, so no ME2 for me until it's in the bargain bin.

TheDeadMetalhead5206d ago

I'm going to get MAG first, simply because I love Multiplayer FPS games. I'm going to get Mass Effect 2 soon, though. D:

pixelsword5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

It's guys like you that make console owners look bad; I'm sure there's a few of you that also are fanboys on both sides, but think of this you must think the the console you own is so bad in your own mind that you have to pull cheap tricks like this on a board chock-full of people who's minds you'll never change.

When I see fanboy stunts like this, that only shows that you subliminally acknowledge that you feel that the console you own is inferior, which justifies your actions in your own mind.

I have no problem both praising both games and chastising the bad parts.

MAG and ME2 art the antithesis of each other:

ME2 will have a strong story but will lack multiplayer as far as I know (trying to avoid stories because I don't want to hear the plot). That's okay: that's like Heavenly Sword, but ME will be more in depth and longer, of course.

MAG has a very strong multiplayer component, but as far as we know, a thin to non-existent storyline.

To be honest, it's all about which you prefer.

If you like good stories, Mass Effect 2 is likely to please.

If you like multiplayer games, MAG is likely to please.

Do not mistake one for the other.

I'm still on the fence myself. I like Mass Effect's story and I want to complete it before Splinter Cell: Conviction comes out. I hate delaying on games with stories because I'll hear a little and know where the story is going easily.

MAG was a surprise, I didn't think I'd like it; especially since I'm so bad at SOCOM and was a lot better at MAG. MAG has not much of a story as far as I know, so it really doesn't matter when I pick it up; but then again, a lot of my SOCOM friends and my clan will be playing MAG, and I like to play with them.

I'll probably get whatever one I think will stay $60 bucks longer first, then get the other one when it drops in price.

nycredude5206d ago

I am getting Mag because I have a bunch of friends who wants to start a clan! AND I'm picking up ME2 because I loved the first!

The best part is I will be getting them Saturday!

MiloGarret5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

HAHA, yes, tough choice indeed. I have both consoles, I have the money to buy both, but I'll only be getting one of them.

Hint: it starts with a Mass Effect, and ends with a 2.

Commander TK5206d ago

since it's exclusive and that I love FPSes (if that's even correct). I don't kow much about Mass Effect 2, but it looks great. Not a big fan of RPGs, but love the cover system. My friend might get it on PC, and I'll probably try it out.

vhero5206d ago

Already got Mass Effect 2 for PC and didnt like MAG Beta so neither i'm saving my money for Star Ocean International and the other RPG's coming out over the next few weeks.

im getting mag ang for people that say the game not polished bull i have never seen a game this scale run this good and look that good really guys 256 players online the maps a huge and on top of the the resolution kills mw2 it it 20 time bigger really if you say other wise you full of it mw2 only native 600p then upscaled the games is trash

Echo3075206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

Wow, that is without a doubt the longest sentence I have ever read...

EDIT - But I agree with what you're saying. It was a beta. Open Betas are just now catching on, and I think a lot of people have clouded views on what actually happens during a beta.

I'm sure at one time Mass Effect 2 was a glitchy pile of a game, but that's what things like betas and testing are for.

I'll be getting MAG. I do have tremendous respect for Bioware and the Mass Effect series, and I respect all the praise they've earned... it's just not my cup of tea.

interrergator5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

im gettin both idc which ones better there both megatons in my opinion im playin Mass effect 2 first then mag

capjacksparrow5206d ago

I have both systems, but I am going to be trading in my 360, so I'm getting MAG. I loved the first Mass Effect, it was my favorite game for the 360. If ME2 doesn't come to the PS3, Oh well. If it does, I'll get it then. I want Heavy Rain and God of War 3 the most, so I'm gonna use my cash from the 360 to get them. MAG is defintiely a fun experience, you just have to get used to it. I had a lot of really good teammates that ended up being my friends, just from the beta. While ME2 is probably going to have better quality, MAG will have more replay value from me, this coming fom someone who loved ME1, and only played it once, same thing will happen second time around.

camachoreloaded88065206d ago

Even though the sequel to one of your favorite games is just around the corner? I guess. You must be strapped for cash, dude. If you really want to give it away, might I suggest selling it online at least. Stores like Gamestop rip you off when it comes to trade ins of any sort.

And a word to the practical: 1 brand new game is equivalent to about 3 months of Gamefly.

spektical5206d ago

MAG defenitly, i can download ME2 later...

Montrealien5206d ago

these kinds of comments should get you banned. But it wont.

Dev8 ing5206d ago

I applaud his honesty not that I condone his actions. If a whole article on being able to download the title early wasn't bannable then I doubt this would be. Besides did you see the download numbers for MW2 there are obviously a lot of people like this guy.

HDgamer5206d ago

lol you know there are two ways to play this illegally and legally. You assume too much because you're not a reasonable person, how do you know he didn't buy it like most people who just love to install and download on their high speed connections?

tripewire5206d ago

could be downloading it on steam right? Isnt that how steam works? Downloads?

Montrealien5206d ago (Edited 5206d ago )

anything is possible, but then again, as HD gamer said, I am not reasonable.

Not my fault I can call him out on what he said, if you guys think that comment was assuming anything else, you are naive.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan19d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
