Nintendo Shuts Down Zelda Fan Film

Just a couple of weeks ago, a group of Zelda fans released a Zelda fan film, entitled The Hero of Time. Unfortunately, it looks like Nintendo decided that all this free publicity for their series was a bad thing, and ordered the film removed from the internet.

A fan film is basically no different from fan fiction, or fan art - just a way of paying homage to the Zelda series through the medium of an internet video. What reason would Nintendo have to close it down? Will they next shut down other Zelda fan works such as Zelda Reorchestrated?

But no surprise, Nintendo is notorious for doing this kinda of thing.

Not really. They didn't say a word to for the Mother 3 translation and they haven't said anything to Shadows of Lylat (People making the HD Star Fox 64 sequel).

On the other hand, Square-Enix has shut down every Chrono Trigger remake which annoys me greatly.

Mother 3 isn't officially released outside of Japan, and the fan game made by Shadows of Lylat is just that...a fan game.

A Chrono Trigger re-make would obviously get shut down since S-E is still selling the game via PS Greatest Hits (I can still find a brand new copy at my local Fry's)...

EDIT ADDED: Does this closure mean something?? Do I smell a Zelda movie coming along?? ^-^

People can profit from parodies without paying royalties, yet they close down someones fan fiction?! It's not even for profit... doesn't make a lick of sense. How can you sue over fan fiction? Non-profit free fan fiction?

Reminds me of when Bill Cosby's reps shut down House of Cosby - which was pure BS because it was a legitimate parody cartoon.

EDIT: Next thing you know, political cartoons are going to get shut down as well lol

you'd think Nintendo would avoid bad publicity like this with fans, pretty stupid on their part.

Bad publicity with their fans? Hasn't that basically been happening since the Wii came out?

Tsk tsk... that is just wrong. They've made the film prolly for months and this is what they get? Way to go Nintendolt. :/

This is normal for Nintendo.
