Eurogamer's Game of the Year 2009

12 months have passed since we crowned LittleBigPlanet our writers' game of 2008, and as your mousewheel has no doubt just informed you, Sony has made it two in a row. Having compiled votes and considered pleas from over a dozen staff and contributors, we can reveal that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is Eurogamer's Game of the Year for 2009.

I'm surprised they gave it GOTY. After all, they're amongst the most bias websites out there. Still, they gave UC2 a 10/10 as well right? It was only obvious which game would win. UC2 really has no competition this year.

Uncharted 2, buying a PS3 at launch was worth it for this game alone. Still though, I wish inFAMOUS won some awards, that game is amazing, my top 3 games this gen are probably Uncharted 2, MGS4 and inFAMOUS. Not sure how I'd order them though.

InFamous, though repetitive, was an INCREDIBLE game and I wish it would get more recognition as such. It's really kid-in-a-candy-store type fun, you can do whatever you want, blowup as much sh!t as you want and there's no slowdown and it all looks beautiful.

It's not just ND that deserves praise (and a raise), but GG as well. Killzone 2 is a masterpiece too.

Uncharted 2 is an unstoppable force that can't be denied. It's winning ALL of the GOTY awards from just about ALL sites and mags. No game has ever won this many GOTY awards. Great job Naughty Dog and Sony. You both deserve it.

Old-fashioned and your example is that the tressure flashes... stuff flashes on MW2 infact I promise you it's be hard pressed to find a game that doesn't draw your attention. Clumsy and shallow combat. What is he smoking.

The gunplay is for lack of a better word PERFECT as is the hand to hand. Having completed Gears 2 and Uncharted 2 the winner in my mind is Uncharted 2 for combat because your enemies go down quickly.

The greatest thing here is Uncharted 2 deserves all the hype it got and now all the awards it's receiving. It truly is the best PS3 game so far and one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time. Thanks Naughty Dog, thanks Sony, we gamers reap the rewards of these companies. Praise where praise is due, always.

UC2 is VERY beautifull but it is just one more average action game that I played 2 or 3 times on my life and I will never play it again.

Instead I played games like Bioshock , Fallout3 , Oblivion, Demon's Souls, Killzone2 and Mario Galaxy more then 5 times each and if I could I would play then again.
These games are in a whole new level above Uncharted2.

I 'm amazed how people in general gets all "wooooahh best game ever created"just because it has beautiful graphics.

Please, don't come tell me that Heavy Rain will be the best game in 2010 just because it is super powerfull on graphics but we know VERY LITTLE of its game play and replay value.

Uncharted 2 was praised for it's masterful acting, and greatly delivered action. It wasn't only how it looked, but the pacing of the action throughout the whole game. Plus, the online play (both co-op and competitive) didn't get all it's praise just cause it looked good. It's actually very deep and fun to play.

Also, heavy rain is definitely not all about graphics though it has amazing graphics as well. Heavy Rain is all about story. The biggest, most interactive story this gen from the looks of it. There are actually tons of previews about it, we all know how it plays. It's not just some system to show off graphics. Heavenly Sword and Lair are the games you're talking about, great graphics, but not too much else.

And last thing, the replay value isn't the only thing that judges how awesome a game is. There's not much point playing killzone 2's story mode over and over again, but it doesn't mean it wasn't awesome while it lasted.

Well deserved. I got a PS3 and UC2 for Christmas and it certainly is a great game. I have small gripes, but nothing that outweighs how great the game is.

Congrats to Sony for a well deserved Game of the Year win from Eurogamer. If Sony can win this award on Eurogamer, UC 2 is clearly a masterpiece that none can deny.
