Ten New IP's of 2010 That Will Melt Your Face

They've already shown a huge (and growing) list of games that may make 2010 the biggest year in gaming. Now, here are Brave New Gamer's top ten new IP's, which may well turn into franchises of their own, of the coming year!

2010 is going to be a great year, especially the first half. Right now I think I'll only be able to afford 1 game in January and the rest are gonna have to wait. After that, I hope I can get Heavy Rain and SCC and then I have no idea. Perhaps there's too many games, but I'm sure we'll manage.

Seriously, go watch those videos that are up on Xbox Live and tell me that Brink doesn't have mind blowing graphics (and a very cool overall look and feel, as well).

Only info I know about it is old, old stuff. I figure if it was vaporware then they'd have announced its cancellation by now. I'm assuming they're working diligently in secret for a big reveal (maybe at E3 with a Q3/4 '10 release?). Author made a good point though: sometimes it's good that we don't know a game inside-and-out before it comes out.

while the creators may let you think its happening in the same world, the games arent official prequels/sequels. they dont even share the same core gameplay. so, each of them is a new IP. what they have in common is the amazing artistic direction.

The Last Guardian IS a new IP.

"Under intellectual property law, owners are granted certain exclusive rights to a variety of intangible assets, such as musical, literary, and artistic works; discoveries and inventions; and words, phrases, symbols, and designs."

TLG doesn't use the same IP as SotC OR ICO. It's a spiritual successor (like Demon's Souls is to King's Field).

Am I the only one who thinks that Heavy Rain aka "The Movie You Control" looks hella boring?

I'm a ps3 fan through and through, but I just don't get it. Didn't MGS4 get criticized for being more of a movie than a game? Isn't this a step in the wrong direction?

If Heavy Rain really is a "movie" you can partially determine with your decisions, I want to pay $20-30, which is what I spend on movies.

Not every game has to cater to every gamer. You think Heavy Rain is boring? GOOD. Someone needs to, and I don't care whether you take it for what it is. Heavy Rain is different. It's a step forward in an OPEN WORLD of possibilities. You can go ANY direction with progress as long as you're doing something different and pouring heart, soul, and effort into it.

You seem quite dense, though, so I don't know if you'll understand the concept of "to each his own."

You choose what happens. Your character lives? Cool, story goes on. You get your character killed? Oh well, story still carries on.

Actually, the PS3 lacks the MOST games if you consider PC/Xbox 360 "semi" exclusives:

Total number of PC/Xbox 360 semi-exclusives (NOT available on PS3) = 6
* Mass Effect 2
* Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction
* Supreme Commander 2
* Metro 2033
* Mechwarrior
* Natural Selection 2

So, if you can own one system or you only have time for one system, go for PC. PC really has the most exclusives... more than either PS3 or Xbox 360. PC has more exclusives than PS3 and Xbox 360 and Wii *COMBINED*.

If you can afford a PC plus one console, then go for PS3. This is the tune most PS3 fanboys are singing, PC + PS3 > PC + Xbox 360. Of course, that's assuming "most" people can afford or have the time for a gaming PC.

However, if you cannot afford a gaming PC, (which MOST people really can't; most people just don't want spend that kind of money or time,) i.e., if you can afford only ONE console, then for Xbox 360. Xbox 360 exclusives + semi-exclusives > PS3 exclusives. That's if you don't have or don't want a gaming PC. That's Microsoft's strategy: target gamers who does not have/want a gaming PC and want only ONE console. In this particular scenario, Xbox 360 > PS3.

And let's be honest here: as much as PS3 fanboys want to believe Gof of War III pwns everything else, the fact is that StarCraft II will be the game of the year if not the decade. StarCraft II is practically the national religion of South Korea. South Korea's GDP is going to take a hit when that game comes out. As far as I know, God of War doesn't have that kind of followings or influence.

Half of the PC games you listed might be rubbish when they're released, same with the PS3 games and the 360 games.

You also forgot White Knight Chronicles for the PS3.

You can't say "360 wins in terms of exclusives because it has more exclusives when combined with the games also being released on PC" and not take into account all the games the PS3 had this year. I'd love to see if any of the games you mentioned manage to get a higher score then Uncharted 2.

Besides Starcraft 2 of course, I wouldn't be surprised at all about that. :P It doesn't matter how much South Korea likes it though, we never know, maybe God of War 3 will receive more favorable ratings.

I said:

(1) If a gamer wants to spend money on only ONE system, then his best choice is the PC. The PC has the biggest exclusive library in 2010, or just the biggest exclusive library -PERIOD-

An exclusive PC gamer has a much, much bigger selection of games available to him than either an exclusive PS3 gamer or an exclusive Xbox 360 gamer.

PCs are always 100-percent backward compatible, so a PC gamer can go all the way back and play some old-fart games all the way from the 1990s, 1980s and even 1970s -- that's A LOT, A LOT of games altogether.

And actually, *every single year* the PC has had MORE exclusives than any single console system (include any PlayStation or Xbox.) My last post already showed that in 2010 the PC will have more exclusives than PS3 and Xbox 360, combined! And the list didn't even include/count most MMOs.

(2) If a gamer has a gaming PC, and he wants to own one ONE console, then his best choice is the PS3.

PC and Xbox 360 have a lot of overlapping titles. A lot of the Xbox 360 titles are also on the PC. So, by owning a gaming PC and a PS3, a gamer can have the larger possible selections of games available to him.

(3) Now, investments in a gaming PC could be pricier and more complex than a console, (although it will pay off in the long run, but most people don't want to cough up too much money upfront.) Not everyone wants to spend too much money on a gaming PC, and not everyone knows (or wants to learn) how to shop for video cards and PC components or how to install them. So, for those people:

If a gamer does not have a gaming PC and does not want to deal with one, and he wants to buy only ONE console, then his best choice is Xbox 360.

By itself, Xbox 360 has fewer "true" exclusives than PS3. However, if we combine "true" exclusives and "semi" exclusives for 360, than 360 has more exclusives than PS3. This is only for people who do not own a gaming PC and want to own only ONE console.

In this scenario, for this kind of gamer, a "semi" exclusive is as good as an exclusive for him. i.e., He is not going to be able to play those semi-exclusive on a PC anyway.

That is why if a gamer does not have a gaming PC and is looking to get just ONE console, Xbox 360 is his best option. Microsoft's current strategy (i.e., having few "true" exclusives but many "semi" exclusives) seems to be targeting this particular segment of gamers.

In conclusion, PS3 is really not the "one console that fits all". Depending on each individual gamer's situation, the best console for him could be either a PS3 or Xbox 360 -- that's assuming he wants to have the biggest possible number of exclusive choices (and therefore game choices) available to him.

If you want to break it up to games only coming out on the one platform as exclusives. But there are literally hundreds of games coming out on the PS3 and 360 that won't see the light of day on the PC.

If a gamer wants access to the widest array of games out there, then the definitive choice is the 360 or the PS3, because only those two platforms will get more than half of the games released this year. You're really misleading people when you talk about just exclusives. The funny thing is that your exclusives list doesn't include all of the exclusives nor the XBLA/PSN games that will come out in the next year.

Also, The Witcher 2 is now PC/360/PS3. They moved from doing a 360/PS3 version of their first game to putting the second on all platforms.

Edit: Essentially, you can add the following list of games to the PS3 or 360 'exclusive' list when trying to compare games that you can only play on the 360 or PS3 in comparison to the PC since these will only be available on those two platforms. And note, this is definitely a very incomplete list and doesn't include any sequential releases (GH, RB, Buzz!, etc.) or XBLA/PSN releases.

I'm really looking forward to AVP. When I first heard about it I thought it was going to be another generic space marine shooter, but when I heard about the different campaigns and play styles for each of the types of characters it really got me interested.
