Heavy Rain: A Gaming Revolution

Critical Gamer Writes: Heavy Rain, the Playstation 3 exclusive coming out February 26, is going to change the way people think about games. That's right. I said it, and I'll say it again: Heavy Rain is going to change how people think about video games (yes, even you) and it may very well alter the medium forever.

What is Heavy Rain, exactly? It's been described as an adventure game, along the lines of titles such as Grim Fandango or Day of the Tentacle. The game's story centres around a serial killer (dubbed the origami killer because duh, he leaves an origami figure with his victims), whom you pursue over the course of the game. Writer/Director David Cage has described the game as a "film noire thriller," while others have simply dubbed it an interactive film.

You said "I hope not" (refering to changing videogames forever I guess) so we assume you are either an xbox fanboy, or retarded

darx3601d ago

Game just sounds boring as hell. You love smellin Sony's taint!

sikbeta3601d ago (Edited 3601d ago )

So True, this Game has a an Amazing MATURE Story that need to be followed, not just point and shoot like nowadays games (FPSz)

Hope everyone support it cuz Gaming need VARIETY over everything else

Blaze9293601d ago

anyone calling this a "revolution" is just showing they did not play Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit and aren't true fans of Quantic Dream. Just riding the Heavy Rain hype train without even knowing the history.

Heavy Rain isn't a "revolution" per se becuase Indigo Prophecy was exactly the same. David Cage is just offering a hella lot more since he has more to work with now.

Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit is the revolution. Shame no one gives credit to that game and Quantic's past work or even knows about it but everyone is just riding this becuase it's exclusive.

sikbeta3601d ago

@Above

The important thing is that QD Games follow the Same Trend, that's why those games are Unique, I call HR a Revolution cuz DC and the whole QD Team keep pushing their Games instead of just make an average Shooter or a kiddie game, not cuz I don't know a Damn and jump into the hype-wagon

djfullshred3601d ago

Obviously darx is one of those gamers that thinks every single game should be made to please his taste. I suppose you buy every single game that is ever made darx, and that is why you do not approve?

@1.10

Read the article, please.

"Context-sensitive controls are nothing new, and even the game’s stylized split-screen approach (which allow the player to see the action from several angles) was used in the studio’s last game, Fahrenheit (or Indigo Prophecy, state-side).

The game borrows stylistically from Quantic Dream's last project, 'Indigo Prophecy.'

But as Cage is quick to point out (...)"

You can see the rest for yourself.

darx3601d ago (Edited 3601d ago )

Your comment makes zero sense. What logic!

From what I read it sounds no different than a point and click type adventure that you played on your Tandy 1000. There is only so many ways you can skin a cat.

Where is the skill in this game?

mfwahwah3601d ago

@1.14

From what you read? Oh come on that's weak. There's game play videos out there and tons of interviews that show that you're wrong. Do you think you know something that the entire gaming industry doesn't? People are aware of the existence of point and click adventure games.

It's like when Halo was released. Or when Golden Eye was released. Yeah, there were FPS games before it, but these were *different.*

rockleex3601d ago

Why does this game need skill?

Its not a competitive experience.

Its a thriller. Its meant to thrill you as you go through the experience.

Do you need skill to go on a thrill ride? (roller coaster)

But in this case, Heavy Rain is an interactive thrill ride.

randomwiz3601d ago (Edited 3601d ago )

let it go, he's too young for the game anyway.

I'm still on the fence of buying this game. My personal taste is a bit more multiplayer oriented but i am getting bored of my taste. Just finished Crack in Time and i loved it because it was a break from games such as modern warfare 2, and other multiplayer games, and brought back memories of last gen.

In this era of multiplayer domination, we need more quality single player games.

That's what I love about Sony, they have a great selection of 1st party devs and variety of games to go with it in each genre

platforming - LBP
adult/storybased - Heavy Rain
3rd person adventure - Uncharted 1 and 2, MGS4
1st person shooter - Killzone 2, Resistance 2
Superhero - Infamous
Slash em up - God of War
Driving sim - GT5
Driving arcade - Motorstorm 1 & 2
family - Modnation, PS eye, Buzz, motion soon

great selection of exclusives covering most genres

lh_swe3601d ago

LBP is more an alround creative physics based game whereas ratchet is platforming perfection.

Chris3993601d ago (Edited 3601d ago )

Like WKC. I hope that it does well enough in the sales department. It's the first RPG this gen with decent online components (on a console). And custom avatars, and paper-dolling (whatever you equip on your characters appears in game). And it's native 1080p to boot.

That game is at the top of my list for February.

More on topic, Heavy Rain should be a thrill. I'm glad that the DLC that they mentioned for it involves something alternate to the story-line. There's a scary trend developing where publishers want us to pay to see the "real" ending. (Resident Evil 5, for example.)

Halo: Crotch, A Gaming Repeat....AAHAHAHAHA

Man I can't wait for this masterpiece!

You BABOONS are all missing out on the best games this gen, and it serves you right for being so STUPID.....AHAHAHAHAHA

scruffy_bear3601d ago

I agree it will be a maserpiece

Mondayding3601d ago

Anybody see Paul Merton in Europe last night? There's your Origami Killer! Microships can cause very nasty paper cuts...

Pidgeridoo3601d ago

I am really looking forward to a mature and adult story!
