SixTwoTwo5629d ago

Now if only Sony made this feature a requirement in their games.

vhero5629d ago

less devs would probably make ps3 games?

PirateThom5629d ago

Yeah, features like this require processing power and, if the developers can't fit it in without sacrificing the rest of the game, it's not worth it.

GT5 has it, but it's only for uploading replays, no "on the fly" stuff.

Raoh5629d ago

they should push it more as an option they would like devs to see more...

but sony doesnt promote their own features..

i'd like to see more games use the screen grab feature but they don't either...

talltony5629d ago

you could upload clips straight to youtube like I think they are doing in GT5.

5629d ago
Godmars2905629d ago

Better that they made it a feature built into the console - if they had had the time - than making it mandatory that devs include it.

Christopher5629d ago

I'm on the fence about Sony making things required. One the one hand, it's a nice feature. On the other, there are implications to be considered since it means throwing another item into the mix that will need to work on top of the usual game processing.

Government Cheese5629d ago (Edited 5629d ago )

This is really old news. Was revealed months ago...

@Omar
There are such things as capture cards, and FRAPS you know

GVON5629d ago (Edited 5629d ago )

Old news, this was confirmed at E3.

"Yeah, features like this require processing power"

It's part of the firmware,in the UK you record with Play TV,and play games at the same time.It uses the same system just changes the input source.

Christopher5629d ago (Edited 5629d ago )

Unfortunately, we don't have anything like that in the U.S. I mean, there are options for recording, obviously, but it's all extraneous equipment that has no other use than just recording gameplay and cost $200+ dollars.

Would be neat for Sony to put out a device that you could use to record what you're playing on your PS3 (just not DVD/BD) and then save it to a media file on your PS3. I'd much rather use that sort of device than the software designed option built into the PS3 firmware.

GVON5629d ago

"Unfortunately, we don't have anything like that in the U.S."

True but it was part of firmware 2. something,so any Ps3 with the correct firmware can do it.
Technically it's possible for any game,I know people who regularly record TV and play KZ online, even games stored on HDD work.Sony could add it as a straight XMB function.

The Happy Baby5629d ago

All the sony kids went on and on about how much they didnt care about it.
I think this feature is awesome as hell, and it will definitely persuade me to buy the PS3 Version.

mushroomwig5629d ago

@vhero

Sure, they could do that...and cut their profit margins down by half, all because of a small feature.

D4RkNIKON5629d ago (Edited 5629d ago )

Couldn't they use a cloud instead of the PS3's processing power for something like this? Doesn't Uncharted 2 save replays of all of your games to a cloud server?

If PSN Premium included access to the cloud, allowing you to save PSN games and even save replays of any game you play to the cloud. Sign me up! That is one advantage that Onlive has over consoles today, the ability to save "brag clips" to show off to friends. If PSN could pull that off with every game, win..

DW5629d ago

.. I second that .. it would be great and save on a lot of journalism time to. ;)

A Cupcake for Gabe5629d ago

Yeah, I have for years now, wanted ingame video recording. I know Halo and uncharted 2 have theaters and all, but everyone wants to record that fight against the final boss and post that on youtube/facebook, etc. I think ingame vid recording should come as a feature. even if the ps3/360 itself recorded the image on screen. so you could film, the xmb, dashboard, games, movies(wait there is the piracy...lol), etc you want.

on just cause 2, it looks nice, but I haven't seen much other than messing around with the chute and grabble so far. it looks like a 3rd person farcry. Ii hope it turns out good.

SilentNegotiator5629d ago

I've seen almost nothing but general praise for how this game is looking. But I know you're just feeding your mentally unhealthy obsession with "PSTREE FANBOISSS!!!", even at the expense of lying to yourself.

@1
I could help but grin when I saw Peter next to the word "Sweet"

OpenGL5629d ago

Noby Noby Boy, Ragdoll Kung-Fu, HAWX, and the Pixeljunk games support the in-game recording feature, and Youtube upload. I'm sure there are a few other games that support it, but the list isn't very long. It would be nice to see more developers take advantage of extra features like this.

shadow27975628d ago

This game looks awesome. I look forward to a lot of fun sandboxing, and now I can record it!

But is it 10 minutes or 30 seconds? Is it 10 minutes for HDD and 30 sec for YouTube?

Buttons5628d ago

I'm surprised it wasn't DLC >_<

andron5627d ago

Here is a list over other PS3 games that support video recording, mostly PSN titles:

Pain
Pixeljunk Eden
Pixeljunk Shooter
Hustle Kings
Tom Clancys Hawx
Burn Zombie Burn
Grand turismo 5 (confirmed but not actually released yet
Ragdoll Kung Fu
Pixeljunk Monsters
Super Sonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars
Echochrome(japan only)
WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2010
Just Cause 2
Noby Noby Boy

Superior version on PS3, like always.

Lord_Ranos5629d ago

lol 360 would brake if it had that feature.

-MD-5629d ago

Brake - 1. A device for slowing or stopping motion, as of a vehicle, especially by contact friction.

Break - 1. To cause to separate into pieces suddenly or violently; smash.

AssassinHD5629d ago (Edited 5629d ago )

Murderdolls does not have an intelligent retort so he resorts to correcting grammar. That is a severe breach of social etiquette.

In summation, it seems that Murderdolls not only lacks the ability to provide an intelligent counterpoint, but he was also apparently raised by wolves.

Edit: @below

I am not your buddy, your friend, or even an amicable stranger. I am also not trying very hard at all. You make it all too easy for me.

-MD-5629d ago (Edited 5629d ago )

You're trying way too hard champ.

Edit: You don't encounter females very often do you?

AssassinHD5629d ago

Not that I have to explain myself, but I am married with 2 children. That is something I am sure is difficult for you to understand. Don't worry, you may think girls have kooties right now, but when you hit puberty you will have a whole different outlook.

-MD-5628d ago (Edited 5628d ago )

Oh that's even better, you're one of those guys that couldn't cut it and had to stick to the first female he could get his hands on right?

I know your type =)

Cooties doesn't have a 'k' in it by the way.

Edit: I read your posts out loud to my 26 year old brother because they are quite possibly the most asinine things I've ever read on this site and he thought I was making it up. Your posts are so ridiculous that people don't even believe someone like you exists.

That must make you feel like trash =(

5628d ago
AssassinHD5625d ago (Edited 5625d ago )

That would be your much older 26 year old brother I am sure. I don't believe you know my "type" at all. Not to toot my own horn, but I have my life in order. I very much doubt that you do. I own my home free and clear of a mortgage. I have enough money in my savings account to cover a year of expenses in an emergency. I have medical, dental, and life insurance. My children are healthy. I have no criminal history. I served honorably in the military during war time. I am well respected in my community. I have no debt. I am a male with no commitment issues, and I am successful at balancing my work life, my marriage, and my gaming hobby.

That is my "type".

Edit: Oh I am 29 by the way. (Toot toot)

I wish more games had this

washingmachine5629d ago

great,ps3 should hve ths built in

Christopher5629d ago

Technically it is built in, it's just something that developers have to 'turn on' on their end. It's part of the framework code that Sony gives to developers. Same with in-game music and other features.

mushroomwig5629d ago

He just means that he wished this feature was built into the OS, like in-game XMB is.

DW5629d ago

can you point out where in the SDK that is? Seriously ... I want to know.

OmarJA-N4G5629d ago

Guess the 360 is too weak to handle such feature or there wasn't enough space to fit it on DVD, LMAO! :D

PS3 it only does everything. :)

-MD-5629d ago

Didn't Halo 3 have this feature? Pretty sure it did.

snipermk05629d ago

Halo looked and played like a PSOne game, so they could even fit a DVD movie in there and still have space left. Hence the reason it came with Forge. Pwned much?

The Yakuza Games

Haha, yeah, currently over 100 hours into Yakuza 0. Considering going for 100% and well on the way but may not get there. Cat Fights are a real chore.

blackblades902d ago

I use to be a trophy hunter, was getting around 20 to 30 platinums a year. Had a saying of Play-Beat-Platinum, play and enjoy the game like there wasn't no trophies, beat it and at least get 50% then look at them and see if I'll platinum and platinum it. I think death star was a pain, the servers was ending so i had to rush and play that for awhile none stop. NGs2 was hard because of that online trophy but easy if you had the partner that can do it for you while you grab the enemy attention. Grinding idk, death was grinding last one I had to grind for platinum literally 1 trophy needed was dungeon travler or something vita gave up on it. After that I stop trophy hunting get like a 1 platinum a year or 0.

Knushwood Butt902d ago

Yeah, if I enjoy a game I usually go for the platinum unless there are some unreasonable trophies in there.

For Yakuza 0 I've invested too much time in it to give up just yet and most of the content is good fun, apart from Cat Fighting which is broken and dull after a couple of fights.

DarXyde901d ago

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 was literally the last platinum I got on PS3. After that, I went into PS4 kinda deflated and getting them where it felt appropriate.

I genuinely HATED that platinum, but it was a personal challenge I took upon myself. It was a lot of "get 1,000 kills with [insert weapon]" and it got to be a bit tedious. Master Ninja really pissed me off, but the WORST which you alluded to was that bloody Gold trophy for missions that you needed to do online because the AI was useless and got wrecked in moments. I jumped on the game a bit late so I struggled with finding a partner for at least 1.5 months. After that, I burned out hard with trophy hunting. I still came back for games I really enjoyed (Bloodborne, Dark Souls III, Nier: Automata, and a few others that escape me) and low hanging fruit that was just a bit time consuming and I didn't want to buy new games at the time (Final Fantasy XV). Total, it becomes clear where I taper off since I've only plat'ed 33 games since there inception of trophies which really isn't much.

Screw Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 lol. That game was pure nightmare fuel.

blackblades902d ago

I say never force getting a platinum, its not worth the trouble definitely if it costing you to waste time on chore like grind. Those brainless design trophies.

hotnickles902d ago

Dead rising was the worst one I’ve ever tried. I haven’t tried it with the modern console “rest mode” but the 360 didn’t have that.

Duke19902d ago (Edited 902d ago )

Was GTa4 the on where you had to collect a shit ton of pigeons around the map and there was no help in finding them?

roadkillers901d ago

Yep. I’d say GTASA was more difficult since there were so many collectibles

Profchaos901d ago

The saving grace was that there was only on average 50 collectables with the two exceptions being graffiti and oysters from memory horseshoes and photos were capped at 50 each.

But for me it was all the other grind that was way more painful in SA like the car export lists which even with guides took way longer than collecting stuff

iivGHOST901d ago

There was a guide book that came out with the game that had all the pigeons in it. I actually still have it

Chocoburger902d ago

One of the more recent games I got a Platinum in was Killzone: Mercenary for Vita. What a crap game, that requires so much terrible grinding.

Awful game, awful experience.

outsider1624901d ago

Oh man..wish i could get a vita. I've been trying to get a preowned too(in my country) but no luck.

CantThinkOfAUsername902d ago

I can vouch for Just Cause 2. It was the reason I quit achievement hunting. 86 hours in, the game bugged on me during one of the last side quests (it failed no matter what I did) and my save file got corrupted. Wiped it off my drive and never looked back.

SonyStyled901d ago

I downloaded the ‘complete edition’ or whatever it was called for $2 about 7yrs ago in hopes of trophy hunting it for a platinum. It always sounded fun and I would like to commit time to it but not enough for a platinum trophy
