British hostage Peter Moore will soon be returning to the UK from Iraq, after spending the last six months of his two-and-a-half year period of captivity with only satellite television, a laptop, and a PlayStation to keep him occupied.
yeah good one kotaku, haha, did you think this would be funny before or after your weekly underage cosplay galleries. jesus know your god damn limits for once, this guy was in solitary confinement for two and a half years and you think making a gaming article is entirely relevant?
Look at the title. It was asking for hits. Like being subjected to a videogame console is horrible after being subjected to torture. Yeah sure. Extremists being Sony Fanboys? Please, this console war is ridiculous. Kotaku go into a sh!tter and die.
the 4 militairy personel protecting him were all executed, and when he had been blind folded b4 his release, he thought he too, would be shot. As Alan Partridge would say " Sub-Human scum"
Couldn't agree more. There isn't a damned thing funny about this scenario, but Kocrapu as usual has to find a way to make some damned amusing article out of it. See, it's sh*t like this that makes me hate Kotaku. Edit: Read the comments....the fans of the site are actually worse than the people writing the 'articles.' More positive proof that one should not underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
To read the comments, I have to visit the site - Something I utterly refuse to do.
Lame as always
@Evo exactly my toughts.. i was gonna post the same a few hours ago when i read the "article".. no wonder theyre fans of kotaku.. this POS site should be banned from N4G.. not even the most hardcore fanboys here are like that..
I wouldn't be able to take it. I would have asked the guard to finish me off. 2 years off Playstation is waaaay too much, very inhumane.
bigpappy Maybe you would prefer two and a half years of torture, c0ckmeat sandwich, and a electric probe up your ass instead?! Seriously this a new low in game writing. From now on I will NEVER call it gaming journalism cause that is a slap in the face of REAL journalism.
The situation he describes is not something to take lightly. Mike Fahey should be ashamed of himself for using this mans situation and the deaths of his bodyguards to get hits for his site, to get a laugh, and as flame bait against Sony and Playstation or even as a console article at all. This mans situation is real life and is much more important than a console or fanboy flame bait.
Worst punishment ever.
100% fair. Normally, I'd be right there with you. The only reason I clicked on the link was to see if at least fans of the site had the decency to have the same issue with this article as we did. They did not.
But I wonder what games the Iraqis let him play?
Modern Warfare 2? lololol Nah, probably just a PS1 right?
I can't think of any Iraqi propaganda games on that system though :P
and best of food of that they have and not bad accommodation for their prisoners because Islam order us to treat the prisoners with all care and guess what Americans do in return?? 1: torture in all the secret or not secret prisons in the world 2: more torture to the point of death 3: more wars and rapes and killings 4: more of everything that is cruel to their prisoners and non prisoners from the Islamic followers!!! I remember Jesus peace be upon him said in the bible that you will know between and false prophet and a true prophet from their fruit(teachings/followers of those teachings)! a bad tree will bring bad fruits and a good tree will bring good fruits!!! and if any body study Islam not from an anti Islam resources, then they will know what a good fruit prophet Mohamed peace be upon him had brought to humanity! unfortunately the media is on all out full war on Islam with the help of their secret intelligent members in al-qaida!! the latest joke is the failed bombing of the American airplane!!! any one who knows of politics will know that the reason for this attack is to justify the killing of innocents and the involvement in Yemen!! if they want terrorist then they are sitting in big palaces for 30+ years and they are often called presidents(am talking about Muslims president/dictators) @UPDATE sorry i read that the shia dogs militia have killed four of his body guards! thats not from the teaching of islam!! any way shia are inventors who invented many bad things which is not from islam and they are dogs to Iran!!
http://www.youtube.com/watc... watch this i owned u noobs
you are fanboy!
Dude, you sounded like a [email protected] in the vid. Lol.
A TV, Games Console and a Laptop is more than enough
Ya dude, this ain't funny. **** off Kotaku.
Hah ha, oh that's so 'funny'!!! And before he was "subjected to Playstation", his captors murdered his four private bodyguards... Hilarious!! Make a joke out of that, scumbags!! Seriously, this is sick.
Kotaku, just go take a leap off a cliff. Your not funny and you need to get a grip. The guy went through hell for years and all you care about is a cheap dig and his and Sony for clicks.
only does everything?
That was the only thing funny connected to this article!
Apparently Islam provents muslims from torturing prisoners of war. Dunno if he counts as one though...
Yes, exactly. Meaning people that do these kinds of things in "the name of Islam" are not following Islamic teachings when they do it. It is important to make that distinction, so that you don't discriminate against the other 99% of Muslims that don't agree with this kind of stuff (torture in general).
you did not only fail in stereotyping the most over stereotyped group of people ever, and very wrongly and rudely, but you tried to make a stupid joke out of an unfortunate situation that is best not joked about... wow, you just sunk as low as kotaku! good job!
Sorry, Black people were stereotyped 400+ years before they were. A slight spike over the last couple of years puts them nowhere near the top! I'm as much against stereotyping as the next guy, but I remember when I couldn't walk into a Seven Eleven without being stereotyped a criminal and cabs use to drive past me late at night. J/K but a little true!
I'm not certain you've taken him the right way there Bjorn. I didn't read it as him making a joke but merely pointing out a discrepency between the guy's treatrment and the supposed teachings of Islam, no? The "one" I think referred to whether this guy was a prisoner of war and not whether a PS represents torture, no? That said, Kotaku need a slap down(figuratively) for this kind of insensitive idiocy, imo. Also us westerners with little understanding of Muslim culture and the different ways the Koran can be interpreted by leaders of different Islamic sects should look at the way oour mainly Christian nations manage to have people reading the bible and coming up with totally different ideas about what it contains-these are books of ancient teachings and if read literally full of contradictions. that's exactly why we have a lot of the trouble with religion AND people getting the wrong idea about theology and what the tenets/boundaries of other religious orders can be. It would serve us well to remember, also, that religious extremists causing havoc and distruction and acts of terror don't need to be Islamic by any means and every religion has had it's zealots following hard line expansionist policies before-and with similarly nasty results to what we've seen recently and with what happened to this guy and his poor associates. Maybe, if we all tried to understand positions that at first look completely indefensible to us we might all be one step closer to avoiding things like what has happened resulting in 9/11 and the subsequent "war on terror". Kill the ignorance on both sides and the arrogance will follow and maybe even the uncaring idiocy displayed by Kotaku here.
@bjornbear: I couldn't understand what you were implying until I read mastiffchild's first sentences. You completetly misunderstood what I said. I WAS NOT making a joke. I was just stating what that religion is teaching. I, personally, do not like to follow any stereotypes and I make my own opinions and decisions. A message to anyone reading this comment: Do not just blindly follow what the media is portraying about anyone. The best way to learn about any religion is to ask the people following it or travel to other countries to learn more. Not just listening to news presenters.
wow man well said. being a muslim myself, whenever someone stereotypes me or any other muslim i just usually shrug it off. because in that one sentence they have told me a lot about themself. If they don't have the decency as to realise that one killer does not equal a whole religion then i shouldn't waste my breath on him. I mean a random person can kill and blame any religion. and idiots will then jump on the wagon and retaliate against that religion even though it has nothing to do with them. EDITT: goddammit it wasn't meant to be as a reply. but i was saying in general
I didn't read his comment as stereotyping.
Guys, don't blame Islam for this. It's like using the KKK to represent Christianity. Plus the torturers probably has friends/family killed due to the invasion so you have to remember just how angry they will be towards the west.
Kotaku dresses this story up as though the major ordeal for the guy was the Playstation and not the incarceration. Stupid.
As I read the headline and the source link... I slowly back away with a "not thnx". One step further from Kotaku..
prove my point racist xbots haha racist kids aw i offended u biatch
could have bin worse he might have had a xbox 360
"A third part of me would like to point out that he received access to a PlayStation, and not an Xbox 360 or Wii. I wouldn't call the Islamic Shia Resistance Sony fanboys, mainly because my name is on this post. Those of you hiding behind screen names in the comments section are free to savor the sweet release of anonymity." Pathetic... does this guy not have any journalistic integrity? just pathetic...
They're just jealous 'cos even PoW's can afford Playstations.
That just described my life.
I'm guessing this was a Playstation one or two,as if they had brought him a PS3 he would most likely have converted it into a suit A'la Iron Man and stomped everybody.
lmao that actually made me laugh...and now thinking of someone dressed up as iron man but with ps3 parts. awesome!
You are awesome. I wish I had come up with that one. I'm glad someone could see the sliver of humor here. I mean, I realize that this a sensitive issue, and I sympathize, but I find the headline more cute than controversial. Maybe it's just too soon, but it's valid to point out that the last thing you expect to hear when you're told that someone was held captive by islamic terrorists is that they were able to play Playstation. It just seems ironic that they would be so accommodating, especially after they slaughtered his companions and in the midst of constant threats to his life. I wanna know whether the terrorists were playing with him. I mean, how can they assail western values when playing video games, which in a way epitomize indulgence and consumerism. Honestly, it was probably an attempt on their part to cultivate stockholm syndrome, very intriguing. Another thing about the headline, it's not meant to suggest that Playstation is torture, it's meant to exaggerate the irony of the fact that whereas you might expect him to be made subject to torture, instead he was given something fun to play with.
He was treated "well" (given access to the Playstation etc.) just a few months before he was released. Before that, he was treated VERY badly (he was held for two and a half years). I suspect the scum who did this realised they were going to release him (maybe some deal was going on the background) and they wanted 'good press'. Nice of Kotaku to give them that 'good press' by making a joke of this and ignoring the murders this group committed.
@red I can understand if you have a problem with Kotaku, but the article does point out that he was abused for two years before they let up on him. Sure, they're making a joke, but to go from there to implying that they support terrorists is dangerously hyperbolic; you're bordering on mccarthyism there and that's the last thing we need right now. I agree, terrorism is horrible, but so were the holocaust and slavery (I'm gay and black by the way), but every once in a while I hear a good joke and I have a laugh. If you're personal life is wrapped up in it, for someone to make light of these things can really seem like their sticking their thumb in an open wound, but laughter comes from pain; we laugh to over come the pain. I'm sure when he first walked into that room with the TV, Playstation and lap top he probably started cracking up out of joy and relief and the realization of the nigh cosmic irony involved there. And as I pointed out, even this was possibly an attempt on the part of his captors to induce a stockholm syndrome effect, though obviously too little too late. I hope for his sake that he will be able to look back on it and laugh, be happy that he still has his life, and feel like a stronger more resilient person because he did make it through a horrifying experience but can still laugh at some aspects of it. It's the only good thing that could come of the experience. I'd rather that, than that the man feel cursed, crippled and traumatize for the rest of his life, though unfortunately that may be inevitable. All I'm saying to you, though, is lighten up.
They didn't give him a 360 because they knew it will only last for 2 hours. Pretty considerate considering they are terrorists.
so considering your statement, all who is resisting the American occupier forces and who capture some soldiers are terrorist but when America invade the whole countries and kill millions and capture 10's of thousands in their prisons and torture them to death and humiliate them and rape them etc is ok and not terrorist right?? hmmm, I'd say typical from the terrorist BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA. any way its not really in the hands of Obama, all presidents are subjects to the israeli lobby who control the congress which control every damn thing in US&A!!
PS3 proves them otherwise. Little kids running around with ak47's makes more sence now. Fck You Kotaku!
I am betting that he really did not have access to a PS, his is just a way of trying to making Sony look bad by trying to associate it with terrorists (its a typical American stunt to pull and normally is BS) If you are a POW you really get the worst treatment, I 'm pretty sure they don't have human rights for POW's over there, not like in our prison's, were they get all the pleasure's in the world even though they are criminals...
Kotaku: Another organization added to the Enemies of Gaming.
Was living in relative luxury what's he complaining about?
can someone copy and paste this article. I hope thats not against the TOS. But i refuse to click on kotaku and give them ad revenue
I can't imagine the terror the man felt. I'm glad he will be returning home safe. I do think it is kinda funny how Islamic extremists have playstation though. I never would have imagined such a thing. I wonder if they have buddy lists?
That's all they do is post crap after crap, but now they are going this low just to get one day hits? Kotaku needs to quit bull crappin'
People still visit Kotaku for gaming news? After all their screws up? All you see there now is cosplay (with usually girls that are underage, articles about the authors themselves and articles dedicated to PS3 bashing).
I'm just happy that this guy is safe and can go back to his family. This article is just wrong way make a joke out of something like this.
